  1. Peterb12; Thanks for the detailed information. I would guess that your description of "difficulty" is in the fact that the software isn't laid out in any usual order. I found the same to be true. I think its a much better product than what Garmin has although it takes some time to learn.
  2. Yes. the cable is included. With the basic (free) geocaching.com account you will be able to load one cache at a time directly to the unit. You'll want to get the premium account ($30) so you can have customized caches (pocket queries) sent to your email box so you can load them in bulk. Thanks.
  3. ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD. Thanks Garmin Etrex Vista C in nice condition. I just bought a 60CSX and don't need two units. Unit has a scratch on the screen although I've been using it this way for about a year with no issues. Otherwise in nice shape. Has a ton of features. Kept in smoke free home and never wet. I dropped it once which is how the scratch got there. Works perfect. Comes with USB Computer Cable, Car Mount and Belt Case. Thanks.
  4. I agree. I run a large network of servers, workstations and network gear at work-yet it takes me hours to figure some of this stuff out. Go figure.

  6. Yes, and when you go to the Wiki, you will see that the steep learning curve is largely irrelevant. 1. Did the reviewer's do a side-by-side, step-by-step process on a competitive model with comparative features? 2. Was the competitive model equally new to them at the time so that the playing field was level? 3. Is the feature that they were trying to implement even possible on another, competitive model? 4. Did the reviewers even look at the Wiki, which may not have been available at the time? Yes, it took me some effort the first time to edit a recorded track by: 1. Downloading it from my PN-40 to Topo 7 on my PC, 2. Splitting the track into two pieces at a place where I made a wrong turn, 3. Deleting out the points of the wrong turn and doubling back, 4. Using the "Line" tool to "click" in a few new point to make the intervening section smooth, 5. Joining the three pieces, two old and the newly sketched, into one continuous track. However, if that cannot be accomplished with another, competitive model, then remarking on it as having a steep learning curve is totally useless and non-informative. OTOH, if you have no interest in these other features, is their degree of complexity of interest to you? I think these are all excellent points. It could be possible that if two engineers reported a steep learning curve that a new user may also. Heck, I hardly ever open a manual and I want to be able to figure out every device I buy, instantly. I guess there won't be one device that everyone will be happy with. I'm just glad we get to play with them all!
  7. I do believe the Delorme is a good company and I have heard nothing but good things regarding their assistance with users having issues. My issues are purely selfish. I hate to think about being without my gps for even a day. I did buy a 60Csx today, btw. I'll probably sell it in a few months when everything calms down a bit. I really needed something now. Thanks
  8. And the source of this information (regarding the why, not what's in the box) is? Since version 8 is out any day now..... what other version would it be? Its not a free update, its only $10 though. It could be Topo 7 versions that were still left in stock. It wouldn't be so far fetched to think the sale was to thin out older stock. If that's the case, and i'm only guessing here, that could mean the PN-40 may not be selling so well as of late. I'm ready to pull the trigger in a day or so. I really wanted a PN-40 because I really like Delorme as a company and how they communicate with their customers (I'm a Garmin owner). I'm worried about the problems with the PN-40 as of late. I really need an update now (Summer is near!). I'd really like to give Delorme a shot but I may have to go with the tried and true 60Csx. Sorry Delorme! Then you'll be buying long in the tooth. DeLorme like any other brand has had it's share of QC issues. What the other brands lack though is the stellar customer service DeLorme is currently known for. I currently have had no problems with my PN-40 since receiving it back in November. Long in the tooth is okay with me. I do wonder how many PN-40 users have had issues. I'm glad to hear that yours has worked well.
  9. I just bought a new one from Delorme today. You mean to tell me that I could have bought one from Amazon and paid $10 and I would have Topo 8? If you bought one directly from Delorme today, it should come with 8.

  12. Walmart.com lists the PN-40 today for $248, with free shipping. That's a great price. Too bad Walmart charges tax.
  13. I just noticed a price drop on the PN-40 to $269. Here's hoping for a price war.
  14. It appears that Delorme is running a sale today. Prices on Amazon and JR are both $269, just for today it appears.
  15. Yagazoo has some great points. I've looked very good at the Oregon 300, PN-40 and the 60Csx. My priorities are accuracy, readability and reliability. I believe that means a 60Csx. I really wanted paperless but I'm not ready to give up any other my three needs first. I can stick with my Palm and GPX Spinner. I think the price is worth it, too. I just hate buying something and the price goes down in a couple of weeks.
  16. After hearing about the new Oregon 550 units starting to show up as pre-orders--I'm wondering if/when Garmin will start discounting their existing Oregon line. I did see the recent Oregon rebates that just ran out but I wasn't ready to pull the trigger yet. I'm secretly hoping for a price drop on the 60csx unit. Cosmos1
