  1. Okay.. Sunday it seems to be!

    -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

    Where: Bear Valley Loop

    When: Sunday, November 19 (Updated)

    Time: ~9:00am - ~2:00pm

    -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

I have been wanting to go down and complete the Big Bear Loop. I see about 30 caches in that area alone. It appears that we can drive 4x4 to all but a few. Chuy mentioned that 4x2 works if you have higher clearance.

I thought it would be good to start at (GCNTZF) "Bear Valley Loop-The Beginning...or The End". If enough people are interested, then we can meet at a carpool somewhere to load up people.

Those that may be able to go:

    - Team Adelos

    - jahoadi and john

    - 3cd's

    - DaMoores

Anyone else is welcomed to join. Now, where to meet for those donuts before heading out?

    TA

I'd certainly be interested in joining this group and although I do have a 2 wheel drive truck, I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to off-road driving but would like to hook up with someone else that enjoys this type of driving and has the appropriate vehicle and nerve.

  2. Just wondered if anyone out there would be interested in wandering around the Sweetwater/San Miguel area tomorrow. Start at Sweetwater Summit day use parking and wander around from there. I only need a few caches out there but there are vast numbers to be had.

  3. I just read this from the one of the Homer caches:

I've been told by the geogods that my Homer caches are commercial solicitation. Whatever. My DH doesn't even work there anymore and I could care less if anyone ever graces the doors of HD. However, I want to be a good geocitizen so I am archiving all of these caches. Hope all the other caches in commercial parking lots etc do the same. Sheesh. So much for good, clean fun.

    -Yeshua Girls

Is this happening because of the name of the cache or it's location?

How long has the "Homer" series been active and now they decide it is a commercial solicitation? There are a truck load of caches out there recommending this eating establishment or that one. Are all these caches going to be gone also. I'll starve to death or have to eat at untested eating places. I think this is probably a little bit of overreactivity.

  4. Below the Sweetwater reservoir there are a few caches, none of which I have. :bad: What is the best approach to start knocking them out? I imagine the best approach is near the Sweetwater park. It seems a long journey from the puzzle valley side. :bad: I will probably start knocking the area out in a couple weeks. I was just curious how tough the area is.. can do it on a bike some parts and hiking others, etc. What parking is best? Is anyone else interest in going with me when I figure out when to go? :)

    TA

wait till BBB, "lostguy", and jahoadi and john are done before going into there. :P

:):) I'll/we'll go with you!!!! You need a MTB..not a beach cruiser like Richard. We can go on foot or bike. I know all the shortcuts. ( just kidding..there are none) Not this weekend though "cause it's the ride with Chuy! and "Lostguy". At night would be fun!!!..it's scary out there though....

    Ps..we'll never be done

I am thinking in 2 weeks or so.. cool.. Probably hiking since I am also bike challenged. :P

There's alot of us out there that are bike challenged but we do it anyways. It's almost as easy walking with a bike uphill because there are level parts and downhill parts that make it all worth it when you get to ride.

  5. Wow! I saw

Tombmaker hit 2200 finds today! He didn't even shout or tell me when he reached this milestone! Way to go!;)

kwver you better get busy to catch up to Tombmaker

Congrats Tombmaker you and kwver are both out of control <_<<_<

    :huh::huh:;)

Yes, they are both out of control. Congrats to Tombmaker. Also a big Congrat to Jahoadi and John on reaching 2000 finds today at GoBolts! Crack!. A milestone reached at Gobolts crack. It couldn't get any better. Glad I was there to witness this historic event.

  6. :)

I'd love too. For a long time I dated a man who he and his family were my geo caching buddies. Now I'm on my own and really enjoy searching out the challenging ones with other people. So If I can get to know some of you all...it could be very nice for me.

    Suzanne

    aka zanners :D

Go to the San Diego Cache Event Thread. There are generally folks getting together every weekend to tackle caches all over the county. A great group of people.

  7. Congrats kwver on 1600 fines, :):D What is it, 10 or 11 months since you started, you're out of control :D:D

Are FINES similar to finds? I don't know of anyone who has been fined 1600 times. Congrats to Kwver. Going to have to hurry if you want 2000 in your first year. Just saw where Miragee has now logged her 2000 find. I think she is at 2008. Congrats to Miragee.

