  1. I am in need of a geocacher who is willing to provide about five to six hours of time teaching people about geocaching and more importantly teaching them how to use a GPSr (Garmin Etrex). The date is this Friday from 7:30 am until approximately 1 pm. I believe lunch is also included. You will be working with myself and another volunteer with a group participating in a corporate team building exercise organized by Playtime, Inc. For your services, Playtime pays $50.00 in cash at the end of the program. You may cover a distance of about four miles but it is on fairly level ground, there are no hills involved. Please contact me A.S.A.P. through my email address bangel4228@msn.com if you are willing/able to help.

  3. Boy have you opened a can of worms! There are a few local cachers we refer to as SDCT. They are nuts, fun and sometimes cache at night to avoid the heat (14 mile hikes included). If you check out the forum for "San Diego cache events" and the "San Diego Thread" there are usually groups going out on a reqular basis. You are both welcome to join us at anytime. As far as "favorites", several people have their own bookmarked lists. Check out [Duncan!], [Miragee] and [Flagman]'s profiles for their favorites lists. Thant is a great way to start. Welcome to the neighborhood. bill/habu!
  4. But of course! I mean, after all, San Diego is one of the country's premier destinations for conventions of all sorts. Although this may not be a "Convention Center" type convention, it is definitely a "convention" and San Diego certainly has the facilities to host an event like this. I have all kinds of connections in the Hospitality Industry and with all the convention folks, so I can and will certainly help in any way I can. When's the first planning meeting? Do you need some help on the application to the Selection Committee? I have only ideas for the write up to the selection comittee. First and formost, we need a location. Dave (C4) suggested Lake Skinner for the actual event/picnic and I like the lake but I'm afraid that is too small for folks who want to camp, especially on Memorial Day week end. I have a list of items the selection people want addressed in the application. I will send it to you via email Tom.
  5. I'll throw my hat into the ring along with volunteering Caching Widow. I'm sure she could design a slick logo for coins and shirts. Let me know when our first committee meeting will be. Cheers, PassingWind We would of course help, but realistically..do we really need to find a place for 2500 people at one time? That sounds like a convention not a picnic. That's tough. Who funds this event? The event is "self funding" Attendees would cover any costs for camping or lodging. The sale of "t" shirts and coins add to the "kitty" for administrative costs. The tickets for a BBQ or eating event would pay for itsself as well. GW IV had a company cater the BBQ.
  6. O.K. Folks time for some serious San Diego Area Geocaching Discussions... The date is May 26th, 2007. The event is Geowoodstock V. There is a "location selection committee" so I would have to do a write up/application for San Diego to be chosen. If you want more details, I can email anyone the "checklist". We have to move quickly if we are going to submit a request fo it to be held in San Diego. THE BIG QUESTION: If Geowoodstock 5 were held in San Diego how much help and support would there be? The main support areas needed would be in 1. web page design/layout and management for the pages once the site is up and running. 2. Volunteers to help run the event. 3. Coordinate cache runs and things to do on the day of the event. There would need to be an awesome planning committee and reqular meetings to plan the [MEGA] event. VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT IS PARAMOUNT!! The expectation is that this event must be even better than the ones in the past so there are HUGE shoes to fill... The GW V event itself is only for one day so it could look and feel like a picnic (but for approx. 2500 + adults, kids and pets). Most people come to cache first. Socializing is a secondary priority but there are lots of impromptu parties in the evenings. Last years main venue was a campground where most of the activity was. But cachers went as far away as 10 to 20 miles to hit cache dense areas for the numbers. The next BIG question is: What location would work best overall for: (a. cache density) (b. cache friendly area) (c. camping and hotels located nearby for attendees). My first thought was Anza Borrego but that possses some logistic challenges. My second thought was Petco Park (yeah right)... Fiesta Island would be perfect if they allowed camping. The event is free so raising money thru "t" shirts and registration fees must cover all the financial requirements. There should be pre events like meet and greets, a historical cache run, BBQ, etc. and a CITO event the day after. There are rules and guidelines we must understand and follow but they aren't to restrictive. This could be awesome! (and a chance to get a lot of out of state swag!) HELP HELP HELP HELP
  7. Is that container BIG enough for little habu to fit in? I have a TB tag I would be happy to activate... But are you willing to wear a bag hat? (see link) Heck! I'd wear two to get to go to Duke's for their mud pie, Moose's for their fish tacos and see a sunset from the Shorebird!!!
  8. Why not have it in Vegas, in March? The location would be perfect for most everyone in the Southwest, including NV, AZ and Cali...and March wouldn't be too hot at all... Vegas would be a fine location also. Maybe we could get a "group rate" at one of the hotels. I would still like to be part of the planning whatever location is chosen. This is an awesome event and one that needs to continue!

  10. Contact Joe, get the requirements, and assemble and submit a bid. Good luck! Done sir!!
  11. I would seriously like to organize/coordinate the GW5 event either in San Diego/Southern California area, or even Las Vegas. There are dozens of locations to choose from. The only draw back about a Vegas location is the heat in the summer months... I have attended only one GW event, but I do course design for Playtime, Inc., and I have considerable experience as a project manager. I know I could get as much help as we needed from the caching community all over the Southwest. I can also draw from my caching contacts I have both across the US and in Germany. It would simply have to be the best Geowoodstock yet, or it would not be worth doing at all! habu!
