I'm liking this "favourites" thing a lot!
Haggis Hunter replied to The Chaos Crew's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Yes it will, despite this being a feature that PM's can award, all members can view the feature and see what caches have been allocated a favo(u)rite ribbon. -
New forum format - love it or hate it...
Haggis Hunter replied to T.R.a.M.P.'s topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I'm not sure what has changed. It looks the same to me, with some cosmetic changes. Hopefully they have also changed it over to a database engine with more grunt to end the dreaded mysql timeouts. I'm not actually quoting the above comments I just wanted to see what it looks like when you quote a post that has a quote in it. I quite like the different colours of quotes. I think previous quotes before the upgrade don't look like this though. -

So long, and thanks for all the fish....

Take care and get better soon. -
If that cache so happens to be Dark Star, then it's a waste of time going to look for it as the cache is archived.

Don't take bookmarks as gospel as they don't always have all the caches that could be listed on them. There is a series of night caches in Pitmeden Forest by marmal. Best to do these sooner rather than later as they may not be around after the next couple of months. There is also an excellent night cache at Bonaly in Edinburgh and another which is done around Edinburgh city centre finding different kinds of lights to get the final co-ords. To my knowledge none of these are listed on that bookmark list.

Best caches in Edinburgh?
Haggis Hunter replied to buttaskotch's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
The access gates to Crag & Tail get closed for periods of time throughout the year. There is no timetable for when this happens so the cache is left live all year round. The said DNF's were due to this. By all accounts access is now open again and you should be able to get access when you visit. As for the Ferrari TB, if you can make it to Trotters Independent ‘Auto’ Traders (No. 44 bus will take you there) you will find a cache that is themed for cars. But please read the description before going. -
I always log virtuals and earthcaches as found and email the owner with the details. If a picture is required I include the picture with my log, ensuring no spoiler pictures are included. If the owner isn't happy with what I have done they can always let me know. So far I have never had an issue.

Escape to the country, Geocaching on TV

I started to watch that episode and realised it was a repeat that I had already seen, so I turned it over and watch Noel instead. -
Best caches in Edinburgh?
Haggis Hunter replied to buttaskotch's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
What they all said GC 10: Edinburgh Castle, previously mentioned, is also large enough for TB's and is a city centre cache. My bookmark lists are still useful but I don't really keep them up to date any more. With that said if the cache is active on the list then it is still worth using the list. All of the lists are made with the tourist in mind, so you don't need your own transport. -
How did you first hear about geocaching?
Haggis Hunter replied to The Chaos Crew's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
For me it was Firth of Forth's fault. I was at work and was reading the Sunday Post and seen an article that she was interviewed for. I registered that day and found my first cache a few days later, without a GPS. Mrs HH bought me a Garmin Geko 201 for my Christmas and the rest is history. -

Are the geocaching reviewers bizzy
Haggis Hunter replied to bazzer1975's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Which means that the reviewers may not have realised that I have a cache in the queue that is within an SSSI, but has got permission. There is no immediate hurry for it just now, as I don't need it publishing until Tuesday. But it would be good to know if I need to do anything else before then. It's number is GC25XQP I'm also aware that Scotland's trusty reviewer is not available at the moment, so if another nice reviewer could take a look when they have time it would be greatly appreciated. -
10/10/10 Events in the UK and Ireland
Haggis Hunter replied to The Blorenges's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I think I might do one next year on Nov 11th, probably shortly after 11am Presumably poppy themed? Have you not got more important things to be doing rather than posting on here? Best of luck today -
Being a person who can't afford any of the extra pieces of kit that Gralorn has described I have to agree that it can be frustrating not being able access the internet whilst away. Never mind needing to access whilst on the ground so that you can find the last cache of a series. I suppose if I came across such a series then I would have no option but to ignore the chance of the bonus. Which would be a shame as sometimes the bonus is designed to be the best cache of the series.

geocachers becoming nature vandels
Haggis Hunter replied to paganfrog's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
If a cache is placed on someone elses property without permission why would they feel the need to justify their request for it to be removed. Why would they let it stay if they weren't happy with it being placed on their land? My point is that the landowner knew it was there. Most landowners who look after their land effectively would know where such a rare (possibly unknown) species of out of season bluebells would be and would want to take action BEFORE they got damaged. Or in more basic terms if the landowner knew of it's location and was happy to just leave it in place, then they should accept the responsibility of damage as if they had been approached and given permission. I'm not saying that it is appropriate to place a cache without permission, but in this case it would appear as though the landowner would have granted it anyway. Why else would they have left it in place without taking action to stop damage from happening. -

Here is the route on the walkhighlands website. I do agree it does look like a great challenge. -
geocachers becoming nature vandels
Haggis Hunter replied to paganfrog's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Let's not forget that although the cache in mention was apparently placed without permission, the landowner was in knowledge of it's existance and I presume location. So why didn't they take action before the 'out of season' bluebells got trampled? How about a link to the forum and thread that these allegations are being made on so we can get a better picture of what the geocaching community is being accused of? -
I hope you get it sorted soon Jacaru. Hopefully Groundspeak will be able to block the culprits ISP once it is confirmed who they are? As per usual antagonising for the sake of antagonising!! Not that anybody is probably interested, but the ukcachers web site was hacked into mid morning and all the files wiped (except one that they left, which has 'interesting' data in it). We are currently obtaining the ISP's access logs. That's a coincidence! I'm glad I had the fore thought to use a completely different password for that site, purely due to this sort of possibility from happening.

You demonstrated the kit to him? Think that makes you 'staff' and ineligible to enter! I ended up having to show the manager of the store I went to how to load waypoints onto her Dakota. -

Haggis Hunter replied to Cornell Finch's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
There really are some low life's about isn't there? Don't let them get you down. I hope your problems have sorted themselves out and well done for sticking with the show, it does get listened to and so far you are thinking of different things to make it interesting.
