  1. Thanks for info I found some that the locations are adjusted. Does this mean that somebody went there and actually recorded the coords. with a gps?
  2. Hello, have found all of the caches in my area that I don't have to drive 45 minutes to get to so I thought I would give benchmarking a try. Sounds neat as hardly anybody in my area seems to be looking for them and I would love to find something that nobody has seen since before I was born. The two that I tried to find today were both supposed to be cemented into bridge abutments near railroad tracks. It should have been easy as it was only supposed to be 91 feet from the middle of a road. I even made a waypoint on the road and walked the distance using the gps. Passerbys must have thought that I was nuts as cleared all of the snow off the bridge abutment with no luck. I can't find any listed that are on the sides of buildings. I could probably do the tower thing but I would like to find an actual disk. I really give you guys credit. There are only so many places that you can hide an ammo can but this seems way harder. Any suggestions to a benchmark newbie. Should I give up on this until the snow melts?
  3. I would get some doot bronzed but everyone would have to start putting out bigger cache containers!
  4. Thanks Sparky, I will have to check out the craft stores. I am not too creative but I could probably figure something out.
  5. What I like to find in a cache the most are signature items. It says something about the cacher that left it and helps you associate a name with personality. One of the best things that I have found in a cache is a tiny wooden mouse left by Atmousbusters. I am sure that it cost only a few cents to make but it came out of one of the first caches that I found and is a whole lot more memorable and meaningful to me than any mctoy that I will find. Just thought that I would ask you guys and gals if you have any ideas of what I could buy/make. It has to be dog related I am the Mastifflover, and somewhat unique. Any ideas?
  6. Maybe I am lucky in my area as most of the caches are very well stocked. I think some of that has to do with the fact that most are in pretty remote places and geocachers around here are pretty hardcore. What I like to find in caches are signature or handmade items. One of my favorite things that I have found in a cache is a tiny wooden mouse left by Atmousebusters. It still sits right on my cable modem. It probably only cost them a few cents to make but it is unique to them. I do agree though that most of the people that read these forums are not the ones guilty of trading down. They seem to be the people that are dedicated to the advancement of the hobby, and the enjoyment of the search.
  7. Did this one recently and it was great fun. Mmmmmmm Good. Got to meet the owner of the cache. He does mention that it is in his front yard and where to park.
  8. Oh great, there goes my zero warn meter! Maybe I can see what it's like on the dark side. No more goody two shoes for me.
  9. It will be tadpole until you reach 10 posts.
  10. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. As you can tell by my avatar and geocaching name I am also a dog lover. My old man Max is now 12 years old and really showing his age. Starting to get a little misty eyed now as I wonder how much time I have left with him.
  11. Definately going! I will need a 6 person cabin. Just let me know where to send the check.
  12. Good luck let us know how you made out.
  13. Hello, welcome to the hobby/sport/game/addiction! First off slow down, I know this may sound funny because you want to run out and find a cache now!! I really suggest that you read that dreaded manual. Not that familiar with a Gecko but if it is anything like my legend you need to first figure out how to mark a waypoint. Then you need to know how to change the numbers in that waypoint to match the numbers on the cache page that you plan on looking for. Then you need to find a goto button that points the way to the cache. You may want to do a search its the little magnifying glass at the top right of this web page for a Gecko and I am sure that you find lots of helpful stuff. Happy Hunting Mastifflover

  22. Ok I asked this question in another thread but it was getting lost so I will ask again for me and the other compass newbees. If I buy a compass with a movable pointer do I just orient the compass pointer to the direction that the arrow on my gps is pointing and then just follow the compass if signal gets spotty or nonexistant on my gps? Thanks in advance!
