  1. congrats from me too - isn't that one of the spooky caches?
  2. In 5.1.4 build 10,if you run a macro in debug, the skip doesn't seem to skip the command - a bit of a bummer when I'm wanting to skip the export to my gps when its not attached and i have to wait for it to timeout :-) Using XPsp2.
  3. my filename is different, i only have version 1 of the eu base map so i'll have to change the checksum. interestingly, the docs say that anything after the filename is irrelevant..... My problem was that the xmodem protocol didn't seem to chat - the unit would go into xmodem mode (as nothing seemed to happen when you typed anymore) but no characters would be transferred. I've only got the 2mb ish file as thats all the sportrak map holds.
  4. mines the 13th of as my leaving do - if someone near maddie could pick it up, that would be good. Whereabouts are you maddie?
  5. oh no not another congratulations thread :-) Seriously though, this one is well worth it AND not a boilerplate congratulations in sight either. Congratulations and I'm sure people will post a congratulations thread every year on your anniversary.
  6. Any volunteers to take over this cache please as I'll be leaving soon. Thanks
  7. well i've got 4gb :-) (or i could have 100gb if i used all the 50 invites myself
  8. lol S&G - congratulations from me too. Glad to have been there on some of them on your way up....
  9. Wow that was fast - thanks Eckington for the approvals and whats keeping you Sue? They've been approved for 6 mins
  10. thats exactly what happened to me with Cheshire County Council for my Fishermens friend cache - a cool cache idea but the council wouldn't let me post it as it was dangerous (yeah right) even though blanket permission has basically been granted!
  11. you can download the uk version from the group (which doesn't help *me* much) and i've tried following the instructions to back up my english basemap but it fails to do the download.
  12. lol - well the caches have been placed so I'd stay out ARRK's road as they head off to be ftf. You'll have to watch my profile for the approval to go through - good luck and set your alarm clocks for sunday morning REALLY early :-) I'll also have 2 ammo cans for £3 each, nicely painted, and a pair of pmr's including charger for £10. (pmr's don't do subchannels similar to the ones at Argos but its the 250 version). You don't need to come to my frontgarden to collect.!
  13. I'll have 2 for sale at my leaving do. £3 each and no postage if you attend.
  14. can someone try logging a tb using their pda by accessing the standard web page. I get problems when i try as per my thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=88054 and i'd like to see if anyone else has the same problems. Ta
  15. i'll have at least 3, one as a FTF on my first US placed cache, one for me and one as a TB released in the states too.
  16. the sportrak group on yahoo ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/magellan_sportrak) has details on backing up the basemaps (which is what I intend to try.) The US basemap is/was available on the groups Instructions on backing up are as follows..... INTRODUCTION ============ This document describes the procedures to download the european basemap eu_m102.dat from the SprtTrack. Some working knowledge about the windows enviroment and the SprtTrack is assumed. These procedures must be used at your own risk. I assume no responsibility of any kind. Please take your time to carefully read through all instructions and make sure you understand them before using them. BASEMAP DOWNLOAD (SprtTrack => PC) =============================== Setup of the SprtTrack ------------------- 1. Connect the SprtTrack to the PC. 2. Switch the SprtTrack on, make sure that the battery life indicator is over 50%, and turn off the NMEA output (Menu > Setup > NMEA > Off). 3. Set the baudrate to the desired value (any value will do, but remember that the PC should be set at the same baudrate, see below). If too many errors occur, the baudrate can be reduced, but then it takes much more time to download (with 115200 bps it takes about 15 minutes). this instruction is modified from what what placed on the SprtTrack site Setup of the PC --------------- 1. Create a text file containing the following lines (Copying & Pasting this text into Notepad will do): $PMGNCMD,FIL,FIRST,*6B $PMGNCMD,FIL,NEXT*1A $PMGNCMD,FIL,NEXT*1A $PMGNCMD,FIL,NEXT*1A $PMGNCMD,FIL,DOWNLOAD,eu_m102.dat*6B Don't forget the carriage returns at the end of each command. The file contains the commands to let the merdidian show the available files in the unit and transmit the file BASEMAP.IMG (which is the basemap). The command structure is taken from the Data Transmission Protocol for Magellan Products Version 2.5. If you add some extra $PMGNCMD,FIL,NEXT*1A lines, you get to see all the files (for example the detailed maps). If you only want to get a file listing, without downloading, then just leave out the last line with the DOWNLOAD command. 