  1. I seem to remember being able to search for Travel Bugs in my area on Geocaching.com but I can't find the page now. Does anyone know how to do this?
  2. I want to temporarily disable my cache so I can bring it home for a little maintenance. I can see I can post a new Log Entry, and there are various options such as Temporarily Disable Listing which I imagine will stop it showing as "active" and stop people finding it. Would this be an option? But then, how do I re-enable it? I cannot see an option for that. Is there a process I need to go through to disable my listing, sort the cache and re-enable it again?
  3. Wow, they sound creepy and fun. Love the idea of the trail of fire tacks, eyes and UV markers. I'm going to try one... after a little more experience... I'm like tallglenn. Lol.
  4. It's amazing how sad and lonely some people are. I feel sorry for the person behind this site. Maybe someone isn't giving them enough attention or not written nice things about their own cache, they spent ages preparing. In my Geocaching ignorance (being new to it still) I feel relief in thinking, at least they're out killing Tupperware boxes with a lonely heart and not killing people with automatic weapons. Maybe all they need is a hug from Mum, and to be told; sometimes life is hard.
  5. How do you mean? So are night caches dedicated caches? Not just a 'normal' cache?
  6. I read in people's comments they do "night caching". Sorry for the impending stupid questions but they're coming... Is night caching literally done during the night and if so, has anyone every been questioned by land owners or the police? I got questioned by the police mid-day when looking for a cache in bushes in a dried up stream. I had to explain the game! I just imagine caching at night by torch light would look very suspicious.
  7. I use the forums on my phone. Where is the search on here? This looks like a bootstrapped, cut down version of the forum. EDIT: I found more menus in the footer. I'll search next time.
  8. Hope you're not implying that an ancient zombie thread should have been imprudently bumped! Nope, no pots needing to be stirred here either... Simply casually showing others that often information one is looking for can be found in a simple search.
  9. I've just tried logging a Find for: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCX2XW_raf-rail but it isn't posting. I've checked my Mobile Data connection and tries logging twice. But it's not posting. Has anyone had this before? EDIT: I tried on the same connection on the website and this worked straight away. I wonder if there is an issue with their REST interface for the App.
  10. Some interesting views here. I've packed up a few "tools" to help a little if I can. I think I agree with TheVoytekBear's last but paragraph. I've seen a few nice places I'd now know existed if it weren't for the caches.
  11. Thanks guys. I read (or read most of) the thread Cerberus1 offered up. I was if the mind not to interfere with someone elses cache, leave them to manage it. Maybe through a NM note. On the other hand, I found a cache that was full of water. I emptied it, dried it and messaged the CO. I heard nothing back. In these cases, I've posted a Find but said I didn't sign the log. Maybe a new flag of "Needs Maintenance" (a tick box when logging the Geocache in the App) would be nice then after x amount of logs, with this flag set to TRUE, this automatically raises a NM request with the CO?
  12. I've seen a number of caches where people have said they've replaced the log because it was wet. What does this actually mean? I assume they've not taken away then existing log and replaced it with an empty one? Wouldn't this upset the CO? Or, where a damp log is found, is it considered good practice to remove the damp log altogether and put in a replacement?
  13. I use Geocaching.com. Use the Pocket Query (under Premium Member account/services), provide the criteria a need for my caches and run the query. When I get my alert email telling me the query has run, I use the link in there to download the .gpx file to my Laptop. I then connect my eTrex via USB and drag/drop the .gpx file into the Garmin GPX folder on the INTERNAL MEMORY on the device. These are now accessible VIA the Navigation menu (under Geocaches) on your device.
  14. Appreciate this reply is a little late but I had a similar(ish) problem. To be aware of on an eTrex. I uoloaded the .gpx files correctly, but when learning the device, I went into the Waypoints menu, saw a load listed and for some reason (I hate it when my clients do this too!) I deleted them. This effectively deleted ALL Geocaches stored. The .gpx file was still present, it was valid XML and read OK in the third party tools but from that point on, the Garmin software just wouldn't read the .gpx files. I had rot rename them and re-upload them. They may have been in the right folder, but they may have been corrupted if you did what I did. The only work around I had was to use the Nav menu and navigate using the Coordinates option and navigate with the Lat/Lon listed in the App until I fixed the .gpx issue.
  15. I was thinking, is there such a thing (website or thread) where you can ask, "Is anyone from [this] place travelling to [that] place?". I ask because after viewing a few TB goals, I often see those wanting to travel to specific countries or regions, for whatever reason. If anyone has a TB, they could ask if anyone from - for example - Buckinghamshire is travelling to France, if so, they could drop the TB in an agreed cache to exchange for travel. May be a stupid idea, it just got me wondering if such a thing existed to help fellow Geocachers reach their TB goals.
  16. She comes along sometimes - I think she likes the fresh air. What's the souvenir? Is it a virtual thing for finding a cache on International Geocaching Day?
  17. I've heard about GSAK but not looked at it properly - I need to - my wife is not going to see me this weekend! LOL.
  18. Thanks guys! All this has been a brilliant help. I just don't want to give Geocaching a bad name and to hack off landowners in the process. I've bought Locus Pro (recommended above) and thanks to Google Rewards I had £5.81 credit there so it's cost me 18p!! Happy days!! I'll give this a good trial this weekend. I've already asked a CO for advice on getting to some of their caches and I'm looking at Where's The Path. This is a pretty awesome site. Thanks again guys... much appreciated!
  19. I'm new to Geocaching - a month or so - and I'm keen on the remote Traditional Caches. I see them all over the place and some are a good trek away, letting me boot up and wander. I live in the UK. Some caches however seem to be "land locked" for want of a better term. I see some near to field edges with Bridleway's; all good. Some however are way inland, through several fields and appear to have been dropped by air! I'm interested in hearing how others in England navigate to these caches successfully and without upsetting land owners. I am very conscious about just stomping through fields in case I'm trespassing. I see some fields appear to have pathways and breaks in hedge rows etc. on Google Maps but this isn't guaranteed to be the case in real life and despite reading up on Rights of Way, I'm still a little nervous and mindful I may inadvertently stray across land I have no right to. Two caches I can give examples of are GC3YB5R and GCX2XW. These look accessible if I use the gates or fences but I don't want to be causing distress to landowners or worse still, landing up in court for trespass. Thanks for your advice and help in advice!! Jonny
  20. Ahh OK, good point. I didn't realise that. This coin has a huge log and travelled all over, so I was continuing that theme. I will bear that in mind however for future trackables.
  21. Hi Speakers Corner, I found it and it's not visited three caches today. Thanks for all your help!
  22. I picked up a Geocoin yesterday. I wanted it to visit the caches I find. I thought, by having a trackable (such as a Geocoin) in my possession, it would "automatically" visit the caches I visit, thus clocking up its experience and mileage? Am I mistaken? How do I log the Geocoin as having visited another cache?
