  1. Yep, Skippermark. That's exactly what I did. Thanks for your response. BrrrMo
  2. From a Newbie. Not the same but similar. Found a ammo box cache that had been in a controlled leaf burn in a state park, the forest floor was still smoldering in places. Posted a Find log and explained in an Email to the CO that his cache was melted. No response. A couple of days later I read how to use notes on a cache log, so I posted a note as to what had happened. Boy, when the note posted to the Log I got an immediate response, via Email, to remove the Note post and the CO sounded offended, so I removed the Note post and a couple of days later my original Find post was deleted. Don't know why, I was just trying to be helpful, and thought it made an interesting Log post.
  3. It seems to me that no matter what the Forum topic is about after the first 10 or 15 replies the reply content goes downhill. Anyone else notice this? BrrrMo
  4. Finding my first one after just starting in this was very educational. Enjoyed it. BrrrMo
  5. It may not be fancy, but the best hiking staff I have ever had was bamboo. I acquired it in 1978 and it has just about finished being useful. Light, strong, and works. Now the story behind this piece of bamboo: I was driving west on Interstate 10 in Florida, had just read The Complete Walker III, by Colin Fletcher, and he highly recommends bamboo. Saw a bamboo patch over a chain link fence next to the highway, Aha I say I can get me a hiking stick. Jumped over the fence with my machete and cut several to be sure I had the right size. Jumped back over the fence to go to my vehicle and all Heck broke loose. I had stumbled on to a fire ant nest and they were eating me up. So there I stood next to I-10 with my pants down trying to get rid of the fire ants. (true story) BrrrMo
  6. Are there any letter/request templates available that can be used when asking permission to hide a cache, and should you have written permission to hide? BrrrMo
  7. All the advice so far is great. I have the same unit as you and I use the electronic compass as much as the map page ( it is bigger and easier for my old eye's to use when walking ). The other suggestion from me would be to visit several on line GeoCacheing shops to see how many types of cache containers there are. Often the type area your GPSr takes you to will give you some idea what type container you are looking for. GeoCahing is a lot like metal detecting, the more you use your equipment the easier it is to understand what it is telling you. Oh ya, one other thing, be sure and have the hints and cache description with you. I had to call my brother in Texas ( I am in Missouri ) from the middle of the woods to get info for me. I had the hints etc. but had not downloaded the coord's. Duh BrrrMo
  8. I love my 60CSx. Read that a electronic compass, which you have on your unit, is very handy and I use mine as much as the map page. Also one thing I didn't do and should have when I started was to go to some on-line GC shops and look at all the different type cache containers there are. BrrrMo
  9. I don't think 14' is that bad, but I only have 51 finds. JMO One of the best pieces of advice I have had was get close then look for it. A little experience and people will know what to look for. BrrrMo
  10. My thought exactly. Friends, PMs, ad free usage....there are many extras you get for upgrading! Ok! Ok! I get the hint. Had not thought of it as supporting Groundspeak. Thanks for sitting me straight, I will become a Premium Member P.D.Q. and I have compiled a list of everyone who responded to my post so I will probably be bugging you about how to use some of the features. Thanks again. 1 member of the (The Invincible Us)
  11. Have been Geocaching since August 2008 and have found several Cache's. What advantage would I have if I were a Premium member? Am using a Garmin 60CSx.
  12. A Geocoin to be placed, I don't know where yet.
  13. The page button toggles on direction, the esc button the other direction. (Think of it as forward and reverse) Both buttons would get you to the screen you want. In time you will learn which doesn't faster from the screen you are on. Thanks Renegade.
  14. OH COME ON BRRRMO - HOW COULD YOU RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD THREAD LIKE THIS WITH YOUR DOOM AND GLOOM! Wow, I see what you mean ...sorry, couldn't resist the joke....... *slaps self on wrist* Very Good "Kraushad" That's the kind of flame that keeps the home fires burning. Loved it. ;>} (edited, family friendly please)
  15. Since all knowledge is based on prior knowledge, it's quite possible that the OP knows not what s/he knows not. Therefore the OP cannot ask the specific question(s) you seek. Lost my login capability to this site, have it fixed and will post specific questions in a day or two. Lets try this ? Can you toggle between the go to cache map and the compass without having to Go to Find, highlight cache, hit enter, hit enter again to get to the Cache map? Many more but will start with a simple one.
  16. That no matter your good intentions when starting a thread there is "ALWAYS" someone waiting to flame you.
  17. Cache Maggots are people who take TB's and GeoCoins and keep them. The song refers to the old movie Hang'em High I know what a cache maggot is...I was referring to your Willie Nelson song reference... Here is the URL for the words on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etfikaqROBc...feature=related and just search for Willie or Toby Keith to hear it.

  19. Is the proper treatment for this type of activity, if you catch one, the same as is promoted in Willy Nelson's song "Whiskey For My Men and Beer For My Horses"? While I am posting does anyone have the URL for Speed Freaks hints solving program?
  20. Been at this since August and it never occured to me that to log a DNF was a bad thing. I guess the one's who don't log DNF's also have Vanity plates on there vehicle. Put me in the "Write Note" crowd. For me, I won't log a DNF on a cache I didn't hunt for. I feel the hunt involves physically looking for the cache, not just meandering around the general area, then leaving because there are too many muggles. It just doesn't feel like I've actually looked for anything. That doesn't mean a DNF is wrong, or even inappropriate, if that's the log type you pick, it just doesn't work for me. On the other hand, if I actually do look, even a little bit, it gets a DNF every time. (edit to add: unless I find it!) Talking about multiple NMs reminded me that, when I revisited this cache, (helping some buddies with a numbers run), I noticed it had 7 NMs, with no action by the owner. This one had 5 NMs. Same owner, same inaction. That was the first time in almost 4 years of caching that I utilized the dreaded SBA log type.
  21. I understand that GeoCoins are placed in caches and are supposed to move around the world, so how can you collect them if it means taking them out of circulation? It appears they are not cheap so why would anyone want to start one only to have it taken? Is this a new problem or has it existed all along? TIA "The Invincible Us" AKA BrrrMO
  22. Found first one yesterday. (9th Cache) Was sitting there on the pole wandering where is this thing? Another couple pulled up after sitting there for awhile they got out and said "find it yet"? You can't take anything for credit in this game. "The Invincible Ones"

  24. I received a Garmin GPSMAP60CSx in August. Have managed the basics from the owners manual but there are so many features not covered in the manual. When I called Garmin they said I have to buy a DVD for more detailed info. Is there any Web sites that I can go to?
