  1. I have just registered a "virtual" stone on the web site. Will not be able to log in until I get home as the password has been e-mailed there.
  2. I have TomTom Mobile running on my smartphone and as well as being able to import POI's you can point at the spot you wish to go to and select navigate to curser.
  3. Heres an image of the Eclipse taken at 09:07 near Brighton Eclipse 03/10/05 09:07 Will add sequence once I've edited them
  4. 09.00 here on the south coast at Brighton and the eclipse is definately visible already with a nice bite out of the top right of the sun. Should be at its best between 9.30 and 10.00. Will post some pictures later. You can make a filter using the platen from the inside of a floppy disc, if folded in two and placed in front of the lens it will protect a digital camera enough to take a picture.
  5. The majority of letterboxing in the UK remains a word of mouth hobby, and certainly in the case of Dartmoor (where letterboxing originated), you can only get hold of lists of old letterboxes until you have found 100. You are then eligible to join the Dartmoor 100 Club and are notified of new boxes by newsletter, thus restricting the new ones to veterans (a bit like member only caches). You could try this link Off Dartmoor Letterboxes or Dartmoor Letterboxes There are plenty more pages on the web covering urban and rural letterboxes. Happy hunting.
  6. Has anyone else noticed that as of yesterday the PQ's are now staying set, and the "run pocket query next week" link has been removed from the e-mail. It would appear that they have sorted out their "speed" problem or have managed to weed out the PQ's which are no longer required. Either way normal service has been restored.
  7. You should find it listed under the export menu as Microsoft Streets and Trips (.csv). Once you have imported them into Autoroute change the pushpin properties from the default black pin to something more visible, I use small red dots for unfound caches (which I delete once found) and pale blue triangles for trigs (I change these to dark blue triangles once I have logged them). Once you have them on the map you can Ctrl + left click and it should automatically open the GC.Com cache page for the cache selected.
  8. We're driving down to Newquay tomorrow for the week, planning to bag caches in Hampshire, Dorset and Devon en route. Should get a few done during the week, in between the beach and general touristy keep the kids amused stuff. Then bag a few more on the way home next weekend. Should see us past the 200 mark!!
  9. Have a look at my profile, I have a uk map showing which counties I have cached in, it isn't automatic but you only have to tick boxes. There is a link on the map to the website it came from or you can try where have you cached?. With regard to having the county on the cache page, i'm sure it cannot be that complicated to add a drop down of UK (and Ireland) counties to the cache creation page. It should also be possible to retrospectively add these to existing caches (GC:UK show the county on the search list). If TPTB could just add the counties list I'm sure that as part of our regular maintenance, cache owners would be more than happy to select the county from the dropdown. After all most of us updated our caches when the new attributes icons were released, and we regularly add links or extra info to our pages, so one quick click would not be much trouble. I have used the user data field on GSAK to add counties to my complete database, to do this I export new caches to Autoroute and with the map set to terrain I can see where they are. The downside is that Autoroute is split by Political boundaries rather than counties e.g. Berkshire is split into Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead, Wokingham and West Berkshire. However, it gives me an extra item to filter by, so it can be quite useful. Maybe the GC:UK team could come up with a download which could be used to add the correct counties to GSAK? And if we all submitted a request to GC.COM maybe they could add the function to the cache page, after all with 8000+ caches in the UK and rising, we have probably got the highest cache/cacher density and the extra option could help to lighten the load on the PQ server too!!
  10. We've posted a big fat zero for July, busy at work, busy in the garden, never seemed to find time. August on the other hand.........
  11. Have sent e-mail requesting postal address details, please let me know if you haven't received it as I have 3 bugs wishing to take part. Thanks, Darren
  12. I currently run 15 pqs spread over 7 days Sat-Fri so that be the weekend I have a completely refreshed list. To keep the database up to date you will also need to filter GSAK to check for any caches that have not been updated in the last week and download the gpx file from those individual cache pages, this will then keep the archived caches correct. I was running a daily pq to check for caches placed in the last 7 days, this is necessary if you want all the previous log entries to be downloaded. Pq's only send the last 5 logs, so new caches which generally have a lot of activity in the first week, if left to the weekly updates would possibly be missing several log entries. Unfortunately, due to the increase in activity on the PQ server this one rarely arrives so I now have to create the pq and "run it once, and delete" every day to get the same result. I guess it all depends how much history you want, and how much time you want to spend updating GSAK!!
  13. I think that as an ongoing push to making this a std thing for all mobile carriers, the manufacturers should include an ICE contact page as a separate menu item. Alternatively, maybe one phonebook entry could be selected which would then be highlighted as the ICE contact, thereby not affecting the phones other features. I know some of the users of this forum are more up on the firmware for mobiles, so could this be done as a flash upgrade to existing phones? With all new models this should be done as standard! Don't forget to also put your ICE contact details on your owner details page page in your PDA, and you could also add it to your GPS with the addition of the waypoint!! Whatever happens, I would have thought the emergency services would use their own system to make the contact rather than using the victims own mobile, so you are less likely to get a call from a number you recognise, with a strange voice telling you that your friend or loved one is hurt or worse.

  16. Beckandian have created a great site for the "It's not a jumper, it's a TB race" race from Australia. It auto updates several times a day (or would if there was any movement!) and also has tracking maps for each of the bugs taking part. Web site can be found here It's not a jumper, it's a TB race I'm sure if you follow the e-mail link at the top of the race page they'll give you some pointers.
  17. Unfortunately not, because version 2 also includes data for the 3d functions.

    Tb Help!!

Do any cachers in the area of Auburn Hills, Michigan know the cachers call "musicbutterflies". If so can you please ask them to drop off Miss T.Moo TB or let me know if she has been dropped off and not logged. The bug was last logged on 10/31/2004. Thanks for any help you can offer. Darren
  19. Palm M515 with softcase and 64MB SD Card, under £30 from ebay. Is loaded with cachemate containing every UK cache inc last 4 logs, every UK Trigpoint. All stored on external memory. Also loaded with Fugawi and as many map segments as i need for the planned trip, size only limited by remaining memory available on the Palm at time of upload as the maps cannot be written directly to the external memory, they need to be loaded and moved to the card. Mine currently has enough space to comfortably load maps of about 8MB each. I also have Spoilersync and a JPG viewer which allows me to upload Spoilers or clue pictures as required and view them in the field. Cachemate logs can be imported into GSAK and then automatically logged on GC.com. I could get a cable to link to my Etrex so that I can have real time mapping for the approach, but as the Palm only supports one application at a time, I would have to switch to the Etrex in order to read the cachemate info or check the clue if needed.
  20. We finished our final cache for today and with muddy boots removed climbed back in the car. We left the car park and avoiding the parked cars in the narrow approach lane, reached the junction with the main road. At the next available gap in the traffic I pulled out and accelerated away, to be met with a sudden thump. Seeing no sign of any debris or wildlife in the road, and there not being any traffic behind us, I assumed it was just a stone bouncing off the bottom of the car as the front wheels found grip pulling out of the junction. About 5 minutes later one of the Young Guns in the back shouted " Dad! what's that string hanging outside the middle window?" The penny dropped instantly and I swung unto the next gateway to retrieve the Etrex from the roof of the car! I had placed it on the roof while I removed Baby Gun from her back pack on my shoulders. It had obviously rolled over once as I pulled away and come to rest against the roof rails, good thing Garmin fit them with a rubber battery cover and bump strip!!!!