  8. WTF

Funny how California’s best can find things the rest of us think are missing.

    :):oB);):ph34r::o:o:o

    Ok...

I know have proof (from logs...or lack of logs) and eye witnesses...that this group split up and did not find all of the caches they say they found.

    What should be done?

I have decided to become the greatest cacher to ever evolve from the San Diego area. I will no longer be actively looking for caches but if all the San Diego area cachers that happen to find a cache will please sign my name to the log and then email so I will know which caches I have actually found then I am certain I will reach the elite status of over 10,000 finds soon. Thanks for your assistance in helping one of own taking over as the nations top cacher by whatever means necessary.

  9. Congrats to "lostguy" for hitting 700 at tonights event.

It was great to see you all there...

    Congrats to Lostguy B):o:o !

Congrats to Fisnjack for 16 :):)

    Lostguy for 7 :DB)

    HelBob Duo on 11 :o:o

    Travelita on 2 :DB)

    Nscaler on 4 ;)

    Team Adelos on 6 :D:D

    Zeber on 1 B)B)

BZ for Chuy and Gobolts helping me out on a cache today!

:D Yes, congratulations to all, especially the one born in 1951! :D

Congratulations to all. I really don't know anyone that was born in 1951 but if I find that person, I will offer my condolences. That person must be really old.

  10. OK so "beta tester" may not be the best term…I guess I will start using the term “Co-hider”.

However comma...if you are with some one and they hide a cache...you know where they hid it.

Why come back...will you not know the second time????

Or should you never log it in the name of righteousness???

Just my personal preference. I don't begrudge anyone who has other ways of doing things. I generally don't know where the person hid the cache as I don't follow them over the hill, or off the trail into the brush. I know the general area but would need the coords to find it without great luck. The more times I get off the couch and go looking for the caches is time much better spent. I'm listed as a co-hider on one cache but I will not log that one. Another personal preference thing. We all have our little quirks, I just happen to have more than others.

  11. I'm also in San Diego and I wouldn't log a cache as found when I watched the owner place it.

In my previous response on this thread, the only distinction I was trying to make was over the definition of "beta tester". Whether or not one signs the log or not is a separate issue.

If I happened to be there, I would sign the log and claim credit for the find (after the FTF, of couse!) -- but I prefer to step away and then actually find cache.

Folks that I have cached with know that I won't Beta Test a cache if I am with them when they hide it but I will go back at a later date and make the grab, even if it involves a hike or a bike ride. There are no set rules that we all follow it is just what you feel comfortable doing. I have taken credit for two puzzle caches that I would have no idea how to solve but because I was there when others found them I signed the log. Since then I have decided not to log puzzles that I didn't solve. Of course I will take as many hints as folks will give me. There are caches out there for everyone and as long as you feel comfortable with what you are doing then I say fine. Of course those Wisconsin event pocket caches are a whole other story. Everyone take care and find the caches the way you feel comfortable.

  12. TA-DA! Here's something for ya' to shoot at......As of September 6, 2006 I have 215 DNFs. Anybody out there with more?

    Congratulations to me!

    Yo Marty, that's my gal.

I'm proud to say that I was present for many of your most interesting DNF's. Hmm, on second thought maybe I shouldn't admit that. Come to think of it Janie should get a lot of the credit.

It might be informative for some of the local heavy-hitters to post their ratio of DNF's/Finds. Also this made me wonder about the Geocachers that routinely cheat, you know, more than most of us. Do you think that they ever post DNF's?

    Your pal,

    Harmon

While I certainly wouldn't consider myself one of the areas heavy-hitters, I do manage to rack up my fair share of DNF's. 699 finds and 65 DNF's. That is over 9%. Doesn't say much for my geosense does it. Unless I improve at this then I should bury Skimmers total someday. If it wasn't for "phone a friend" then I pretty sure there would be alot more DNF's out there. I just don't happen to have all the phone numbers that some of those unmentioned folks with "!" behind their name. More power to them. They have earned their "reps"

  13. To clarify, Sunday the 27th. 6A at Steele Bridge, (N32 44.060 W116 56.470).

First one for me is Mirror Mirror on the road.... There are several more to the east, including two south from the Otay Mtn Truck Trail-Marron Valley intersection, Gold Silver Cotton Wood, and Stone Ruination #2--Valley of Hogs. Some of you may want to split here if you want to hit those. I too only need the five new ones. I believer there are about 15 caches that can be had.

