  1. I've been watching for a while, never seen coords before. Just in case they take the coords off the site this weekend: 39 08.060 N 77 19.270 W

  4. Do I? You bet I do! in South Florida on August 6, 2005. All cachers are welcome!
  5. I'm a big supporter of the Ignore feature being added as well. There a couple of dog park caches and scuba caches that physically near me, but I'm just not interested in attempting them. Being able to still watch the ones that interest me and ignore the ones that I'm never going to attempt is the perfect solution in my opinion. Thanks for giving it thought!
  6. Check out CNN next weekend for a segment about the Geocaching. It will be on Saturday at 3pm, and again Sunday at 5pm. I think the program is called next@cnn. Don't know how long or how in depth the segment will go, but the CNN team followed Rixart and EmilyMaus around for four hours one morning. The segment was filmed at end of July 2004 in Atlanta, GA.
  7. Glad to hear from both Doc and Goofy. Get the word out that we will get you anything you need. My church is sending over work crew twice a week to help with tree removal, clean up of homes and to deliver baby supplies. The elementary kids at my church are collected new school supplies and stuffed animals for the children on the west coast. Anything at all - we are only a mouse click or phone call away! You can get my cell on the Florida Caching site.
  8. Us in Florida have been discussing it on Florida Caching.com until I'm assuming massive power losses disabled the site. We are keeping up to date on NEFGA forums now. We have heard from some of our cachers who lived in the path of the storm and they are alive. No other details right now. I know my family in Orlando are alive - but they have some damage to the house - deck, fence, garage door are gone. In Miami, Broward and Ft. Lauderdale we just had a few wind gusts - nothing to even bat an eye at. For those of us who survived the worst of Andrew (like me) - this is very painful to watch because we know that the worst part is coming up after the storm. Thanks for being concerned. If you feel motivated - please contact your local Red Cross, FEMA or other national charity to find out what you can do. Keep all the victims in your prayers. Especially the children who have just lost their security.
  9. I have definately emailed the individuals first. A few recognized that their behavior was inappropriate and corrected the errors. But you always have the bad apples who insist that their warped view of humor - which sane people recognize as disgusting filth - is the ONLY way to go. We have a great caching community in South Florida. I want it to stay that way and make sure everyone is aware of base decorum.
  10. There has been a rash of unpleasantness in the South Florida Geocaching community lately. I believe most of it has been from people who haven't stopped to consider if the action they are taking is the best and most polite one. However there are those cachers who seem bent on everything going their way. Let's review some standard caching politeness guidelines that maybe you haven't realized before. 1. Always send an email if you have a questions about a cache, travel bug or contents BEFORE posting a note to the site. 2. If after sending an email you haven't been answered and you decide to post a note to the cache page - make sure you post a NOTE - not a FIND or DID NOT FIND. 3. When posting a NOTE - make sure you are using language and humor appropriate for all cachers - including our younger children. If you aren't sure if it is appropriate - you probably shouldn't be posting it. When it doubt, remember that this is a family sport and YOU are NOT in charge. Don't insist that others play by your rules, don't name call, don't jump to incorrect assumptions and don't malign anyone's reputation or cache. Thanks for the attention. GeoBear18
  11. Actually the woman was murdered. The cachers who found her were a father and son - the boy is only 12 years old. It's been pretty rough. We've been working with the police and they seem pretty grateful for the geocaching communities help. The interest and discussion is cool - just keep in mind that a woman is dead, a man is in jail and a father and son have a lot to deal with. Be sensitive.
  12. Dudeface and I actually found that cache that weekend. We aren't sure when the body was found - but it is pretty creepy. The Florida people are talking about it here at the Floridacaching.com website.
  13. You probably want to post this at the Florida State website: FloridaCaching.com. You'll find lots of friendly people there ready and willing to help out.
  14. Good call on catching the date! I'm looking at this going, "What????". Tres funny!
  15. Try posting this at the Florida Caching site: FloridaCaching.com You'll notice I already cross posted your request there for you.
  16. You might consider posting this on the regional forums in the SouthEast. I also cross posted it on the Florida State Caching site: FloridaCaching.com You can read it here: Your request....
  17. Welcome to the fun RadRacer. My best advice for you would be to host an event. It doesn't have to be extravagant - just a simple Meet and Greet. Pick a local restaurant, post the info on Geocaching and watch them come. You could also go through the caches that are in your area and email the people who hid them and the people who found them and invite them to your event. Get people together, maybe go out and find a cache or two, plant the bug in their ears that you want more caches to hunt for. Also - place a few caches of your own! Others in your area might feel just like you - there is nothing to hunt for. Give them something! Encourage them to do the same. Good luck - see you at FloridaCaching.com
  18. I left a message for the site admin on the Florida Caching site. I'll keep you updated with anything I find out.
  19. Some truly dedicated people have developed a website for the whole state of Florida. Check it out! FloridaCaching.com We can use your assistance with logo, graphics and all kinds of good stuff. See ya there!
  20. I'm referring to one of the reasons Jeremy gave about Florida residents not being eligible: I realize that's only one reason and there are probably many other good reason, but I think that it would stink if the reason Florida residents are eliminated is because Jeep did not want to run ads in Florida.
  21. I would be willing to buy a publication that had the rules printed in it if it meant that I could be elgible to win as a Florida resident. I'm willing to be that the majority of Florida cachers feel the same way. Can anything be done about this? Contact your congressman about changing the laws that are keeping you from being eligible for the contest Great suggestion that I might actually do. But that won't change this contest. If one of the main obstacles is having to run a printed ad - then what I'm saying is that shouldn't be an obstacle. The caching community will respond favorable to it and what better way to get outsiders into GeoCaching? Muggles are not going to wander into the forums and begin caching. But if they see an ad - they might just check it out. I don't want to be left out of the fun....

  23. I actually print out Travel Bug description and goal sheets and then laminate them and attach them to all the travel bugs in need that come through my hands. Just my contribution to the fun
  24. You might try posting this on the Florida sites: Florida Caching: Forums Or North East Florida GeoCaching Association Forums
  25. and it is a good idea - one that deserves discussion and attention. You might also consider posting it on the Southeast forum at NEFGA. That may get hit more by the locals than this board.
