  1. messi#10 you could try to get your travel bug to Dutchlandian, or so somebody else who could give it to her, while she is in town in August and she could bring it back to the Netherlands with her. There are at least two events that are being planned for her trip (GC577KZ and GC58NJF) where that you could come to or find somebody who caches closer to you who might be going and who could deliver it for you, and I know she is attending West Bend so if you are going there you could plan to meet up with her somewhere. There might be somebody else who could help you but this is at least one option.
  2. I'm not sure about any large geoart in Southern IL but there is some geoart in IL already. The two largest ones are the skull put out by Skuzzy13 - Skuzinomics 101:The Dead Man's Tale Entry 1, the hummingbird by Greenback - GMT #001 - ThrillerManInTheMirrorBeatItBillieJean, and SALZ put out by salz69 and continued with a 10 by michigan_chris - The "Salz 69": #1/Salz69's "10"000th #1. Those are the largest ones that immediately came to mind. There are a few smaller ones (ex. a question mark and a smaller star) in IL (including Southern IL) as well.
  3. I own a 2004 Honda CR-V EX and I can honestly say that I would never drive it off the road. It has worked better than the lower cars owned by my friends while driving on back roads (Ex. dirt roads, gravel roads, etc.) but even then I was a little worried about the possibility of getting stuck.
  4. No, they do not. We had a problem with wasps building nests under our front porch so we hung a fake wasps nest in the tree next to the porch and the problem went away.
  5. I see that statement a lot, that some people enjoy a whole lot of "Visits" which positively prove the TB is still alive or that there's a bug in an App and the TB was lost 500 Visits ago (either/or ). But I haven't seen the logs of appreciation to those people. Are there such logs? And how did the Visit People know in advance that you like the practice? And how did you know it was happening, since there's no notification until an eventual drop? I keep an eye on the trackables I have that are currently in a race (at this time I have three) and if I see that somebody has my trackable and is visiting caches and not dipping my trackable I will send them a message asking them to do so. I also have it on those particular pages for those trackables so if anybody were to go read what the mission is they will see that I want to gain as many miles as possible and I want them to dip my trackable in all the caches they visit till they drop it off. I actually had two of my race trackables win second and third place in the local race last year because of doing this (one of the trackables was held by the same person for over half of the race time and since he was a numbers guy my trackable visited a few thousand caches in that time period and the distances added up). I realize that this isn't what a lot of people prefer but seeing the different visits my trackable has made, not just what caches it has been dropped into, adds to my enjoyment of the game. spider16
  6. Then there are people like me who don't care if people do this and in fact in some cases even prefer it(ex. where my trackable is in a race and the different visits add mileage to the trackable and even a small amount of miles eventually add up). I would rather know that my trackable is active verses being forgotten.
  7. The consensus was that although there have been annual events in Chicago area for the past 13 years, as it stated on the latest listing the GONIL picnic is only in it's 8th year. I agree with what COD wrote and if you look at the cache page for 8th Annual Picnic (GC4DJ58) it states that it is the 13th year for the picnic. Quote from the cache page: "Geocachers everywhere are invited to the 8th annual fall picnic sponsored by GONIL (NOTE: This is the 13th annual Chicagoland area geocaching picnic!!)."
  8. Why was "-- Chicago/GONIL (GCA12[2001] - GC4DJ58 [2013]) – 8th Annual GONIL." removed from the list? The annual picnic started in 2001 and 8 years ago GONIL was created so the picnic was renamed the annual GONIL picnic. Even though it has only been called the GONIL picnic for 8 years there has been a Chicagoland area annual picnic since 2001... so for 13 years.
  9. An airborne landing at Arnhem (the attack was code-named Operation Market Garden) was a plan to end World War Two early. The idea for an airborne landing on Arnhem came from Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery. The heroics that occurred at Arnhem and the surrounding areas put it up with such events as Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic and D-Day in terms of the courage displayed by the men on the ground. However, some also see the attack on Arnhem as an attack that went a 'bridge too far'. Montgomery's plan was relatively simple. He believed that the most obvious crisis the Allies would face attacking into Germany was crossing the Rhine. Intelligence reports had already come in stating that the nearer the Allies got to the River Rhine, the more fierce the Germans defence was getting. Montgomery reckoned on dropping a large airborne force into Holland which could then serve a number of purposes. It could mop up German resistance in Holland but more important, it could attack outflank the defences put up by the Germans along the Siegfried Line the and then attack German defences behind the River Rhine and assist an Allied crossing of that river. While the American general Patton continued to advance in the south towards Germany, the airborne attack would assist in an attack in the north of Europe. Both armies would then squeeze what was left of German resistance in the middle.
  10. Actually it's not that arbitrary a number considering 1,095 days is three years (as long as one of those years isn't a leap year).
  11. Sorry but you got scammed, and you are not alone I got scammed by this "magazine" as well as many other people. They only ever came out with one issue yet they are still taking orders. They never answer any e-mail and if you write any negative comments on the Facebook page they will delete them and block you from writing anything else. If you are still interested in a good magazine you should look into FTF Geocacher Magazine, they publish every other month and have great customer service (if you do subscribe there feel free to tell them I recommended you).
