  1. I went camping in Shrewsbury whilst my wife was at a weekend agility competition up there. We got up at 4.30am on Good Friday, drove just over 2 hours to shropshire, we had the tent up by 10.30 and I was out caching from 11am. Then spent all day Saturday and Sunday caching drove back to Wiltshire and went caching Monday afternoon my haul for the weekend was 46 caches and only a couple of DNFs. Best ever weekend and greate weather.
  2. When my daughter comes caching with me she uses our Garmin Nuvi 300. We change it to Pedestrian Mode, Track Up and set WASS to on for extra sensitivity, she finds the caches every time with it. You can down load the Caches directly into it with child waypoints through GSAK. Unfound caches come in as a closed treasure chest, found ones are displayed as open treasure chests. Parking waypoints are displayed with a "P" Symbol and other waypoints as square dots. Obviously the only thing missing is a compass and maps and trails that's why Garmin don't say they are geocaching friendly.
  3. I use satmap and GSAK to go paperless caching - Satmap are working on a full geocaching interface at the moment.

  6. I use google reader to keep an eye on the forums I'm interested in but I have discovered today that not all posts appear in the RSS feeds, it seems that some do and some don't and what shows up is totally random. So if this is the case what is the point of the RSS feeds as it seems that I've been missing some posts. It could be only new topics that appear and not the subsequent replies. If this is the case I'd like to this changed. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  7. The way to I do it is to set the "From Origin" section by "by co-ordinates" and set the co-ordinates to be the centre point of the caches that I want to download. The I set the "within radius" to the distance that covers the caches I want. I will sometimes ue google earth using the Geocaching KML to help with this by using the placemark to give me the co-ordinates, then use the ruler to help guage the radius. This may help you in the interim.
  8. Not working for the last two days at least
  9. You should seriously consider a Satmap Active 10. It use 1:25k or 1:50k OS maps. the unit costs between £250 - £300 and you buy the OS maps separately. You can buy custom maps covering varying distances from a centre point that you choose, or you can buy counties, national parks or regions. I have had one of these units for 8 months and have been very happy with it. They have a stand and next weekends OS outdoor show at the Birmingham NEC.
  10. Please post the event cache details here if it gets approved.
  11. go for it - seems a missing that we don't have one planned for the UK. Make it easy to get to and people will surely come along
  12. I bought one off ebay to use as a micro - they are quality, they should replace all plastic containers - waterproof because they are used for matches.
  13. I've set it to record I'll be in the countryside caching - with any luck
  14. A quick way and quite simple way would be to use the free mapping function in google maps. Heres a quick guide. you will need a google login - sign up for google mail if you don't have it and you will need to download google earth - both free 1) set up a pocket query for your caches that you want to display on the map or just run your "finds" pocket query 2) Open the pocket query in google earth 3) Open your route file in google earth You will now have two "GPS Devise" folders in your temporary places folder 4) Drag the routes folder and drop it into the GPS Devise" folder containing your caches 5) Click on the GPS devise folder that now contains your routes and caches - it highlights in blue 6) On the menu bar at the top click save as and then select a location to save and give it a name as a .kmz file 7) Log in to google and go to maps 8) click on my maps 9) Click create a new map 10) give it a name and description 11) Click import 12) Click browse in the dialog box and find the .kmz file and click up load 13) Click save and done 14) Zoom to the view that you want 15) Click link (top right) 16) copy and past the html link into your website Hope this helps
  15. I use yahoo and I'm not getting owner emails at the moment
  16. I have had some logs against my caches several hours ago, but i've not had any emails sent = anyone with the same problem?
  17. Shame yiou can still only export as google file not gpx - unless I've missed it?
  18. Its a Satmap Active 10, a UK gps, it needs to be in a gpx file format but the log text needs to be within the description tags <desc> currently they appear in the xmlns:Groundspeak part of the export within </Groundspeak:log> tags. So I want to be able to extrac the log text and insert it at a point in between the <desc> and </desc> tags This is the macro I currently use #Combine Short Description, Long Description $Descriptions=" Details= " + $d_ShortDescription + " " + $d_LongDescription #Strip all HTML tags out of Descriptions $Descriptions=RegExReplace("</?[a-z][a-z0-9]*[^<>]*>", $Descriptions,"") #Strip carriage returns (ASCII 13) out of descriptions $Descriptions=Replace(chr(13)," ",$Descriptions, true) #Strip line feeds (ASCII 10) out of Descriptions $Descriptions=Replace(chr(10)," ",$Descriptions, true) #Strip ambiguous character out of Descriptions $Descriptions=Replace(" ","",$Descriptions, true) #Assign the result to the system variable "$_Special" for use by %macro $_Special=$Descriptions I think that I need to use $d_lText and in some way tell it to go the last log entry probably using goto and then get it to go through say the last 5 entrys to pull the text back and add it to $Descriptions If I append + " " +$d_lText to $Descriptions=" Details= " + $d_ShortDescription + " " + $d_LongDescription It only pulls back the very first log
  19. Does anyone know how I can generate the text from the last x number of logs in the cache description. I know I can use the "number of logs to include" drop down box but for some reason these don't appear in my gps so I think that I need to add in as a macro for it to appear in the description. I can't see a special tag.
  20. From all of The K9 Crew, we are sorry to hear about your loss.
  21. I guessed that may be the case - thanks
  22. Is there any way that I search for local cachers by thier home location?
  23. I did my first two on Dartmoor recently and if you do this one GC18HY6 then there is a letterbox about one pace away. In fact I found the letter box first. It is now too far from Meldon Resesvoir that has been mentioned.
