  4. Ok, I now released 3 TBs in the wild. First wanted to start just one but then searching my "box of trash and memorys" I found others that wanted to travel, too: The Travelling Forkliftcat (TB29KH3): It was my first idea but second to be released because I first had to make an image of the idea and then buy a keychain with the picture. Little Blue Banana (TB29KGZ) The first one that has actually travelled but for now has not been placed in a new cache, so it still has 0 km. Black Forest Ape (TB29PKQ) I realized I haven't thought about this ape about twenty years or so when I discovered him in my old toy box. So I decided he should see something of the world. The Black Forest in Germany is not big enough for an ape looking for adventures... I hope they will travel and not become MIA too soon

  6. Ok, I'm new and very interested in this TB- and Geocoin-Stuff and I'm sorry for every bug or coin that is MIA. So I looked at your TB, nameless301 and looked at the team you mentioned. I know that Groundspeak is against a Blacklist of geocachers, and I think thy have good reasons, BUT: In this case the team seems to keep every bug, coin wahtsoever they find and therefore ridicule the whole idea of travellers. I don't know why they do it. Could it be they haven't understood the concept? Would it be a solution to nominate a view "TB-Reviewers" or something? My idea is the following and NO BLACKLIST: - you as a TB-owner discover that your bug is for months in the hands of a geocacher who seems to collect TBs instead of letting them travel - you report this fact to the "TB-Reviewer" - the "TB-Reviewer" sends a polite mail asking to please let the poor things go My idea behind that is that for you as a TB-owner it is very hard to stay polite. And: if the cacher who has your TB doesn't speak the same language what sounds polite to you might sound harsh to the keeper. If you have "TB-Reviewers" in every country a native speaker could write the Mail (or have a standard mail he always sends). I don't know if this would work, but for me if it works in one of twenty cases ist would still be great for the Travellers. I think of this in the way some librarys do it by not saying "you haven't returned book xyz, this will cost you..." but saying "please return book xyz because there are about 10 people who are desperately waiting for this book to read". Just my thoughts.
  7. Jep, I know about the knowledgebase, Eartha. The Problem I wanted to put my finger on (maybe I haven't put it in the right words) is the following: if you find your first travel bug it is very likely to first look on the "trackable items" page and the FAQ on Travelbugs for help about how to log one. And there, in the "how to log"-section is the misleading text. Of course you could read further, find the knowledge base and/or use a little common sense. But if the first piece of text you find puts you on the wrong track, it is very likely you mess things up as a newbie. Maybe a little changing in the FAQ-text would help. I hope I can show by example. The original text says: No need - IMHO - to use the word "grab" here and put some people on the wrong track. What about something like: It's not the problem that it isn't properly explained somewhere how to do the right thing, it's the problem that you first stumble over something that could be misleading. Kind of like all the Airport-Icons on Roadsigns in Germany where changed. First the little airplane stood upright on all signs. Psychologists found out that a lot of people read this wrong and stayed straight ahead instead of using the airport exit. Now the airplain shows in the direction of the exit and everything is fine. Does this make any sense? Could be I'm totally wrong, too
  8. I think there is another problem with "grabbing" especially for newbies like me. Please excuse if this was mentioned before. The very own Groundspeak FAQ "How to use a travelbug" the first thing you read is: So for me it first seemed right to chose the "grab" option when loggin. Well, I read a bit in the forums to learn more about travelbugs, so I quickly learned that I have to "retrieve" ist from the cache that it was in. I think maybe a little correction in the FAQ will not solve the whole problem, but a bunch of unwillingly made "grabs". Just my thoughts...
  9. Yes, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! This is even better, because this means that the player can change from Old German (like the term! ) to normal German if he doesn't comprehend a phrase! That's certainly more fun and less "school like" experience! Yes, this is what I thought. People should deal with finding caches, not puzzle over my English! I certainly will ask for reviewing my phrases here before. In fact, this is what the people who did the German translation on the Colorado 300 should have done before releasing it... And if you ever plan a German Version of Whack-A-Lackey: I'm glad to help with translation!
  10. Hey, kvhollis, thank you for the answer. Great to hear someone has thought of a similar thing. I actually thought of setting a variable for the language, yes. But this doesn't solve the problem (if it's a problem) of the cartridge becoming too big because of all those texts, I think?
  11. Not a current project, but I had this thought the other day. On the Players point-of-view I would think it is most confortable if I can download one cartridge and then decide if I want to play in German, English or French. But on the Builder-Side I'm not sure if that's the best possible solution. I fear this would mean that the cartridge itself would become too big because all the dialogues must be trilingual. So it might be better to release seperate cartridges for each language. The big disadvantage of this method is, that you have to download several cartridges if you are not sure which one you need. It might sound rather theoretical, but think of the two following examples: - there are a lot of German idioms that might become extinct if not practiced by younger people. It might be a incentive for them if they could try solve the cartridge in this idiom. But there should be a possibility to solve it in "normal" German, too - same thing, but as a playful way to learn other languages. What do you think?

  13. Okay, I ws almost sure that there is a big BUT on this one You could of course say "Requires Coffeshop POI" like "Requires A... A... Reader". But it will certainly cause problems if someone overlooks this hint. Could you quickly explain how POI IDs differ between devices? Is this something that could be fixed by a cascade of "if...then"s? Or are there too many problems/possibilities?

Had this idea yesterday but didn't find anything useful: Is it somehow possible to make a zone around the next "Point of Interest" of a certain category? - Let's first say you need the "Next-Coffeeshop"(you know, the ones who begin with Star...)-POI to play this "play anywhere"-cartridge - you complete some tasks and then you have to go to the next Coffeeshop to buy virtually a cup of coffee So I would need to write a script that: - finds the next POI of the category "Coffeeshop" - writes its coordinates - creates an zone around it Not really sure if this is possible, but I would find this very exiting... (not mentioning the problem if someone plays this in a country without Coffeeshops )

  17. Ok, maybe I'm a dork but I just don't get it. In my cartridge you are in a zone, where you first must talk to a person before you can see the item you have to take. No problem, works great. But the item is in the same zone, so when the item becomes visible, I can look at it and take it at once. Too easy, as far as I'm concerned. I gave the item coordinates and I want the player to walk at least 10m to its proximity, before he can take it. Sounds like a small problem, but somehow I can't solve it...
