  1. Sorry if this has been asked / answered already... How good is the GPS in the 3G? Are you able to strictly use the iPhone (no handheld GPS)? Or is it not as accruate? Good enough? Thanks!
  2. I just put my GPS package up for sale on eBay in case anyone is interested. It's the Magellan SporTrak Map. It comes with the following. Everything works great I just need money to get a touchscreen LCD for my carputer.. Magellan SporTrak Map GPS ($200 Retail) PC Data Cable (Came with GPS) Cigarette Lighter Power / Data Cable ($45 Retail) Car Mount Holder ($20) Delorme Street Atlas 2004 USA ($50 Retail) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MESE:IT
  3. A couple months ago I had my GPS hooked up to my laptop and was using it for navigation. All of a sudden it wasn't getting any signal. On the screen where you see all the sattelites I usually had numbers 1-12 (I think it went up to 12) but at that time there was only 1,2,3 and it wasn't able to get a 3d position lock. I ended up totally clearing everything out and then it finally started working again. Well this past weekend I went geocaching and had some other strange happenings. It would tell me I was about 500 feet away and it would go down as I got closer but then it told me I was within like 17 feet so I stopped. Then it started saying I was like 60 feet away and without me even moving the distance was going up. It was a clear day and there really wasn't any tree or cloud cover. Anyone ever see or hear of anything like this?
  4. Clearing the memory totally and reinitializing worked. After I did that I took it in my truck for a ride and it was acting strange.. It took FOREVER to get a position fix and the skies were clear. I hope it's not on the bling.. Thanks
  5. I've had my SporTrak Map for about 3 months now and all has been working good. Last night I went on a short trip and had it hooked up to my laptop for navigation. About 20 minutes into the trip it stopped getting a position fix. I reset it and put it on the satellite screen. Strangely only three satellites were showing and also only three on the bottom. I took the batteries out and powered down multiple times but nothing worked. It could never get a 4th satellite and could barely pull the three in. Is it broken?? Thanks!
  6. Can people post some pictures of the holders actually in the vehicles? I posted mine and it works great. There's only one thing that is making me think of getting a different one. I plan to put a laptop mount somewhere in my truck and where the GPSr is right now will be in the way.
  7. I was in the same boat as you. Wanted a car holder, didn't want to pay big bucks, and knew there had to be a homemade solution. Here are pictures of what I just got for mounting my SporTrak in my 2003 Ranger: Large View Image 1 Large Image View 2 Large Image View 3 You can get this holder at WalMart for $10.00. It's actually a cell phone holder / charger but I think it works great! Here is a link to the holder.
  8. Anyone have Delorme Street Atlas USA 2004 that they want to get rid of? Let me know how much or if you want to trade I have Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004.
  9. So what exactly does Street Atlas USA 2004 do? I looked at the website but it wasn't all that informative. Is it basically just like S&T2004 but with better GPS functions? Does it tell you what leg of the directions you are on and actually speaks to tell you when to turn? Anyone selling it or know where to get it cheap? Thanks for the replies!!
  10. Ok.. I pair my SporTrak Map up with my laptop using Microsoft Trips & Streets 2004 and use it while on the road via the real time GPS support. It's awesome the way it shows you exactly where you are traveling along a certain road. My question is this.. We used it for directions to a restaurant and while the directions were right on the button the software could do more. I don't know if I'm dreaming or if there is software out there that does this.. I would like it to show you what leg of the directions you are on and then announce when you should get off on a certain exit or make a certain turn. Is there any software out there that does this? Thanks!
  11. Thanks for the reply. My SporTrak doesn't have "in and out" as an option under NMEA. It has: V1.5 APA V1.5 XTE V2.1GSA I tried putting it on V1.5 APA and it worked with Streets and Trips but didn't work with anything else. I tried the other two settings and they didn't work either. So I guess I'll just have to change it back and forth depending on what programs I use unless someone else knows a fix for it. Thanks again for your help!
  12. I just got a SporTrak Map and Microsoft Streets and Trips 2004. My laptop doesn't have any com ports so I got this one off eBay. It is a USB To Serial RS232 DB9 Cable Adapter. I hooked it up to my laptop (XP) and installed the drivers. I then hooked up my GPS to it and it works fine in both EasyGPS and Mapsend. When I try to use it w/ Streets and Trips it keeps saying it cannot find it. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks so much!! Tom
  13. Harrald, thanks for answering my question. That worked. Another quick one.. How do I leave out the Logs?
  14. Hello, I'm new to the paperless caching and just have a quick question. I've become a premium member, created a pocket query and got the gpx file, converted it via gpx spinner, and then ran Plucker on the html files. I hotsynced the file and can bring it up on my PDA and view the caches. My question is... How can I sort them by closest to me? I've read people can do that but it never said how. Thanks!
  15. Here are pictures of what I just got for mounting my SporTrak in my 2003 Ranger: Large View Image 1 Large Image View 2 Large Image View 3 You can get this holder at WalMart for $10.00. It's actually a cell phone holder / charger but I think it works great! I had sorta a question / idea. This holder has a cable that also charges your cell phone. Is it possible to snip the end off the cable and solder the end of the SporTrak cable onto it to provide power to the GPS? Here is a link to the holder.

  17. Well I got a vent cellphone holder from Walmart last night and it totally sucked. I put it on the vent and when the GPS is in it just pulls the vent all the way to the bottom making it not vertical. I took it back today and got this one which I am very happy with so far. You plug it into your cigarette lighter and it can also charge your cell phone. Depending on where your cig adapter is in your car this may / may not be for you. Quick question... Does anyone know how many volts the cigarette power adapter supplys to the SporTrak Map? I may try and use this to supply power to my GPS rather then my cell phone. Thanks
  18. I'm trying to think of something to use to hold my GPS while in my car. I don't want to spend $20-$30 for the adapters that are made specifically for that so I went looking on eBay. Here are some things I found: MotoMagnet - Do you think this will interfere with the GPS or cause harm to it? Universal Cell Phone Holder - A gps will also fit in this. It clips onto your car vent. And I just found this one which I might end up getting. What does everyone else use?
  19. Anyone know where to get the PC/Data/Cigarette Power cable for cheap?
  20. The cable with the plug is like $20 more.. If there to wire directly to a 12v source then I don't see why it wouldn't work to solder it to a cigarette adapter which is 12v? Can someone say otherwise??
  21. I want to get a PC Data / Power cable for my SporTrak and seen this on ebay. It has bare wires.. Can I solder the wires to a cigarette adapter or what? What are the bare wires for?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks, Tom
  22. Just like the topic says.. I'm looking for a SporTrak Map. If anyone is interested in selling email me. tscott2340 (AT) zoominternet.net
