  1. Totally wrong, all RAF ammo cans of above 9mm usually have had a DU rounds in them, but hey what would you know, you were never in the RAF. You're right, I never was in the RAF, and glad I wasn't. But as far as my knowledge goes, I did spend 13 years in the army, 8 of those years were spent serving on main battle tanks, which do use DU rounds. I'll admit I don't know whether anything larger than a 9mm in the RAF have had DU round in them or not. What you fail to state is that DU rounds are only used in real combat situations, regardless of the service using them. That means that all of the said ammo cans are opened in an operational theatre, such as Afghanistan. I'll admit I don't know what happens to the empty containers, but I would have thought the cost of shipping them back to the UK just to be sold off to army surplus stores is likely to be non effective. Also after the first Gulf war the MOD had bad press about the DU rounds that were used, I am sure they wouldn't dream of selling contaminated containers to the open market. Far too much of a back lash for them to do that.
  2. Thanks for the update, I'll make sure that we check the traffic updates on the way down on Friday.
  3. The key phrase, I suspect. Corrected, It's sometimes hard to be fully grammatically correct, especially when you have other things going on also; so why not go and play like a good boy, until you have something constructive and important to the subject. I think it may be due to the fact that you tend to make rude and pigheaded statements like the above, that tends to lead people to dismiss your opinion at the start?? And Haggis Hunter never has an opinion! Pick me up, I can't stop laughing, in such a serious example I think the words were well chosen, and in the case above I only brought it in the forums at the time, as the various Caching bodies ignored the evidence I provided, they would only accept the reality of the situation once a 3rd party told them it was not on, and that all I had said was factual; that is pigheadedness of the highest order. As for rude, learn its meaning before you use the word, you might then just realize that you have been rude in here on many occasions! To quote yourself... YAWN!!!
  4. Edinburgh has caches in two areas that are SSSI and all of the caches have full permission to be there. I am quite sure that the experts who allowed them to be there, know whether they are dangerous or not. As for most ammo cans having high concentration of DU, what a load of ****. DU is only used in armour piercing rounds. The ammo cans that you tend to see in caching are small arms ammo cans. Which do not have any DU what so ever.

  6. I think if you are going to include this sentence in your info you should only do so with more detail. If more detail isn't available then don't include it. It raises more questions, increases potential worry, and the consultation process may get bogged down into further (pointless) discussion about whether geocaching is illegal. (It's pointless without more facts.) A very good point, as you can only receive a caution if you have carried out an illegal activity.
  7. Believe me you are not alone with your naivety. I work in security within a university and it really surprises me the amount of people that believe the world is a nice place and that everyone in it are honest. Another point to make is that a lot of police forces put you straight through to their control centres. Lothian & Borders certainly do. This means that you will be speaking to the exact same operators as you would be if you made a 999 call. Which means the police force immediately presume that because you have taken the time to dial their number and not make an emergency call, that you do not require assistance immediately and you will be put as a lower priority. You will then be left with the police turning up a couple of hours later (or even the next day) at your house. At that point you are back at the same situation as you find yourself in now. So if you want assistance before the person leaves the scene, then dial 999. You won't be taking that call from someone else. But it will allow the control centre to prioritise your situation with more accuracy.
  8. I have had two instances were I have been stopped and questioned by land managers, both of which I was initially perceived as a security threat. The first one was Water of Life - Glenkinchie and the second was Dynamic located within a 'stones throw' from the Scottish Parliament. Although I didn't quite mention it in my log for Dynamic, security did have me surrounded with all possible escape routes cut off. I have also been stopped with Firth of Forth & roolku at night by the police, you can read our logs at Not up the Kilt Please! dated the February 19, 2005
  9. I think another lesson that should be learnt here is that the owner denied from the first instance that her dog was dangerous. That would have set alarm bells ringing straight away for me. In any case 999 should have been dialled straight away and reported to the police that you had been attacked, thus not allowing the person to get away from the scene before the police being involved and being able to deny it without you having proof. Blood still pouring down your leg and the owner with dog still there is more credible than you going into a police station after the fact. Lets face it, if a complete stranger came up and thumped you, said sorry I have never done that before and walked off. You wouldn't leave it 24 hours before informing the police you would call them straight away. Why is being bitten by a dog any different?
  10. I've just read your log for your first find. Although that is not a bad cache, you will find worse and you will most certainly find a lot better. That one is generally about the smallest that you may find, but you will find caches that are a lot larger.
  11. There used to be a time when people expected you to hide a cache to give back to the process. But with so many caches I don't think it is important now. After all some people place caches just for the sake of it and we end up with some really naff caches.
  12. I wish I had tried to book the day off work now, looks like it would have been worth the 2 hour(ish) drive.
  13. Taken just last month at Glen Quey Hike----Innerdownie (5-10). If I hadn't been the judge last month, this picture would have been used then. There is just enough people to make it a group photo!! With the exception of Original A1, who took the picture, this was all of the attendees at SP's After the Pain! (Edinburgh) event. I don't expect the next couple of photo's to count, but you can consider them if you wish. This photo is over a year old, but it was a good event. This one is a little bit more recent, taken at my CITO event in April.
  14. I haven't recieved an email, but I am listed as a winner, so I have emailed them with my details. So I suppose it is good news To be fair, I don't think many if any Geocachers would have known about this competition if it had not been for Mr Irish advertising it on his website and geocaching facebook page. It is how I found out about it. Granted it did have the desired effect for him, as people automatically became members of his team. Something I didn't realise until today. I had noticed that I was initially a sub team, but I didn't know who's team I was with, so I removed myself. If he had said at the start, I would probably have left him as my team leader, meaning he would have won something like a further £500
  15. Apparently the last knight has been found.
  16. Is Helen part of anyone else's team? The prize money goes from the winner through to team leaders down to £125. That can be 4 layers of winners.
  17. They don't actually need to be cachers, they can be friends and family as well. Get them to register here and tell them to go and visit local parks in one of those two places and if they see a Knight register it on the website supplied in the link. If they are first they will win £1,000 The knight will be there until 9pm tonight or until he is found. If he isn't found tonight he will be there tomorrow from 9am until 9pm.
  18. There is also the GeoX Forum that myself and some other Scottish cachers prefer to use. Either way you will still be in touch with cachers from Scotland.
  19. The two logs by Newstead862 made me laugh, what a contradiction.
  20. I have to say that SP's picture of the dolphin is great and may even have won? But I think that it is only fair to say that you are late with your entry therefore I am disqualifying it. Sorry So many great pictures posted this month, and it has been extremely difficult to choose a winner. Along with my family we did narrow it down to 4 pictures which are - duncanhoyle's Heston Island Reflection Guanajuato's Walking on Water The Patrician's Flying Gannet Yet there can only be one winner. This picture was chosen for it's simplicity in thinking, yet demanding on difficulty and timing of taking. So the winner is................... The Blorenges water splash, congratulations Chris. :D
  21. Looks like he should have got permission for placing the container, silly billy!!
  22. hope you don't mind I clicked your link, good luck! I don't mind at all, the more the merrier
  23. I am looking for recruits to my team, you can also run sub teams from a larger team. All finders and team leaders share in the reward, which is cache I mean cash. Click here to be part of my team.
  24. GeoX and the other forum is Geofrees, but I am afraid I don't have a link to that.
  25. Hmmf! A Micro, you could have hidden a container this big here?
