  1. Thought you all might like to hear about the High-Tech Easter Egg Hunt in the FlagMan family. The in-laws invited the whole clan over for Easter brunch and asked me if maybe I could devise some entertainment for the kids who are all getting a bit too old (the youngest was still in elementary school and the oldest is in 9th grade) for the traditional Easter egg hunt. So I hid 20-altoids tin "eggs" around the neighborhood from Fairbrook to Semillon and south of Pomerado and put the coords into some eTrex's that Habu! let me borrow. I gave them all a Google Earth map with the coords marked and sent them on this 2-1/2 hour hunt that took them around various neighborhoods and through several trails. We broke the six kids into two teams and send each team in a different direction. Inside each "egg" was a FTF ticket (with money ranging from $.25 go $1.00), a STF ticket and a 3TF ticket (which we didn't need because there ended up being only 2-teams). They had a total blast. Once they got over the frustration of finding the first "egg" magnetically attached to an electric box ("that's was really hard, Uncle Tom!"), they were off and running. The two teams actually met at the exact middle of the course, and each team ended up with 10-FTF tickets (a tie). So we changed the game so that the winner would be the first team to return to the house. Believe it or not, both teams burst into the house from different doors at exactly the same time! We had to call it a draw. There was much wailing and moaning and gnashing of teeth at various spots where the "eggs" were hidden "haqre n ebpx" or "va n ohfu" but both teams ended up finding them all eventually. I know I had a blast with it, and the kids are now all demanding that we do it every year. Personally, I think we should make the adults do it next year...

Seems like I've seen something like this done before. We could call it Geoteaming but I think the name has already been taken...:):D

  2. jahoadi and john went over 7500 caches! They rock!!! Look at their stats sometime! They are amazing!

Maybe for Jahodi sea duty wouldn't be such a bad deal. At least then she'd get to drive the CRUSER and get some off-road caches! :D:D:blink:

    HEY!

  6. I actually found caches in 2001 with my friend Travis (XSnoopy), but did not become "official" and registered until 2002. My first solo cache finds as a registered cacher were on Feb 9, 2002. So it will be 6 years in February. Lately, I've just been finding benchmarks. In fact I have a backlog. I guess I got burned out on all the Altoids tins under the light skirts. Now I'll only look if I'm hiking and want something to do along the way. Parsa
Congrats on 6 years! I quit logging LPCs too. However when I was in Vegas, Flagman kept signing my name in those dang things... :P

We tried to make him look under the skirt, but you know what kind of guy TG has become...
You're right FM, those single-legged skirts just don't do it for me anymore, but I've never grown tired of the two-legged variety... :P

Who's an old timer? My first find was in August of 2001 at Lake Miramar. It took me three years to find my first hundred. I've already found more than that this month (153 so far). And yes, some of them have been lampposts

Anyway did you know the reason people started putting table covers over tables is because women thought the sight of the table legs got men sexually aroused?

Harmon can probably still remember that huh, Harmon?:blink::lol:

  7. :anicute: Jodi, please help me... This is Thumper. I'm being held hostage. Don't let him hurt me please.

    Is this an inside joke?

John...if you harm one hair on his head you are DEAD!!! No Pat..it's not a joke..he was having me teach him how to load pictures into the forums and I got suckered into giving him directions via the phone. Remember he is not paperless or very computer savvy.

Hey John! Send me the bunny I'll "take care of it".

  8. Looks like Geocaching as we know it in Anza Borrego Desert State Park is gone. The following log was placed on the upcoming "Squeeze" event cache page.

    BUMMER!

    By order of the:

    Superintendent

    Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    Colorado Desert District

    EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Numerous geocaches have been placed within the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park without authorization. No consideration was given to resource sensitivity in the placement of any of these geocaches, and many have been discovered in very sensitive locales. Caches have been removed from archeological sites, paleontological areas, bighorn sheep watering sites and in sensitive caves.

All physical geocaches placed within Anza-Borrego Desert State Park must be removed. If the cache owner does not take responsibility for removing his/her own cache, it will be removed for them and it will not be returned.

As of this date, December 21, 2007, placement of new physical caches will be prohibited in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Virtual Earth Caches will be considered on a case by case basis and must be approved before being

    published on the Geocaching.com website.

Contact information for Earth cache approval:

    Mark C. Jorgensen

    Superintendent

    Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    200 Palm Canyon Drive

    Borrego Springs, CA 92004

It was fun while it lasted...

How about if we just made all the caches in ABSP puzzles. If the rangers wanted to remove 'em, at least they would have something to do with their time...

  9. Just a few final things for our Squeezed adventure on Saturday..........GC17z5a

Don't forget your lunch, drinks, and munchies for the day. Bring along a chair if you want to sit on something besides a rock or cactus.

We decided that we would skip breakfast in the morning and just head out to the Pinion Mtn. turnoff. We will be there by 8:45 or a little earlier, and leave PROMPTLY AT 9:00 ! If you show up later than 9:00, you can probably catch us at the Squeeze, follow the coords for GCH3XT, The Squeeze by the Slabyfam.

It has been chilly in the dez, especially getting cold in the late afternoon, so don't forget your jackets, or whatever, so you will stay warm.

The BBQ is at Skillets and hopefully we will all be there by 3:00 if all goes well.

We will pick up hamburgers and hotdogs tomorrow, plus a few something or others for everybody.

Jodi is bringing some dessert for everyone, which is a treat, because she knows how to do dessert!

Can't think of anything else. Shoot us an e-mail or post something on the cache page is you have any questions, or can't make it.

See you all on Sat. morning!

    The Splashes B)

If anyone wants to show up early and help set things up for the BBQ your more then welcome. 0002017A.gif

I'll be bringing paper plates, napkins, and a small supply of forks, knives, spoons ketchup, mayo and mustard. If BRBH doesn't find them there'll be some cookies too! If it all stays in the jeep, it'll be at the BBQ...

  10. I want to wish EACH and Every Geocacher in San Diego (and Orange County, and Riverside County and even one in Yuma and just one in Colorado...) a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! I hope Santa brings you all great swag! (if not there's always REI).

  12. Mark this on your calendars for the afternoon of Sunday January 6th.

Tenatively this will be held in Sunset Park. They aren't taking reservations for 2008 yet, but they are collecting applications. There are a couple alternate sites nearby if we need to relocate.

This is also a registration day for those that plan on attending CES in Vega$. If you are coming to town, feel free to stop by.

...er what's CES? Is that some weather acronynmnmnnm that us peons wouldn't understand???? It probably won't matter 'weather/hither/thither I attend or not anyways... :):(:D

{poor little habu! he doesn't have a clue)

  13. Time for a road trip! Let's all go to Vegas for this event...

I've already RSVP'ed and I heard somewhere that Marko Ramius might even be there, so you won't want to miss it! The REAL mucky mucks from the Lily Pond are coming down, so here's your chance to put in your $.02 on changing those silly Guidelines (wouldn't you just LOVE to really BURY a cache some day?!?)...

    Cross-referencing this thread...

I'm already down for the event. How about a road trip? There are a lot of caches along the way. I even remember a "Splash" of caches along the way...
