  1. I appreciate that this is an old thread, but just in case somebody else is looking for a similar solution: You can easily (< click the link to see a demo video). Personally, I think it's better to charge the batteries separately and outside of the unit whenever possible. All decent NiMH chargers will charge each battery on its own, monitoring its voltage and temperature so that each cell gets the right amount of charge - the Garmin GPS doesn't do this, it charges the two batteries in series rather than individually, which will ultimately shorten their life span.
  2. Hiya! Noticed something odd with 3 of our latest 'personal' coins - we activated them, logged them through a local cache, dropped them into an event & retrieved them afterwards... but they still show no mileage! We've tried recalculating the mileage on the trackable listing, but still nothing. Any ideas?! Cheers
  3. Cheers - that has put everything into perspective for me
  4. Hi all! Just a simple question... I was looking at the ECMasters application form earlier and noticed that for the UK, the criteria for identifying the geographical location of an EC is different from that used on geocaching.com. How should I identify the region/State that an EC falls into if it differs from that given on the EC website? Cheers Mimi x
  5. Having read the above comments with interest, I must admit that there is a degree of confusion evident when checking out cache sites in relation to the areas that they would typically belong to (if counties were used). I live in Cambridgeshire, and the Lincolnshire/Norfolk borders are within 5 miles of my home - this puts me in the East of England which is a HUGE 'State'. The easy solution is to check out the map on geocaching.com and pick a nearby 'cache-rich' area to visit. A lot of the time the sites I find are listed simply as 'UK'. Out of curiosity, how likely is it that these State boundaries will remain?
  6. Hi pepperjelly Same here - as a newbie, I worked out a few by randomly reading logs: TFTC = thanks for the cache TNLN = took nothing, left nothing (but what is TNLNSL??!) TB = travel bug Can anyone enlighten out there us further? Cheers Mimi Awesome BlueDeuce - thanks!!!
  7. Hi spezticle/Benjamin I suggest you look for caches which are close by - visit www.geocaching.com and do a search using your town/zip code. This will help to hone your skills without travelling too far! Each cache has its own log which states when it was last found (visited) and by whom, etc. Caches are logically placed in locations that allow public access - bear in mind that not ALL members of the public are geocachers. Caches need to be kept 'secret' in order to avoid vandalism from non-geocachers, who might think it amusing to spoil our fun... when searching for a cache, discretion is most definitely the name of the game Go forth and enjoy (but remember, just like eBay it can become addictive)!
