  1. If i remember right, when i would select a GOTO with the older software, i would get the GOTO line, (the old style bold black line) and the little default crosshairs would appear on the waypoint. Now it seems, with the new software, 5.0, when i select a GOTO, the new little dashed line appears, but there is no crosshairs on the waypoint like it used to have. I can make it appear manually by checking the waypoint visibility box and then saving it, but that is kind of annoying. Am i missing something? I liked this aspect of the old software, and it doesnt seem to be there anymore. Thanks!
  2. Sept1c tank, thats cool that there is a record of that! I'm a very new cacher, a member here since November 30, 2003. I am proud to say that i already have 37 finds. I started doing this right before my winter vacation here at college, and its been a blast. I have gone by myself a lot, when i cant drag my girlfriend with me. It has definately made an impact on my life in that i have found all of these amazing places around where i live that i didnt know existed. It's definitely gotten me out of the house much more and has made me start hiking again. Overall its been a blast! Yay Geocaching!
  3. I heard about it on some outdoor channel a while back. (i guess TV is good for something!) I thought it sounded cool at the time, but didnt give it much more thought, and then forgot about it. A few weeks ago, i remembered about it, and searched on the web. I ordered a GPSr that night, and its been great since! I told my friend about it 2 days ago, and we went out hunting for stuff. He is hooked now, and just ordered a MeriPlat.
  4. Umm.. I dont think there is such thing as a Meridian Sportrak Color. There is the Sportrac Color, and the Meridian Color. You should either get the Meridian Color, or the Meridian Platinum. I recommend the Meridian Platinum.
  5. I have a question kind of related to this. If i remember right, when i would select a GOTO with the old software, i would get the GOTO line, and the little defaul crosshairs would appear on the waypoint. Now it seems, with the new software, 5.0, when i select a GOTO, the little dashed line appears, but there is no crosshairs on the waypoint like it used to have. I can make it appear manually by doing what 4x4van said, go check the visibility box and then save it, but that is kind of annoying. Am i missing something? I liked this aspect of the old software, and it doesnt seem to be there anymore. THanks!
  6. I was curious if the difference between the 2meg basemap on the sportrac map and the 9meg basemap on the sportrac pro is that the pro's basemap is more detailed. Do they both only cover North America? But the pro's basemap has more roads and poi's? Also, is this the only difference between the two besides the overall bigger memory in the pro? When i compare the two on the magellan website, that seems to be the only overall difference. Also, i guess the pro can use software that the map cant. Is there anything else i am overlooking? If someone didnt really need extensive road maps, and wasnt planning on buying software, are they the same? THank you very much!
  7. Hell yeah. I think thats cool as hell.
  8. WalruZ: It's sorta too bad they aren't approved anymore. I guess thats what i'm trying to say. There are problems with everything. Right now, a cache in my area has a tb listed, but its not in the cache. This seems to happen pretty often with tbs. I also think its too bad that they wont really approve them anymore. Many people go looking for tbs, and when they get there, its not inside. Overall, it just seems like a neat idea, with not too many problems. BRING THE TRAVELING CACHE BACK! i doubt thats going to change anything. but anyways. its too bad...
  9. THe concept would work fine as a traveling cache if the cache was only allowed to be inside of other caches. Look at the old traveling cache "Red Ryder". Its still going strong today.
  10. I don't see how you can expect people to read the travel bug's web page before they grab it. Many times i have been to a cache, with no travel bugs listed, and then there is one in there. I dont want to just leave it, and go check the web page, because i know i probably wont be back. So, i take it, and then check the web page. If your TB has very specific instructions, i think i should be mandatory to have a little tag, unless you really dont care where it goes. And when you say "another one of my ground-traveling bugs is almost DONE due to flying." What do you mean done? Maybe you should make its goals a little harder.
  11. wow. i didnt even know they were allowed once. Im a new cacher. how would i go about getting approval? I would submit a cache page, and state that it has the travel bug attached? I guess if they wont approve it, ill just make a bug with a container attached anyways, for people to trade stuff. An unofficial travelbug cache.
