  1. Look Hannibal a chew toy! Just kidding very cute!
  2. Of course I have to say Mastiff's are the best caching dogs. Theres nothing like transporting a wet and muddy 190 pound dog in the back of your vehicle.
  3. While I'm no model, I am a lot smaller than I was before I started caching.
  4. Ok it's me!...........Not really, but if it was this would just give me more incentive to be FTF.
  5. Besides the fact that most hunters carry guns.
  6. Welcome to the addiction. You're in my neck of the woods so if you need any help let me know.
  7. Just for others that might not have seen it this is taken from the FAQ. "Do you have an FRS/PMR channel to find out if other Geocachers are in the area? Yes. The community has decided on channel 2 as the primary for both FRS and PMR, and 12 as the alternate FRS (Family Radio Service) channel and 8 for the alternate PMR (Europe). FRS and PMR radios are longer distance walkie talkies, like the Motorola Talkabout."
  8. Where did that new smilie go for the people complaining about having to renew thier PQ's once a week.............Oh here it is!
  9. I should start carrying mine again, lots of new cachers in my area.
  10. NO. Just more bells and whisles but the underlying software is pretty much the same. My caching partiner with almost 4k finds uses the yellow etrex still. cheers I agree, I have an Etrex Vista and a Legend, and I swear that the cheaper gps settles down more quickly than the Vista.
  11. Whenever someone goes with me they are usally close enough that I don't need the radios. I used to carry one and leave in on tuned to channel 2 the agreed upon geocachers channel, but after 6 months and not hearing anyone else I gave up on it.
  12. Probably about a 1/3rd of my finds are at night. I worked the 3-11 shift for a while. I wear an led headlamp. Carry a 2D maglight and have a Surefire 6p on my belt and a Peak Matterhorn AAA led light in my pocket. You can never have enough flashlights with you at night. One night the bulb died in my big maglight and dummy me didn't have a spare with me, the surefire eats batteries in a hurry and I was down to the AA mini mag that I carry in my caching bag. The thing that I've found about night caching is that unless the trail is well established you lose it fairly quickly and end up bushwacking to most of them. Always, always mark you car though. It's amazing how fast you can get turned around in the woods at night.
  13. My wife loves to hunt for micros. She has to be in the right mood for a hike in the woods. My dog usually goes with me if I'm going in the woods. He gets all excited when he sees me grab the caching pack. I have one pack for when I ride the motorcycle and one for caching and he can tell the difference.
  14. I have a palm Tungsten E and TinyDiny has a zire 21. They are both color but the Tungsten E screen resolution is much better. It was also a lot more expensive though.
  15. If I lived in Maui I would try to find your cache. Actually I would just like to live in Maui.
  16. To bring this thread back on topic.............. Gas prices havn't affected my caching yet. Even if I burn up a 1/2 tank of gas on a geocaching day it's still a bargain compared to other activities like going to an amusement park. Plus I get some excersise to boot.
  17. We have had plenty of threads about what's in your caching bag. I want to know if you carry anything in your pockets daily as a result of becoming a geocacher. I used to hate carrying things in my pants pockets, but because of caching I've added a couple of things to my every day carry. I'll start. Keys clipped to belt loop with a carabiner taken from a cache. Fisher Space Pen in left front pocket/will write on wet logs. Kershaw Chive knife in right front pocket/not specifically for caching. Wallet in back right pocket/money and ID of course. Peak Matterhorn AAA led flashlight in my right front pocket/hate sticking my hands where I can't see. Samsung cell phone/In case I get lost. So what's in your pants?
  18. I think that your missing the point here. YOU may be able to use a map to that degree of accuracy I won't argue that. But the OP is just starting out and while they have had some succes in FINDING caches with a map, it is a whole different ballgame hiding one for other people.
  19. This is a game that we play, nothing more. Right or wrong this is thier life. I will not disturb someones life to play a game.
  20. If you hide one without a GPS you should probably put some kind of a disclaimer on the cache page stating that.
  21. No prize, just a little friendly competition.
  22. Let me be the first one to throw stones. Your making some broad generalizations about people that like to get FTF's. There are 4 people in my general area that like to try to get FTF including myself. I know the other 3 personally and we all have full time jobs and 2 of us go to college part time. Many of my finds are at night and they have never been because I was coming home from a bar. I have 48 FTF's, I must be falling down drunk all the time!
  23. Good for you! I'll get there someday.
  24. Sounds pretty lame to me. The FTF race is pretty heated around here. I've gone out at 3:00 AM to claim some. If someone is not willing to make that kind of effort while others do, do they really deserve a FTF.
