  1. is that it is it worth the extra money? After some caching I was doing yesterday on my 60Cx , I think it's worth the extra money to have an electronic compass. The Barometer, not so much.
  2. I think the people behind geocaching bot have made a modification that either blocks certain clients or anything with the http://coord.info links. that or 3 people have been block that have been spamming geocachingbot today.
  3. Could you make a small modification to the post to twitter option to add a #geocache hash tag to the end of the tweet? This would make it easier to find other cachers and all that fun stuff
  4. Myself I'm a 6Cx / iPhone cacher, I love the 60, it's fantastic, I wish I knew about the CSx when I bought it though Anyway, logging my notes right as I am at the cache with the geocaching.com app is fantastic. I have a palm with cachemate that I update maybe once a month now. I rarely use it as I am almost always in cell range. Sometimes I would like the Oregon's paperless all in one feature with weather proofing and all because there's no way I'm pulling out my iphone in rain/drizzle or walking down a muddy slope. My suggestion is if you're happy with the 60CSx, keep on using it with the iPhone and cachemate as your backup. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, get the Oregon
  5. I have tried the Oregon, and I have to agree it is AWESOME . My next purchase will be that unit for sure. I did meet someone that had a PN-40 while it was very orange, very very orange, it seemed to lose it's satellite lock quite often, and in canada, the maps were completely useless. From what it looks like, anywhere outside the USA it's useless.
  6. In my honest opinion, you should buy a proper handheld GPS and leave the phone in your backpack protected in a ziploc bag or a lock n lock box. I have the iphone and it's fantastic for gps, but when I nearly dunked my phone while caching, I thought about it and opted to buy a garmin gps unit. For one, it's cheaper to replace a GPS unit than a contracted subsidized phone. It's waterproof and can take a beating, so most likely you won't have to replace it. Geocaching in the woods is near impossible with a phone, all of them have weak GPS' that are great for city/suburbs, but once you get cover, it's bad. like 40 meter accuracy bad.\, as opposed to the garmin in cover gets 6m accuracy. just food for thought.
  7. I'm working on some pocket queries to get the most bang for my buck. I'm wondering how you more experienced cachers do it. So far I have a 75 Kilometer radius and only for Ontario (I live right beside Quebec). I have 4 queries running (mon, weds, Fri)one for Multi caches with a difficulty of 1.5 or less (Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun)Multi 2.0 or greater (mon, weds, Fri)traditional 1.5 or less (Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun)traditional 2 or greater then I have a "other" with gets all the earth, letterbox etc caches. that runs Mon and Fri so is this overkill? and how should I best manage my queries? What I want is a query or 5 to give me the most coverage so that when I'm driving around, I can pick and choose one, if I happen to drive by.
  8. After a few weeks of caching, I've made the leap and paid for membership. I never thought I would, but this sport is just so great that I felt like supporting the cause. Also the benefits of Pocket Queries makes it totally worth it. I hope that after a year I still love the sport as much ! P.S. I think i'm addicted to reading these forums.
  9. The iPhone 3G is what got me hooked on geocaching, but now that I'm going on harder caches where there is mud and rocks, the iPhone is just far too valuable to risk getting wet or damaged in any way. I had a close call saturday when I got some wet wet mud right near my iphone pocket and nearly freaked out. So on the weekend I got a waterproof Garmin 60Cx for caching. and a water tight sealed and heavily padded box to put the iphone in for emergency use only.