2. Start Hyperterminal: Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > Hyperterminal. 3. Make a new connection (or open the saved connection from a previous session and go to step 8). 4. Connect Using: Direct to Com1 (or Com2, whatever Com port your SprtTrack is connected to). Click OK. 5. Port settings: Bits per second: equal to SprtTrack setting Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Flow control: None 6. On the advanced button you can adjust the receive and transmit buffer (putting both buffers on Low should be fine). Click OK. 7. Now click the Disconnect icon to stop the communication between Hyperterminal and the meridian at this point, as we first need to check some other communication settings. Some of these settings may not be relevant at all, others are very relevant. Anyway, the settings below have proven to work and so are listed here. In Hyperterminal, click the Properties icon and choose the Setting Tab. Keys act as: Windows-keys backspace key sends: CTRL+H Emulation: Autodetect Telnet terminal: ANSII Backscroll buffer lines: 500 Next, Click ASCII: Check 'Send line ends with line feeds' (this one is very relevant!) Check 'Echo typed characters locally' Set both delays to 0 milliseconds Check 'Append line feeds to incoming line ends' Uncheck 'Force incoming data to 7-bit ASCII' Check 'Wrap lines that exceed terminal width' Click OK twice to close the two windows 8. Now connect to the SprtTrack (click on the Call icon) and go to Transfer > Send Text File, selecting the text file that was created in step 1. 9. The unit should now respond with a directory listing of the internal file system and you should also see the file BASEMAP.IMG. The last sentence of the response of the unit should be $PMGNCMD,END*3D. 10.Go to Transfer > Receive File, and select the 1K Xmodem protocol. After that, name the basemap file that you will be receiving (I recommend using the same suffix as Magellan uses:.img) 11.The file transfer should start now, and progress can be monitored (with a baudrate of 115200, it takes about 15 minutes), but I have found in noisy environments that a boudrate of 4800 may be required to get through without errors. That's it! When the download is finished you will have a basemap file that can be uploaded to the unit, using magup.exe.
  17. hmm - I'm about to do the opposite - go from a uk basemap to the us one. Can't help on the topomap but would be interested in any leads you get on this one - pm me about the basemap though (as I can't access my data on how to do it here)
  18. Careful Pengy/Tigger - looks like someone might be vying for Deego's company on the local caches! Fraid to say that I won't be able to make it but I'll be watching the cache logs.
  19. Ok, looks like the date is going to be set for the Wednesday 13th April, 7,7.30pm start. Coordinates to be unveiled in the very near future but you will need to find another cache first - details to be provided shortly. Its at a pub/restaurant fairly near Congleton, (M6 J17 is nearest MWay exit) the pub does VERY good food but is a bit pricey if you have a "proper" main course but their lighter meals are about £7-£8 I'm off there tomorrow night to celebrate my last day at work so will ask about the possibility of just booking several tables as opposed to one big 15-20 seater table. Hopefully this hasn't put anyone off or given them too many clues as to whereabouts!
  20. i was hoping someone else had the same problem or tptb would fix it .
  21. and you forgot to add "And blamed domheknows instead of tomtom for it" to number 10.
  22. Cissy and CSR also have a stencil you can download and cut out (fiddly) or you can buy it from them. personally I just spray paint them black, brown and green.
  23. lol, Arrks got a complete set out of a cache they visited - white ones again. Stupidly I didnt purchase extra sets of Mexican Train dominoes that I saw in Birmingham - £3 for a really nice set with a metal container - I could have even saved me the bother and just set it up as a cache of sig items