  12. Hey! Congrats to The Dillon Gang!! They passed 1800 yesterday. They also passed thru Arizonia, Utah and Nevada to get it done...
  13. So kiss me and smile for me,Tell me that you'll wait for me, Hold me like you'll truly let me go. 'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane Don't know when I'll be back again - Oh Babe, I'd love to go ...AT LEAST HE GOT RID OF THE PINK BAGGIE HE WORE IN AN EARLIER POSE
  14. Hey! LLOT passed 1400 on Iron Mountain. WTG Y'all!!
  15. I don't know how many people read this stuff, but I think it is kind of cool. This is one of the projects I did/will be doing for Playtime, Inc... Hey, it's the bigkid of PLAYTIME Inc. and geoteaming. I wanted to let people know that we're working on a 50 cache course (newbie to expert caches) that has amazing prizes (there's a 3 day/2 night stay, dinners, cruises, serious prizes!) and most of all, it's FREE! We were contracted by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and they wanted to create one of the largest geocaching contests during their celebration, so they agreed to make it FREE to allow anyone to participate. Especially newbie friendly, we'll even have 150 GPS receivers on hand for FREE rental (have to let us imprint a credit card in case you decide you really like it) during the weekend, with personal instruction on how to use it. There's paddleboat races, 5k runs, art walks, live bands, and even Kool and the Gang, go figure! It should be an awesome weekend of caching. For more info, check out http://www.geoteaming.com/contests.html and/or the event page for "Opening Day at the Lake 2006". Hope to see you there, I'll be hanging out at Harrah's in Mission Control.... -bigkid
  16. It won't do you much good on the coffee table! It belongs on the hood of a jeep where it can be read in the appropriate locations!!!!
  17. Please don't use the words "cleared out" especially in or around MTRP it will just cause more caches to be activated!!
  18. Beware! He will have you drinking out of the toilet or worse will serve you MGD! and I was gonna bring Warsteiner
  19. Can you re-fresh my memory? 4:30 at IronMt trail head on Thursday? Will you go by Barbados Sam's new ones? Maybe I can talk John into it. ...via PAPER or PALM
  20. Thanks for sharing the pictures. It sounds like a fun time. How did you hook up with CCooperAgency and the Germans (Just Curious)? RM RM, I wish I could say it was my good looks but... I go caching with the German fellows in Germany when I go over there to work. Lynn was part of that team when they attempted (successfully) to set a new record for caches found in a 24 hour period. It was just lucky for me that she was along the same days I went with my German friends. She rode with me for most of Sunday when we were in the DFW area. They continued their caching excursions to San Antonio, Houston and on to Mexico after we left Geowoodstock.
  21. Just an FYI... Hanseatic League (German Hanse), Commercial alliance of German merchants and cities, active from the mid-12th century to the mid-17th century. At its peak in the mid-15th century, the league comprised at least 80 cities and another 100 or so affiliated towns, and it monopolized all trade in the North and Baltic seas. It grew to be the largest and most successful trade association in medieval Europe in terms of both volume of trade and profit before succumbing to the growing economic might of states such as England and the Netherlands.
  22. Thought I would share a picture or two from Geowoodstock IV in Texas. Holding the SDCT Banner is (left to right) The Cablespots from Florida, m.zielinski from Germany, I can't remember the couple in the middle, the grey haired fella is spuchtfink from Germany, CCCooperAgency from Pensylvania (top cacher in the world with 15,000 + caches found) is the one holding the banner on the left, and Mrs. Captain Picard from Texas and GeoPirat from Germany are the ones holding the banner on the right. Roland (Darth Maul 3 is my caching buddy from Germany standing to my left. We signed the logs as HCT (Hanseatic Cache Team). We had four vehicles in our posse and hit several cache dense areas of Dallas on two different days of caching. None of the Germany guys had ever been off-highway so they were a bit tense the first few times I took them right to a cache (withing 10 feet). Now they all want jeeps! I wonder what anybody that might have heard the radio conversations was thinking hearing German on the local FSR frequencies. I was able to find real German beer so our "happy hours" were a hit with the Germans. They don't like our American beer. They say it tastes like camel p***. I almost have to admit I agree, although I have never done a true comparison... CCCooperAgency didn't even carry a GPS unit on Sunday and she still found the containers quicker than those of us that had the GPS units on several occasions. If you were to add up the total caches from all of us it would be over 27,000 caches found (that includes my meager 1000 contribution). The middle picture is of Lynn (CCCooperAgency) and I with a TB that is going back to Germany with Darth Maul 3. The third pic is at the Cedar Creek Campground with the Texas Geocacher banner Mrs. Captain Picard and a friendly Texas Geocacher (permission not obtained to release his name). The fellows from Germany and CCCooperAgency set a new record for 314 finds in a 24 hour period two days before this picture was taken. The old record was something like 268 in 24 hours. THANKS TOM!!!
  23. Miragee hit 1600!! Yippie for Miragee!!!!!
  24. Thanks for noticing! I attended the Mega Event Geowoodstock and spent one day with some friends of mine from Germany (who set a new record for most caches in a 24 hour period at 314) and had the pleasure of having CCCooperAgency (15,000 + finds #1 cacher in the world) ride along with us for one day. Lynn was a great teammate. One can't help but find a few caches with that posse!! If you combined all our caches it was something like 26,000 caches found between us. I still haven't logged all my finds from Texas either... bill/habu!