The road on Otay trail is smooth enough for a low clearance vehicle, but I'll be bringing my lil truck.

I need all the Otay Mt. caches so I will try to get there at the 6am starting time. Redstareg and I can stop at every one while you guys find the ones you need. Steele Bridge at 6am if I can wake up.

  14. I received a Magellan GPS as a gift and also received this carrying case at the same time. Of course the GPS was an Explorist so this "Sportrak" case is pretty useless to me. Free to the first responder and I will pay the shipping. Just trying to get rid of it and help someone who actually has the Magellan Sportrak GPS.

Going to somebody in Canada who e-mailed me this A.M. Now how do I close this or is it necessary?

  15. Congrats to Chuy! for hitting 3 :D:D:D today!!!

    WoooooooHooooooooooo!!

3000 WOW Chuy is the man :D:(:D:D:D

Congratualtions to Chuy! for all the work involved in getting to 3000. I started caching just about one month before you but I'm sure your FTF's will pass my total soon. Congrats to all for their milestones.
  16. I don't know why y'all bother with all the hurrahs for even hundred milestones, but 4000 for Duncan and 5000 for the Splashes, now that is very impressive! Congrats!

4000 for Duncan and 5000 for the Splashes is hard to imagine when my finds are so far from these. My only saving grace is that I already have 60 DNF's and by the time I reach the Splashes 5000 finds I should also have obliterated their paltry 173 DNF's. We all can't find the cache everytime we look for one but it sure would be nice to finally figure out a few more of the sneaky things folks will do to make a cache muggle proof. Congrats to you folks for awesome caching abilities.

  17.

Well, this one finally made me open up a translator and start reading these postings, and the one's on the cache page...

I thought he was saying something about John and Jess...and a sausage! B)

    My bad. <_<

Vraiment pierre angulaire 4, ce n'est pas une saucisse que c'est poulet sauvage ! Ils ont dehors le gettin d'amusement la cachette et je m'assieds ici à la maison.

    ~Jess

Ok, when I translated this, and then ran it back through to see the English re-translation, it didn't come out the way I had intended. However, I was laughing so hard when I read it...I decided to leave it as it was.

    ~Jess

What happened to the San Diego Thread? I looked at this one and figure I must have checked the thread for France instead.

  18. Congrats redstareg on 100 finds :):blink::lol:

    SKILLET

    Congrats redstareg on 1 :blink::ph34r: !!!

Congratulations on your 100th find. I can say that I was there for a couple of them even though you weren't able to grab that elusive FTF that day. Hopefully you have one by now. I didn't get an FTF until my 163rd find. Way too many fast people in San Diego.

My then 9-year old daughter had a blast last year; she's looking forward to it again this year.

It's on Saturday, August 19. The 20-mile route is relatively flat and there are several caches along the way, in Shelter and Harbor Islands.

    Come join us!

    Website here; Register here.

I've already registered Chuy so I will be keeping my eye out for you and your daughter on the tandem this time. Also Rosartio to Ensenada is coming up in Sept. and Chuy has caches placed along the route.

  20. OK guys I just got a line on the smaller of the 2 basic ammo cans. Ok are you ready for the price

$2.50 each as many as you want but you must tell them that Tim From the Geocaching site or Tim from the mercedes place sent you. So go get your ammo cans and hide some caches that have stuff in them! I just picked up ten. You should go get yours now. Please don"t call him and ask a million questions he is giving us a great deal.

    NOW GO HIDE SOME CACHES

Thanks for this info. I went by today and grabbed 10 of them for myself. Apparently this business has two addresses as the one of the building was 4011 Helix and I told the guy I was having trouble finding it. It was then he told me that they have two addresses. Very nice & helpful gentleman. Wish I would have brought my GPS and I could have gotten the coords to this place. Not really positive it was 4011 at my advanced age but it was somewhere in that area. Thanks again.
