As a New Geocacher - What Frustrates You The Most?
BrrrMo replied to Headhardhat's topic in How do I...?
Bushwack in, trail walk out. It's the geocacher's way of life. So True!! -
Read the logs!! That sounded really bad. Since I don't know how to delete my reply, I will just say, it wasn't meant to sound that harsh.

ZSandmann; Not flaming, but how in the world can you find 32 in one day? BrrrMo One after the next Seriously though, it's not difficult if you live near any larger metropolitan area. Baton Rouge, LA in my case. There are hundreds of caches there. I have a PQ of 500 unfound caches loaded in my GPS, and the full cache pages stored in my iPod. I load them into my Garmin Nuvi to navigate there and off we go. Thats the way I find them to, hadn't thought about it that way. If I search by Zip Code for my area there are only 55 total in approx. a 25 mile circle from my location.

A Rating system is very subjective. A couple of my thoughts are that a Cache rated 5 Stars today may be a 2 Star tomorrow because some Lazy Cacher did not trade even or up, and the quality of the hide can be trashed by it not being put back right. Jusy a couple of my thoughts why I don't promote a Rating system. BrrrMo

While we are at it, how about a rating system for GeoCachers and Forum posters. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. 1 Lazy 7 Dedicated 2 Whiner 9 Advocate 10 Just for fun 5 Numbers

An LPC is great when it is your first LPC and it's ok when your traveling and need a quick fix, but... BUT... But do you need a quick fix every tenth of a mile for the next 5 miles when there perfectly good techniques and hiding places that don't involve up skirting or just reaching out the car door? ~~~edit to add~~~ I would hardly call the air enveloping you car wile reaching out the door fresh. Boy; didn't take long for this thread's posters to go into attack mode. -
Check out Earth Caches, they are somewhat like what you are asking.

How do I know if my GPS is giving accurate coordinates?
BrrrMo replied to jdlintner's topic in How do I...?
Try going to Google Earth, locate your house and it will show you the Coords. Go outside and see what your unit says, as to were it thinks it is. Do they match or closer than 1 mile? -
Thanks Webscouter- I think that trading up is the way to go and would provide a great lesson to my daughter. I'm just hoping that there are enough accessible caches around me to make this a weekly (or perhaps monthly) experience. Thanks- sb I just did a search on Atlanta and there are over 200 Caches that come up. There must be a least 50 that would be kid friendly.

Are you talking about a list in your Web browser?
-
Not familier with any unit other than the Garmin 60CSx but I am sold on the electronic compass for GeoCaching because: It is easier to see than the map when moving, especially for my old eyes and have found that I use it almost always to navigate to a Cache.
-
A whistle for signalling, or an inexpensive compass, in case someone forgot extra batteries. My daughter placed an approx. 2 X 2.5 X 3/8" piece of finely sanded cedar in one Cache we found. Since then we have seen it in four other Caches. I also place various items I have found metal detecting, Black powder bullets, interesting metal pieces of harness. The list is never ending. Many times I leave something but take nothing.

If this needs to be in a different Forum please move. I heve never been REALLY lost because most of my Caching is done in areas where I almost always know if I walk far enough in a certain direction I will come to road "such-an-such" In addition what do you carry to help people find you? A cell phone, but if you are lost how can you tell anyone where you are. I carry a whistle as a signalling device, 3 blast repeated 3 times means HELP! 3 toots on a horn, etc.

I believe there is one in Missouri that requires a boat to get to, then climb a rock chimney, and then rappel down to a cave entrance to get to the Cache. I think I found it by doing a search on unfound caches?? -

How do you get the backgrounds which creates a frame around a Cache listing page? TIA and Poo to any Flamers!
