  1. Well, my topic sure got turned for a loop there. Anyone additonal care to address the actual start of this thread. It seems that poor bubba struck a nerve and threw everyone off a bit.
  2. Hello all, well we finally ordered our first gps. We found a new Garmin Legend on e-bay, including the Mapsoure Metroguide software. I was able to get this for $152.00. That seemed pretty good to me, as long as it all works. My question is, do you have any ideas on accessories that I am going to need to pick up? I know I will want a carrying case and the training video. Is there anything beyond that I will need? I am obviously new to this and would appreciate any advice. The main thing we will be doing with this unit is trying geocaching since it would not work too well as an auto gps. Furthermore, once we get it, how do we started with the caching? Thanks for the help.

  4. Thanks for all the help everybody. Especially to you, Mr. Lipe. Your site has really helped with narrowing the field and understanding the differences. I think I am leaning toward the Platinum because the compass seems like it would be helpful for geocaching. Since we are also going to use autorouting for trips, does the Platinum screen seem to work alright while driving? Thanks again for the replies.
  5. Hello again all, Just when I thought my mind was made up for my first GPS purchase. Was looking around the net for prices on Platinum's. Found a package deal for the Meridian Color that will cost exactly the same as the Platinum package. So, the question to all you experienced users is... Which one? As I understand it, the main difference is the color HAS color but does not have the electric compass. Am I missing anything? From what I have been reading, you would still want a hand held compass even with the Platinum. And since we will be doing some Autoroute things with the GPS, the color seems to be an advantage. I would really appreciate any feedback one way or the other. Thanks for the help. Scott Y
  6. I am new to this, so I do not pretend to know what the heck I am talking about, but... It appears that the 60c and 60cs do not have expandable memory slots like the Magellan's do. I don't understand that. To be honest, we were looking at strickly buying Garmin. But the expandable memory seems like it could really come in handy down the road. That was the biggest selling point of the Magellan to me. I have waited to purchase though because I was hoping the 60c and 60cs would have this option. From what I read, they don't. I could be wrong though. Anyone know if I am?
  7. I can get the Meridian Gold for $239.00. The Meridian Platinum for $260.00. The only real difference I can see is the digital compass on the platinum. Do either of you think it is worth the extra $20.00 to go for the Platinum? Thanks for the help
  8. Hello All, Let me start by saying I am really excited about finding this site. My family and I are avid pop up campers and we first heard about geocaching through the Pop Up Times website (very similar to this one). It really sounds like a great thing to do when we are out camping with the kids. I have begun the painstaking process of researching what is available. I think I have narrowed my choices down to 3 possibilities; 1) Magelllan Meridian Gold (like the sd memory slot, larger screen, and electric compass) 2) Garmin Legend (seems like a good unit all in all, but not sure if 8mb is enough memory) 3) Garmin Vista( like the 24mb, but can't use sd cards. Will I need sd cards with 24mb? Also like the compass) I feel like my brain is about to turn into geographical mush . To me everything looks good, but I don't really know what I need in the first place. It is only because of this site that I have narrowed it down this much. The GPS will mainly be used for geocaching and trip planning for the camping trips. I would greatly appreciate any and all input and guidence from you all. I am so excited about trying this, but I don't want to rush in and buy the wrong unit. Please help
