  1. I'm still waiting for them to send my shirt from the last ride that they just so happened to run out of thinking it was the last ride and wanted to make some extra money at the riders expense. Just a coincidence that the 6 other rides I participated in had my shirt ready at the finish.
  2. Dick, John and I may be up for it..if I can get rid of the cold and if we make it home from Fallon in one piece and if John finishes the honeydo list by then. It would be fun to hike with you again. I've hiked that trail before with the SD Hiking Club in the summer with more daylight. I think I am probably "IN" unless I would be slowing down all you younger whippersnappers... BTW, I sent an e-mail to Night Hunter as a heads-up... If Flagman is still "IN" then it looks like it will be 5 of us doing this hike. Auld Pro, myself, Jahoadi and John and Flagman. See you all at the Horsethief Canyon parking area on Japatul Rd at 6:30am. Hope we don't need snowshoes to start the hike. FlagMan is 50/50, so don't wait for me. I'll try to let someone know one way or the other before 6:30 am... Y'all gonna die .... Despite Harmons prediction, Auld Pro, Jahoadi and John, Flagman and myself made it the entire Secret Canyon trail that worked out to just over 16 miles with 3177ft of elevation gain, calculated after Auld Pro downloaded his tracks to Topo. Although we all made it out OK, a bunch of caches we had with us were apparently lost. Stay tuned. Took us 9hrs to finish the hike but then again they kept waiting for me.

I don't know Tom...you seem to be aging quite rapidly lately...it's 55 now isn't it? I've rarely hiked with a group where I wasn't the slowest one, so unless you guys can convince FATTBOY to go along then I will probably be bringing up the rear, AGAIN.
  5. OMG ~ That is so sad and scary! We're curious to find out where exactly it was, hopefully it was out in the backcountry section of Alpine somewhere. Wabbits must be getting scare 'out' there and most cachers let their dogs run on the trails. Keep an eye out! The Splashes I talked to the owner of the dog and he told me it was up off Victoria up the hill north a few miles but that there are houses in the area. The dog was an 85 lb. Pit bull that was attacked when the Cougar jumped out of a tree within 100 feet of a house while his dog played with other dogs. He happened to be the unlucky one. From what he told me, the people in the area are aware of this cougar in the area and it had attacked another dog previously. I hated to hear that his dog was killed but I would be just as sad if they had to kill the mountain lion. It would be nice if it could be trapped and moved to a more remote area.
  6. Auld Pro and I are planning a hike on the Secret Canyon trail on Saturday, December 27th, beginning at the Pine Creek trailhead and hiking to the Horsethief canyon parking area. According to Jerry Schad's "Afoot & Afield" San Diego County, this is a 15.6 mile hike but with only a 1200 ft. elevation gain in this direction. There are not a whole bunch of caches on this trail but there should be more after we do the hike. Our plan is to meet at the Horsethief Canyon parking area at 6:30am, Leaving one vehicle their and then driving up to the Pine Creek Trailhead and beginning the hike. Anyone that is interested is certainly welcome to join us although I personally would prefer folks that have LifeFlight on the speed dial of their phone or could possibly bring along a little wagon if I need assist towards the end of the hike. Hoping to interest a few of you adventurous cachers out there.
  7. A friend of my son was doing some auto repair on someones car in Alpine yesterday, although I don't know the specific area. He had brought along his dog, a pit bull. He left the dog at the house while going to get some parts and when he returned, found out that his dog had been attacked by a mountain lion and was very seriously wounded. A broken back, one of his rear legs dangling and the dogs face tore up very badly. He had to euthanize the dog. For those of you doing any caching in the Alpine area, please keep your dogs leashed and be very aware of your surroundings. If I find out the specific area then I will post more. You won't see this story in the newspaper or on your TV news. I know that pit bulls certainly have a bad reputation but I met this particular dog and it was a loving dog that my grandchild were even allowed to be around.
  8. Congratulations to Tanner_Scout on their 1000th find today. Good Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Great Job on your 3000th find and may you have many more.
  10. Congrats Mike and may you find many, many more. Keep those hides coming also. Can't ever remember not enjoying a T. R. Violin cache. Thanks for those.

  12. I hate it when I have a day of finding 7 caches and DNFing 8. I think we might have another cache thief out there that is stealing caches in the Mt. Laguna area. I found only 2 of 8 in the Dalmation series up there and I don't think the two other cachers I ran into did much better. MMCGR & Minnie and Showstop were out there today and I think they had about the same luck I did.
  13. What's taking you so long? Mine's almost done! ... old man down on my knees scraping the floor to remove drywall mud and texturing. Tomorrow is the first coat of wall paint and ripping redwood for framing the jacuzzi tub. Living room full of stuff ... sinks, faucets, shower control, toilet, and tub with faucets and drain parts. Cabinets and Ceasar-stone vanity and tub tops. Driveway is full of junk. Only finds lately were the beta-test logs on your four puppy caches Jodi. Thanks for that. On the other hand you should be happy about my plight, otherwise I might have caught up with and passed your measily little find count. Hello, You're a cowboy. Square building with half moon cut out on front, a hole inside with a nice little bench to aid with proper direction into said hole. Bathroom complete. You could always try one of the Sandy Creek Cowboy caches that leads you to all the bathroom you will need.
  14. Congratulations you two!!!!!!!! Great job. Now keep that streak going. ......1........0.........0...........0............0 Way to go!!!!! Congratulations!!! Just my own curiosity but which cache was number 10,000 for you two? I certainly enjoyed being along with you guys on about 50 of those finds. Wish I could have joined you for the other 9950!!!!!!!
  15. Congratulations you two!!!!!!!! Great job. Now keep that streak going.
  16. Congratulations Jim and Denise. You are wonderful folks and the geocaching community has certainly been enriched by your presence. May you find another 10,000 before the year is over. O.K., I may be pushing it just abit there. Congrats again and it certainly has been fun knowing you and following your geocaching exploits.
  17. Don't you hate it when you go on a 24 mile bike ride with only two caches that you need during that ride and you end up DNFing both of them. Such is the life of inept cacher. Perhaps I need to change my geocache name to "his ineptness".
  18. Would it be Whining or Venting if I say that I just hate it when someone tries to undermine my Whiners Thread by creating another thread to vent. All in jest of course but I never learned how to make those little smiley faces appear. Hey I did it. No more whining.

  20. Hmm, y'all don't get around much do y'? Could be almost anywhere in National City.
  21. Congratulations everyone! Makes us want to get out and cache!!! Congrats to all on their recent milestones. Keep on caching..............
  22. Wow. This sounds entirely reasonable to me. I wonder why this is so hard for other organizations to grasp. Perhaps this should be forwarded to that Mark Jorgensen fellow at ABDSP so that he may somehow become enlightened by others that are actually friendly and receptive to ideas that are not their own. It's just amazing that places so close can have such different ideas about geocaching. Octillo Wells is the bomb.
  23. Did my mother send this to you ? Why Oh Why can't glorious pictures such as this one be at the top of a page instead of boring things that I actually have to read to enjoy.
  24. I'm all signed up for the bike ride and the bus (6:00 PM return. Is that what you guys got?). I ordered a new passport just because I want to hear the guy say "Your papers please" in a German accent, but that probably won't happen. I even got a new bike...a Gary Fisher hybrid. I'm really looking forward to those homemade fish tacos (I hope they still make those) and cervezas. My new ride: How am I gonna keep up with you on that? Is it new or used? Sure looks new to me. I will sign up today...6pm bus also. Maybe there will be new caches in Ensenada... O.K. it looks like I'll be signing up also so Jodi has at least one person she can beat to the finish line.