  12. I just got a travel bug, and i am having a hard time deciding what to put on it. Is it possible to make a "traveling cache bug"? I was thinking of attaching a small container to the bug, with a log book and everything. Would www.geocaching.com list my cache as a real cache? The cache would be trackable because of the travel bug attached, but people would also get credit for the find. Has this been done already? if so, i would love a link to it. Anyways, i think this would be a cool idea. Any other info? Thanks!
  13. I havent dont that one yet, but i live less than .10 miles from the first waypoint of that multucache. maybe ill have to check it out!
  14. I think it was here in these forums, that i saw a closeup picture of a gps with a speed of 500 something mph, and an altitude of around 30,000 ft. The poster mentioned something about that there should be a 500 mph cache, and i thought there was a link to an actual cache page, but im not sure. I have searched around for it, on the "hide and seek" link, and here in the forums, but i cant find it anywhere. Any help? THanks!
  15. thats the coolest tat ever. A coupla people i know that Paintball competitively have paintball "splats" on their arms. I have a design a little bit similar to cholo's avatar on my right wrist. Ive had it a few years. Whenever i think about regretting it, i always think, what the hell, its not like its a swastika. i like tatoos. []
  16. magellan makes one for the sportracs. works great.
  17. i use the sportrac map, which is essentially a basic, with added basemap. i love it. it works great
  18. i usually always cache alone. its fun!
  19. I have a sportrac map, and i like it a lot. The legend's are definately a lot smaller, and i think they look great, but i have never used one so i cant really comment. The sportrac map's reception seems great to me. With the newer firmware installed, it seems to get better and faster reception than when i first got it. Over all it is fast and pretty easy to use once you get used to it. The directional pad works great, and all the buttoms so far have been very responsive and easy to use. The sportrac map is a little bigger than the garmin, but its not too big to be a problem. Its lightweight enough, and i have had a great time using it with great success to find caches.
  20. I also don't really understand what the big deal is. I don't see the problem if other cachers know what your first name is. As long as no home address or home phone number was released, (or CC number) the rest is usually public information. My real name is "Ori". There. ive breached my own information. I hope i dont get stalked, or killed.
  21. Just as a side note, i would be stoked to find an 8-track in a cache. especially one of Pink FLoyd's great albums. I probably wouldnt ever have a chance to play it, but it's definately one of those great hard to find items that would end up in a "cool stuff" box or something. Anyways, dont take it out!
  22. Thank god for people like RobertM. I hope EVERYONE does exactly what he does. This is a game that is ruled by the people. I think we can make our own rules. I agree that this game that we all play and love should be fun and safe for everyone, but as long as we arent putting butterfly knives and switchblades in the caches, i think we'll all be alright. Caching seems to go hand in hand with hiking, and camping, and all those other great "boyscout" activities. If the boy scouts is handing out knives to little kids, i dont see the harm in placing a great item (leatherman) in a cache. I know it would be a great change to the usual plastic "treasures" i find in them. I'm always stoked on the flashlight, or compass, or other useful item i find in a cache, and its great when people actually put some effort (and some money) into their cache items. Maybe someone should start the "www.adultgeocaching.com" organization, so we could trade, little bottles of Jack Daniel's, multitools, and maybe some naked girl playing cards! Anyways, until then, i'll keep getting excited about the hunt and the find, and not so much about the goodies.
  23. ah i see. not too sure about that. i know "owndership" will change, but as for accesss to the description, goal, etc. im not sure about that part. Someone knows im sure though...
  24. just stick them in a cache, and log them saying that you placed them in "so and so" cache. You dont have to acquire anything that way. Or, if you dont want to do that, i think you can place them in the "Travel Bug Graveyard" and then have another user "pick them up" from there. But, they wouldnt actually have them in their hand, unless you were close to them and gave it to them.
