    Tb Ideas

Heres my idea: Its a 2 bug combination game. Bug #1: "Mystery Box" -get a latching box like 3 inch x 3 inch - something small, and place money or trinkets inside it. Then (the box must have a padlock hole) lock it with a padlock, or masterlock type lock. Attach the tag and set loose near your home. Bug #2: "Key to the Mystery Box" Its the key to the padlock, with its own tag. Set this loose on the other side of the country, while on vacation or something. On each TB's page, have a description of the mission and a link to the other bug's page. Mission is to look where the other bug is, and move each one toward the other. Eventually, they should meet up somewhere close to each other, where a lucky cacher can grab both, and open the box, getting the reward. Then, have them refill it, and re-release each piece far apart to see them come together again. You just have to stress not cheating by holding on to one part for a long time, or cutting the lock, etc. It would be fun to see them getting closer together. Like one piece in San Diego, and the other start in Maine, and end up a year later in Oklahoma City, where someone finally opens the treasure. Lt.Dan
  2. This wasnt a geocaching trip, but on another occasion, i was playing paintball in the woods with my friends. I crawled underneath a hemlock tree, and glanced overhead, and to my frightful horror, there was a giant skull hanging in the tree. I then looked around and there were 2 or 3 more, hanging in similar trees, arounf a 30 to 40 foot area. They looked to be a pig or bear skull, or maybe a very large dog. It was a massive head, about large watermelon sized with very large powerful jaws and pretty massive teeth and canines. They had wire wrapped thru the jaw and nostrils and were hanging, tied to limbs, about 5 feet off the ground. The skin and what was left of the hair were shrivelled up and tight to the bone. Now Im thinking it was probabaly done by some guy who had the (bear?) skulls and wanted to hang them up and let the elements and maggots eat away the flesh, to leave him with a clean bone skull. I have done this with smaller animal skulls, but I know a guy with a mess of Carrion beetles, who can clean a skull in about 3 days. Then you boil and bleach it, and its museum quality. Anyway, this was quite a wierd discovery, and really freaky too. Anyone else come across eerie Voodoo - Blair Witch type things
  3. I helped along a Borg, which was one of 5 set out to assimilate bugs. it had a bug attached to it and they must travel together from now on.
  4. * On a side note - Hey Arctic. All the bugs made it from ME to TN. Thx. Lt.Dan
  5. I have plans in the works for a January release of "Big Honkin' 2x4" which will be about 4 or 5 feet long. But anything bigger than Cindy would border on too large to move around. I guess that puts the kabosh on Timmy the Toilet Bowl.
  6. Im gonna get a GPS. I want one thats around 200 bucks with a built in north america basemap, and some memory for adding maps via software. So its come down to the Legend or the SportTrac Map. My dad and bro have the Legend, and its ok and all, but i dont like the toggle stick. The Sporttrac looks nice IMO and has a nice navigation button, larger screen , better antenna, fully waterproof, etc. So i can go to Walmart and get the legend for 170 bucks (family already has the compatible map software) Or i can order a SPortTrac map bundle pack with the unit, the MapSend Topo, and carry case for 185 plus shipping after rebate and sale discount So, please give me advice on which is better, Legend or SportTrac Map, and if their respective softwares have any big advantage over the other. Ive used the Legend, but the Sporttrac is new to me. Thanks, Lt.Dan
  7. Count me in, and my brother go_vols81. Name a date and time and we'll be there. Were both newbies to caching, but it seems right down our alley. I just found my first one yesterday, so im officially in the game now. Just curious, how many folks attend UT? Im assuming thestosh and davidmac, but how many others? add me to any mailing lists you got going. Lt.Dan dharris1@utk.edu *edit* I agree with the "Smokey Mountain" distinction. "SMOKE : Smoky Mountain Outdoor Kaching Enthusiasts" hmmm... may have to work on the K...
