  1. i followed your instructions and i can't replicate the problem you're having I have the problem mentioned above. I especially see it when I have been on the site for a long time. I am at work and what I will do is go to an area where I may want to cache. and I will start looke at all the caches around. then i might move to another area and all of a sudden it showing me all caches as not found. This is even though I am logged on at the top of the page. alb
  2. Hi Not sure this has been reported but when you use the "zoom to address" option on the maps, the browser flicks as if moving but it just brings you back to your home location. i am using Firefox 3.6.12. Thanks, ToonAl

  4. Since the voice we have on the NUVI is named Emily I am guessing (as I can see from a previous post) there are a lot of Emily's out there. (Another question is why the British voice sound so polite.) Funny thing is our kids call the GPS Emily as well. If I take it out of the car..."Hey Dad where is Emily?" Once we changed the voice and all we heard was "Hey, who is this, we want Emily to come back." I will say Emily has to work on her pronunciation of some streets. Threw us the first time she told us to turn on "Yonja Street" alb
  5. Can anyone from the Falls area or anyone else explain why on Google Maps the satellite images of the Falls area in Canada at least are about 4 years old. I living in a suburb of Toronto and there are at least 3 images of my house in the last few years. But I go look at the Falls and Great Wold Lodge is under construction. I was there on the weekend and across the way is Gale Force geocache. It is next to a rec complex but there is nothing in the picture. I am trying to figure out from the Sat Map where i went wrong but it is years out of date.

    pathfinder coins

Can I ask, does anyone move pathfinder coins? I have to admit to leaving them when I find them. I have this sort of feeling, well the Groundspeak guys created the game and they do not charge (unless you become a Premium member) so why should I allow this other group to piggyback on their work. Can i get some others thoughts on this? BTW I am sure this has been discussed before but when I searched I could not find the Canadian perspective so I am posting here.
  7. You are in the heartland of geocaching right in the Glen Rouge Campground as the park that extends off there offers quite a few fun geocaches if you like to hike.
  8. I was geocaching today in a forest. The geocache read 2m distance from the cache with and accuracy of 10m. As I stood there in the rain up to my ankles in water I thought to myself, "Am I anywhere near the cache?" What does this all mean. And what is SOP in this case. I never did find it.

    Cool graphics

GSAK is Geocaching Swiss Army knife. A computer app you can download from here: http://gsak.net/ Helps track your finds amongst other things.

    Cool graphics

If you use GSAK then there are a bunch of stats programs out there that will generate them in HTML. You then take the source of the html and put it in your profile. PM me and I can help you more if you need. alb
  11. One to check out that is a good one in any weather is Ebey Bluffs. It is listed on the Northwest Classics bookmark list. Any of those on that list are good ones. Thanks I will head up here. It looks real interesting trip and will let me see other sights.
  12. Okay thanks for this advice. I will probably not go now since I saw pictures of the snow in a previous log and it seem like it was not that bad (ankle deep). I really wanted this unique cache but if you are talking storms and avalanche potential maybe I will find my joy elsewhere. It seems that the Seattle area might have one or two other caches I could do. Again thanks.
  13. What about Archived? Is that a type? I am looking to do that on Christmas so it does not block the rest of the year. Okay I was just asking.
  14. I will be in Seattle this coming Saturday for a conference. I am looking to go caching on Saturday and would like to try the APE cache (GC1169) on Saturday morning. I will have a small car so I can provide transportation. I was wondering if anyone is interested in accompanying me either from the area or also visiting. If you are in town for the SAS Global Forums conference even better. Please PM me and I will send you my email address.
  15. If you are in Toronto or Ottawa (or maybe other places) Le Baron (ggogle it) currently has the Oregon 450 for under $400. good GPS.
  16. Recently a colleague of mine joined the geocaching community. We challenge each other here and there. He asked me what my most in a day was as he was going on a numbers run and want to try and out do me. (My one day total is actually not that high.) The thing is that he was going with someone else whereas I generally cache by myself when I get high numbers. I have never been on a numbers run with someone else. (No this is no a plea for friends. ). I challenged him that since there were two of them they had to at least double my finds to really beat me. Here is the discussion I am trying to get started or question I am trying to get asked. Do you think more people help when on a numbers run? I recently saw these people get 400 in a day. But there was four of them. i realize there is still a time component that cannot be over come but when the more pairs of eyes looking often the faster the find. thoughts?
  17. My son and I were geocaching in a cemetery doing a "Restin'" . I saw someone driving out and whispered to my son that they were another cacher. When the woman drew up beside me I asked her if she had a family member buried in the cemetery. She looked flummoxed by the question so I then said "Did you find it?" At which point she laughed and said "Ya" and help us locate it. We then went and did a few others with her.
  18. My 9 year old suggests you pick it up and if it starts beeping then throw it as far away from you as you can.

    Paracord

have you checked the mec (mountain equipment coop) there is a store in halifax or online at mec.ca I am not sure they have paracord specifically but they do have various types of climbing ropes. Again I guess it depends on your specific application. alb

    Reesor Pioneers

Thanks for the information, I had actually been able to figure it out by going throigh someone`s logs and finding it. (I have been away for Christmas and unable to post an update). I am not sure I if I will post a find or not. I will work it out in my head over the next few days. Not sure if it is on the up and up. No matter a question between my id and my ego. Real question, should I put the containor back or should I use it somewhere elseÉ

    Reesor Pioneers

Back in September I was doing a cache run and one of the last of the days was Sixth Sanctum:Tower of Dreams. I sort of messed up the find because I did not see it was a multi and making a long story short I found a cache where there shouldn't have been one. At the time I signed my name and left it in place and came back to try and figure what I had found. Today I went back and grabbed the cache and brought it home. Now the cache has to very dirty logs and one very clean with three names (including mine) on it. Looking close at one of the dirty logs I can see the cache was called Reesor Pioners but I cannot see who owned it or why it has been archived. Any information would be great. Also I would be interested to know if there is a way to find out about archived logs. alb ps. Is there anyway I can log this find.
  23. It was a hotel. Sorry I should have made it clear that I do not think that it was the owner's intention to make me feel bad. I felt that on being asked if I had left any bugs and wondering if I should have. One other question I have about TB's is how you can know out in the field whether you are going to be able to help a Tb reach its goal. One TB I picked up said the TB "should walk from cache to cache." Well first I didn't read this till I got home and second I will not be near that cache again for many weeks and surely not within walking distance.
  24. I am sure this may have been answered in the Forums somewhere else but i) I am looking for the Canadian perspective and ii) I find the Forums Search to be wanting. Anyway my question deals with this scenario. You come upon a cache and it has multiple TB's in it. Do you take all the Tb's or do you just take a couple. The reason for the question is that I did this yesterday but now have been contacted by someone asking if I left any, which has left me feeling bad. The person did not accuse me of anything just asked if there were any left. My personal take is that I feel bad taking only a couple of TB's especially if I know I can scatter 5 or 6 easily. Also winter is fast approaching so I figure TB's are going to start to sit for a while. Anyways just looking to start a discussion. alb
  25. Maybe it "got lost" in the mail. Sorry couldn't resist.
