Wait, they will gladly WARRANTY replace your software? Is there a warranty on it, and if it is over, i guess we are $hit outta luck? That sucks too, because what if the disk becomes unusable eventually because of slow wear and tear? It is fairly good news, but I would feel safer with my own copy... Oh well...

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. you can set the backlight timer to turn the light off pretty fast, but then the first time you press a button, the light turns back on, and you don't even know it. I won't be able to go back to 4. whatever firmware, because the Meridian needs the newest one to run Direct Route. Dammit!

Yeah, I just ordered it from GPS store. It added around 8 bucks for shipping. For a 15 dollar item...

When I was talking about a backup disk, I actually meant a backup disk. I said that it would be cool to copy it for you friends, but apparently that is imposibble. I was genuinly concerned about ruining my disk, if it is going to get a lot of use. Then dustyjacket said that Magellan would probably send me another one. I hadn't thought of that, and that would be a good enough remedy. Anyways, I just don't want to go down in my closed thread of being the person who was trying to figure out how to rip off a great company. Thank you.

It doesn't drain it at an insane rate or anything, but it definitely makes a significant difference from what I have seen. I haven't done any experiments either, but I find that when I do night caching, I notice that my batteries last a significantly shorter time. This is right out of the manual: "The backlight causes severe drain on the batteries in the SporTrak." Apparently, it's significant enough to warrant the term "severe".

The rebates usually always seem to come. They do tend to make you wait, and try to get out of sending you the rebate, but if you persisit, they will send it. I mean, it is 50 bucks!

It would be cool to be able to burn copies for friends of Direct Route, but apparently that is completely impossible. Is there anyway to make an actual BACKUP of the disk, only to actually be used for backup purposes? I have heard talk on the Yahoo Magellan Meridian group about a patch or something, but there is not really any complete info. Any computer savvy people out here? For a program that costs a decent amount of cash, I would hate to ruin a copy of the CD and be forced to buy another one. Thanks.

There are many threads about this. I would suggest a Magellan SporTrak or SporTrak Map. Some others are Garmin eTrex's which are very popular. There are many urban cache around. I like them a lot when I dont feel like going on a hike.

I have searched the threads and I can't find it anywhere. I know there is a web site that offers carrying cases for the Meridians with a clear window, and a little button clip on the back like the sportraks have. Anyone know where it is? Thanks!

Yeah, why not? I figured you all would tell me to buy it. I just wanted some more justification to spend money I dont really have. Now I can say, "all the people on the Groundspeak forums say I should get it". I did in fact order it a couple hours ago. Thanks everyone!

Thats completely retarded. I'm glad the traveler pack comes with the cigarette adapter thingie. They need to release a patch just to fix that. I think that's enough of a problem to deserve some attention.

I think we should start a mailbox stuffing campaign. I would really like to use the alarms, but I don't for fear that I will forget about the backlight turning on. I use my GPS much more during the day than at night anyways, so whats the point. EVERYONE EMAIL MAGELLAN! ALso, does this occur with the Meridian Gold's? I just ordered one...
