  1. My odds are on them playing the game. I bet they will buy the recommended garmin etrex on the site. I t may take them a few weeks to buy it. Then may take them longer to lean how to use it since the garmin etrx *does Not* explain how to puch in co-ord's that you already know. I recommend emailing them and telling them about these forums...if they have questions about how to use thier new GPS...or asking you if they are not sure. You can always post it here if they have a question you can't answer.... Just an idea... Karen
  2. From what I have seen in the forums having an icon will really help your coin sell most wont buy without an icon, like me (I am a icon ho) as they call it, or should I say I am starting to become one How do you know if a coin has it's own icon??? Karen
  3. I like your idea of a feep contest. I've applied for my first jeep. I'll do the contest...then it can travel anywhere. If I don't get one, maybe I'll join your feep contest. What a great attitude! Heck, I wish more of those jeeps were released everywhere! That said, is that picture a geocoin? I'd be interested in seeing a larger picture and knowing what it's called if you don't mind emailng me. Now I'm jealous!!!
  4. Well, hopefully some other people will post there stories but here is another. Last November my boyfriend picked up a geocoin in Utah....the last user took it and never logged it out of Michigan. Grabbed took it from a cache called Crocodile in Utah. When he got home from vacation...he couldn't find it. He tore apart his geocaching stuff...then his suitcase. nada. Finally...he told me about it. I tore apart his geocaching bag..(I wasn't on the trip with him..and he told me later...after he searched and searched). I couldn't find it. Finally, the coin owner contacted him...and he apoligized..told her he lost it...and would be happy to replace it with a geocoin he hadn't activated yet. I know..little consolation..but a nice gester.. Anyway..she didn't respond..might have even thought he stole it...since coins get stolen alot. Well, last night..he took some pants out of his closet...he has't worn in a long time..(He has alot of clothes). and there it was!!! Safely in a closed pocket. I grabbed it....and it is starting it's journy again... I also logged it into the Utah cache..since it was never logged there..so it can get it's miles... So they can ressurect...take hope. Want to check it out...the coins name is Geopuppies..it is a Michigan Geocoin.. Just a note...we had nothing to do with the other TB being lost..just found.. So anyway...here is hope... hope you all post them...wether you just found them..or lost and found them
  5. I don't have any link, but you can buy sheets of laminate most places where you buy school supplies. They sell one sheet or more...just cut to the size you want...and save the rest for later use. (they come spiral paper sized). Now, a question for you...did you printout the Tag sheet to credit card size? Or make your own tag. i fyou printout the info on the webpage at a smaller size, can you tell me how to do that?
  6. I don't have the answer, but know what you mean. You can get the TB prinout on the webpage, just like you can get the geocaching rules. I think what you want to know is how to shrink them down to that size, right? Cause I was wondering how to do that, and how to print the *geocache* info smaller for micro caches. Of coarse, once someone kindly tells us how to shrink down that printout page...I know I can go to the school section of Wlagreen's to get the laminate, and do that myself... so, anyone know how to shrink the prinout information??
  7. After browsing the lost travel bug site, then reading a hope post about one found after missing awhile, I thought, this would be a great place to give people hope. I have three travel bugs, and am lucky so far. But not long ago, I went to a cache and found a TB that had been missing for a year and a half! It was from England, was last placed 1/18/04, and I went to a cache on 1/28/06, and found a TB. I was *floored* when I saw the last post. The bug I found was called Orange Scruffie....in case you want to check it out. I beleive others have these stories, and please only post when true. I know some people collect bugs, some lose bugs (some of which later turn up) and some may be in the hands of owners who (sadly) die. If a bug of mine was lost by someone, I would like to know this....it means it can turn up, in their hands, and maybe in the forest if it was dropped. There is not much you can do about bugs stolen. If a bug is lost or missing in other ways though ,(muggled cache, deceased owner...) well, you never know. It is unlikely, but has a possibilty of turning up. So here is a hope topic....please post about bugs that have been lost...then found. Listing how long lost...and if you know the circumstances, would be cool too. A found bug listing the name of the bug would be great so people could look up the log and check out the story. Anyway, just an idea. Let me know what you think, or just post a TBF (travel bug found) miracle story!!
  8. i guess I was lurking... I'm from Chicago. I was looking for post on APE caches...do you know what those are? I was trying to find the differnt types of caches on the geocaching.com site and couldn't find them. Or the earthcaches...though I did one so I know what they are... Karen
  9. also...I once posted on a TB cache site...to please move my TB along...wether it met with the cache owner's rules or not. I suppose can always list instructions on the TB's website..about what to do. Most cache owner's though (not all) are cool about it. I had a TB released and stuck awhile..then release...and moved the wrong way... it then got grabbed for a future TB hotel...after a few weeks..I contacted the *future* cache owner..and He was very nice....and took my TB to a caching event..which got it to someone coming to my state. And all I did was ask when his cache was going to be placed!!
  10. The wishes of the TB owner definitely take priority over the wishes of the TB hotel....a good cache owner should recognize this. I of coarse mention the fact that I'm following the TB owner's wishes...if I'm contradicting the cache owner's..... Otherwise..I follow the cache owner's wishes..

    Travel Bug

I have a travel bug that was picked up....and have nicely emailed the holder 4 times..asking them to release it. While it hasn't been held super long...a month and a half......I've asked for a release. The holder has cached since...checked the stats...so she isn't in a hospital or coma or anyhting.. yet she has never answered me..either to ask me to wait..to say it was lost....or anything. She is also holding another TB even longer..and hasn't responded to them. Is there an etiquitte on contacting them..also..seen the cache logs she's signed..and the people she's caching with... Would it be rude to niccely explain to them and ask them to run interferance? I've been grateful and nice....can't understand why she's playing Helen Keller on this.. thanks! Karen
  12. I would like to thank you all for your replies. I have printed them out, and hopefully will be able to try on New Year's day. Thank you Team Quill..... Tiwica, thank you. I actually had those pages highlighted. However, I went back at your suggestion and noticed that I seemed to have missed page 21, which talke about position co-ordinates and edit location! Bingo! Mike, I know you are right about needing to just play with my GPS more. Your are definitely right. Absolutely. You are right in so many ways. One hundred percent right. However, the problem is...since I bought my GPS a few days before Christmas, I seemed to have developed a slight geocaching addiction. I can't seem to stay away. Caches are everywhere! They are calling to me...Karen, I'm here, Karen. Maybe if the cold weather comes...we are having an unseasonably warm winter in Chicago. Of coarse, the rain and mud isn't stopping me....(the poor dogs who go with me have been getting baths every night). Hi, my name is Karen and I'm a cachaholic. Is there a support group out there for this, aheem, slight problem I am having? And if I learn to use my GPS properly, will it only get worse? Have a great New Year's, all!
  13. I'm new to geocashing. I read the manual but am still a little confused. I finally went caching with my GPS, and the only way I found to use it for finding a cache was to keep setting my waypoint to see where I was at. I've read on some of the cachers post where it sounds like they can enter the co-ordinates and then an arrow keeps pointing them towards it. Are they somehow using the map feature? When I tried to use the projecting the waypoint feature, I was expecting to enter co-ordinates and it was asking for mileage. I'm very confused! Can anyone help? or should I just keep setting my waypoint. Seems like there must be a better way! Thanks in advance!
