  1. Of course caching is about the GPS use. And your boating example is a perfect example to show how a compass can be very helpful, and even a necessity. I don't want to use a paper map or a real compass. I know I would probably get nowhere near the cache area. I do carry a real compass, but have yet to neet to use it. That's all!
  2. While I do agree with you JPlus, I have been in the same situation, and didn't really feel the desire to have a compass. It seems, that even if you are in the middle of briars, you had to get into the middle of them somehow. You came from some sort of direction, and while you were moving, the GPS pointed you in the right direction. You can pretty much just keep going straight in that direction. It's a neat plus to have a compass, and I think they can be very helpful, but so far, (and I use my GPS quite often) I really haven't seen the need at all to have a compass. If I was spun round and round, with my eyes closed, and was then told to go towards the cache, then I would want a compass!
  3. Hmm... That's odd... All mine look like ammo cans... Cool cache camo containers are the best!
  4. Did someone say psylocibin? Oh wait...
  5. What seems to matter more is how good a fix you have. You really don't have to wait a certain time at all. It you are getting a good signal, take your numbers, use 'em, and they should be just fine.
  6. Man, Captain. If I had the cash, I would be all over that. I need a laptop!
  7. I think that sounds like a decent idea. Though, I like my MeriGold also...
  8. I see. When I save my tracks to Mapsend, they save as .trk files. The only choice that I saw from GPSBabel, which I guess isnt supported anyway, was a .tpg file.
  9. Well... Unfortunately, it seems like it will be a bit more. On the RedSky website, it says: So, it seems it will be 250 when it comes out. That's pretty expensive.
  10. I did find it a little strange though, that you new about my paintballgun, (singular, just so you know) and my "XBox" (close enough, and singular also). I haven't been talking about those things that much at all. The MeriGold comment, I understand. Sometimes when I am writing a reccomendation for it, I feel like I've done it a thousand times before. But, when people ask, I gotta tell 'em! Anyhow, good luck with everything.
  11. Oh yeah. Sorry. I'm using windows 2000, I think. I didn't know there was a GPSBabel mailing list either. It's cool. Thanks anyway.
  12. Just to add, and I'm glad this isn't escalating any further, I had no idea that you were trying to sell these things when I posted my comment about the outrageous price. You didn't say in your initial post that you were selling them, so I thought you were just telling us that you made them, and that they were cool. I thought you were using the link to the web site to show us what they were. I wouldn't have said "20 bucks! that's crazy!" because I wouldn't have wanted to cause trouble for you. I probably would have mentioned that I thought the price was a little steep. Either way. Glad you sold one.
  13. Ah. I see. You were actually the person I was hoping would see this thread. The menu I mean is the drop-down menu, that displays what you wanted the tracks to be converted too. At first it didn't show up, but then it did, so I figured GPSBabel would support it. It's a shame that NG doesn't cooperate. Either way, I found another way around it, so, no worries. Thanks.
  14. dadgum... Seriously... I didn't expect that. I actually don't have an XBox. They were too expensive for me. Seriously. I bought a GameCube because it was half the price. Being a college student, I don't have a lot of extra cash lying around. Especially not to spend 20 bucks on a screw with the insides drilled out. About the Meridian Gold comment, when people inquire about a GPS unit, I tell them my opinion, in hoping that I will steer them in a good direction. I tell them that it is the best unit for the money. But, I'm sure you already know all this... for the 1172nd time. So, not ever being one to judge people on their looks, I will base my opinion of you on your comment to me. It was completely out of line, and extremely rude. I made a comment, about the outrageous price of something, and you seemed to take it very personally. I think those screws for cache containers are awesome. I would love to use one, but I have neither the means, nor the cash to pay for one, if they are going to cost 20 dollars each. So, even though I would rather not make a "jab" back at you, I feel that I must, because of the unfair jab from you. Don't call me "son". I am not your son. Thank God. Judging from the pictures in your profile, I would hate to imagine how I would look, if I was. I come from a loving family. Not one that can express so much hate towards another person, for no reason at all. I would hope that someone your age would have learned how to be a compassionate and tolerant person, but apparently, that is not the case. Take care.
  15. It's about time huh?! RK has it right. I don't have one, and I don't miss it. If I had one, I would probably use it. There ya go.
  16. I have no idea. I don't see why there would be a problem. I'm all for sales competition in the forums.
  17. Just to help out, I have the Gold Traveller pack and I love it. The Gold is a great unit, and all the things the traveller pack comes with are definitely necessities. They are great to have, and everything works well. I would definitely buy it all over again if I had too.
  18. The idea of an electronic built-in compass can be somewhat misleading to new people, in my opinion. Both units will point you to the cache, but a noncompass unit will need you to be moving. To remedy the need for "moving", you can take a step or two, in a certain direction. It's such an easy remedy, that I hardly think paying a decent amount extra is worth it. I have a Meridian Gold, with no compass, and I never have any problems, or wish I had one. I have used a unit with a compass, and while it was neat, it wasn't so amazing. The extra memory may be worth it though. If you plan on using detail maps, you may run out of the 8 megs quite fast, depending on your travel.
  19. Nothing like looking at a great view thru the eyes of your gameboy...
  20. The click stick drives me nuts. Not to mention people have had problems with them breaking.
