  1. TeamSimo and I attended an "adopt-a-trail" training session in Santa Teresa Park this morning. I was surprised by how much the park service has to rely on volunteers to maintain the trails. They would be very grateful to see our group take on a trail, and I think this would be a great opportunity for us to show we are responsible users. They provide a trailer with everything we could use, including tools, tecnu, refreshments and some cool swag (I picked up a few things to drop in caches this week, watch for some nice park service logo gear). Adopting a trail would involve a commitment of time that seems pretty easy, maybe no more than a weekday afternoon or weekend morning a month. Work would include clearing encroaching grasses (and PO... clear 100' back if we are inclined!!), to fixing drainage issues on the trails. I have a training manual with their specs, and it doesn't look hard. Quicksilver and Santa Teresa are pretty well covered, but they need help in Calero, Uvas, and in Levin and Grant on the eastside. If anyone is interested in commiting to a few hours of this, let me know offline. I'm thinking of picking a single track trail in Calero since it's reasonably close. They suggest a group of about 10-15 as a good size, any age or skill level.
  2. The adopt-a-trail training at Santa Teresa park will be held near "Robin Hood's Trailhead" ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...decrypt=y&log=) from 9-12 Sat. morning, rain or shine. Team Simo and I will be there, if anyone else wants to show up, go ahead!
  3. Looks like I can make it out to Santa Teresa tomorrow (in the rain ). I emailed Greg to confirm. He said he thinks there are 6-7 people total going. Anyone else here going? (I've also emailed the parks folks asking them about kids at the 4/23 Quicksilver event. Sandi is out of town that day so it's either bring the kids or not go; they'd enjoy it of course.) --Scott of TeamSimo My take on this was that there was something for everyone to do regardless of ability.

  5. Coming from a "jeep rich" area, I still find these hard to locate. They seem to have a higher mortality rate that most TBs. A quick sampling of jeeps that came through this area shows not a one made it out alive... 6. News from the SCC parks people: "I'm sending this info to you two, because you have both expressed interest in our volunteer trail programs. This is a training that you might like to come to and consider having your organization participate in the program. I have attached the necessary forms for you and/or your group to review and submit, if you're interested. You can review our website and pick a park and trail that works best for your group. It's a great way to be involved and get recognition for your group at our trailheads. This is a reminder that Saturday, March 19, from 9am-12noon is our annual Adopt-A-Trail training. We will be meeting at the Archery Range Parking Lot at Santa Teresa Park. Due to short staffing, we are unable to conduct this training very often. So Don't miss it! It is a great oportunity to get more trail training and expertise. This years training, Greg Bringelson, our Trail Crew Lead will be incorporating trail tread maintenance into the training. Please, please, encourage other members of your group to get involved so they can lead work days on their own. It is always good to have more than one liason for each group. The more the merrier! Even if you have been to other trainings, you'll want to come to this one too. We should have great weather and conditions for the day, but it will go rain or shine, so dress appropriatly. The trail we will be working on for the training is the Ohlone trail. Please see the park map on our website (www.parkhere.org) for more directions. We will provide water and snacks, but if you decide to stay longer you might want to bring a lunch. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any other interested people. We would love to get more Adopt-A-Trail groups out there on our trails! So, GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!! To RSVP please contact Greg Bringelson: Trail Crew Lead 629-9347 greg.bringelson@prk.sccgov.org Thank You!
  7. "getting" insane? I think that train pulled out of the station a loooong time ago.
  8. I guess I have a bit of a different attitude than most cachers around here (I had an interesting conversation with WoW about trying to clear out all caches within x radius of home... I have no hope of this, living in San Jose and all!)... But the way I see it is that I just do as many as I can and don't worry about completeness. I'd go crazy if I tried to find ALL of the caches around here. So on the weekends when ND's working, the boys and I go out and try to find the clusters (say, Los Gatos Creek Trail, or a certain park). When ND's off, we head for a part of the Bay Area we haven't cached in before (recent trips include Santa Cruz, Pacifica, Alameda, Fremont, Pleasanton, Livermore) and find a bunch of caches. I figure if I can't hope to find ALL of the caches, I might as well find the bunches that I can. So go to Alum Rock Park. wonder if we should start a self-help group for those of us that just CAN'T STAND to see a local cache remain unfound. (whoops, there goes another one.... gotta go get it!). Unrelated note: Anyone out there headed east out of state sometime soon? I have a TB that is looking to get to all 50 states and it's done with the west coast...
  9. If you have any doubts about how many you could sell, go look at the Alaska coin thread. I'll take 5 Jersey coins, sight unseen.
  10. So if every collector here takes 5, who are we thinking we are going to trade with, eh? Oh what the heck, put me down for 5 and 1 silver (...coins...must have coins....)
  11. Add me to the list for 5 please. Thanks! I look forward to seeing how it turns out! Workerofwood
  12. I'll chime in again... Congrats to the Dark Lord Nazgul! May your zombie hords ever multiply. ...and thanks for thinking of me regarding earthcaches! But I suppose if they don't ever get around to correcting ownership on 100 Million Year Walk I could just log that one...
  13. and while we're at it, congrats to Batecher on 1000 yesterday! What a fine bunch of addicts we are
  14. 4000 caches, found one at a time, and a nice log written for each. A class act!
  15. A note to anyone that has tried "Berryessa Library Park" these last few days. I have DNF'd it twice, and have been writing the owner. She is taking everyone's logs very seriously and really wants to do the right thing on her first hide. She is considering all options on what to do with the cache, and may post more information on the hide to make it easier (she did intend it as a 1/1, not evil). There is an FTF available to anyone that wants to try this one again. Coordinates have been rechecked and she has verified that it is there, even had a non-cacher go find it just to be sure. I know I was looking in nasty places that did not fit the difficulty level. Glad to see a newbie trying that hard and being responsive. I'm sure she'll make it right.
  16. Congratulations Woof! on 2000! Hmmmm.... I better get out and get caching.....
  17. If you are inclined to use eBay, try LOT OF (12) PILL / ID HOLDER KEY RINGS $0.99 GEOCACHING I bought some of these a while back for $5 and you can't beat that for 12 Bison tubes.
  18. ...and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...
  19. Yes, but they will be NEW wow tokens! (do you still have space in your collection?)
  20. I'm looking at 2 dates now: Leave late (after work) Thurs 5th- Return late Sun 8th or Memorial day weekend, leave as early as we can on Friday, return late Mon.
  21. I think everyone is chasing after "Jazz" tokens today, hmmmm... maybe I should take advantage of the distraction and look for yours.... I passed up a $40 REI gift card in a cache out there... might be worth a trip for someone. (kind of like a treasure hunt out there)
  22. Thanks, they gave me the permit via fax (combo was the same as it was when I used this nearly a year ago...)
  23. Anyone out there have the current gate combination for the parking at the top of Monte Bello Rd.? Or know how to get it?
  24. Well, I had a trade arranged for a GA coin, but I can't remember who with... So, I still need one (or 2, or 3), and will trade a wand to anyone interested. I'm also looking for some of the newer personal coins and wooden nickels. I have a new token to offer in trade (see my profile page), and they are trackable.
  25. Do folks discuss this somewhere or only in small groups in a private random locations where notes are passed through secret clandestine methods (caches?) Joe I'm afraid that information is classified. Do you have the proper security clearance?
