  1. With cattle I guess it is a question of watching them carefully as you approach the area they are in. If they seem unsettled and treat you as a threat, it may well be time to choose another route. On the other hand if they seem relaxed then it is probably ok to proceed.
  2. I find it is a good idea to read carefully the cache description, the hint and previously kogs. Often the logs will say if the coordinates are good and if not they might say something like the cache 40 feet to the north of the published coordinates" which means you will be searching in the right area. If you are looking for an urban cache it is often very helpful to download the coordinates into google earth and using the hint see if you can spot the hiding place. You still have to go and sign the log but that can save time particularly if the cache is in an area you do not know.
  3. I reply with " a welldone you can log your find and give the correct answers with URLS in some cases so cachers can research the answers if they want. We sometimes wonder the same thing, especially when we've visited a cache covering a topic we find really interesting and the questions are open to interpretation (and we have discussions on what might be the right answers). Somehow I envy this situation. For the ECs I am typically encountering (those I have done and all those in my area that I have not done) are such that I am always sure that my answers are correct except for the estimation questions where it is is not really interesting for me whether an object is 2.13 m or 2.34 m high. Given the fact that at least Mrs Terratin is much more knowledgeable than I am, there must be enormous differences in the ECs available to you and to me. Cezanne
  4. There are two good Earth Caches which are nice walks though the centre of Cardiff.
  5. The Curse of the First to Find No 2 GC1NA65 is just to the north of the loop and since walkers might want to visit this historic church could it be included in the London Loop?
  6. Lvingstone Cottage GC1HQW5 is on the London Loop as well . Should we be adding an LL to the name with a number given to us by Dr Solly
  7. I have found several night caches and they are good crazy fun. Apart from having a good torch, it is best to go as a large group of five plus; so that you have many eyes watching out for the elusive glow of a fire tack and a large party helps to keep off the boojums ! I have found a night cache in a party of just three but we were very experienced cachers with thousands of finds between us. Good luck and enjoy.
  8. Thanks . I can use the site on my PDA and my three year old phone. It should seem that the error message was generated because the cache number was incorrect. Works fine for me on the browser (Blazer) of a Palm OS cell phone. Does the PDA use that same browser I do? Is the phone a Palm too?
  9. I can log on and use this site with my PC but when I use my PDA a Palm T/X or my mobile phone after I have logged on I still get this error message " Back You must be logged in, and also a geocaching.com subscriber to view this cache. New search Log Out Copyright © 2000-2011 Groundspeak Inc." Yet I am logged in and a geocaching.com subscriber. Is there any solution to this problem?
  10. The Hebrew calender can have 13 months "The twelve regular months are: Nisan (30 days), Iyar (29 days), Sivan (30 days), Tammuz (29 days), Av (30 days), Elul (29 days), Tishrei (30 days), Marcheshvan (29 or 30 days), Kislev (29 or 30 days), Tevet (29 days), Shevat (30 days), and Adar (29 days). In the leap years (such as 5771) an additional month, Adar I (30 days) is added after Shevat, and the regular Adar is referred to as "Adar II". so 13/13/13 is a possible date in the Hebrew calender. Trouble is it is now year 5771 in the Hebrew Calender so there is a while to wait before 13/13/13.
  11. My guess would be the driver was following his sat nav with out thinking. We were in Sonwdonia a few weeks ago and our sat nav took us along a very rough path with only passing sheep and no other vehicles!
  12. Perhaps the answer is the cache owner should place the cache in a clean location and put a note in the cache description there is a bin for canine waste near by. However there never seems to be any shortage of dog waste bins however litter bins seem to be in short supply . However unforuntalely people do not take their rubbish home but jus t hide it in bushes as I discovered while caching in the Lee Valley last Sunday. I ended up doing a mini Cito with a large bag of rubbish I could not disposed of in a bin so I had to leave it away with me!
  13. Checked on my Jeremy Bentham cache this morning. The cache I glued together seem to be ok but I will leave it outside in my garden for a few days to test the bond.
  14. No caching today saving nearby caches for finds on days I have not cached so I can complete the Devil's Challenge. I worked this evening on making new cache containers. I glue two peices together and I will check how strong the join is in the morning.
  15. Perhaps some one other than the cache owner should make a freedom of information request to see the police records on this "incident"?
  16. May be the GCGB could agree caches are not to be placed on Dog Poo bins and issue such a guide line to reviwers in the United Kingdom.
  17. Found a great cache today. Paper Mill near Marlowe. It was only a nano but in a historic location with the old mill race still there though the mill had become a shopping centre.
  18. I have four earthcache and I have the answers prepared so every time there is a request to log I cut and paste the correct answers with a suitable reply to the email. if someone has taken the time to email the answers toan eartcache it seems only fair to tell them if their answers are correct and tell them have the correct answers.
  19. Have a look at GC19BCY Loughton Camp Iron Age Hill Fort for an example of an earth cache featuring an iron age hill fort.
  20. I had a strange rash while doing the lost fleet river series on 31st March 2011. It cleared up after a while. I still do not know what caused it.
  21. In fairness the tin might have been a drugs stash and if the caller had touched it and opened it if it was a drug he could have been destorying evidence so it is a bit of a no win situation when you find an unmarked container. I am assuming the tin was not properly marked with a label as a cache. The guy actually looked, found an Altoids tin, and still called the police? Guess he was looking for his five minutes of fame. BTW, welcome. You have a head start on most newbies. You already know about the famous LPC, (Lamp Post Cache). After you find two of them, they become boring, but most newbies, myself included, search and search and search, and never think to lift up that cover.
