  1. A good friend of mine has just purchased one of the Dell Axim X51 series with the bluetooth GPS module.. It comes with the standard Dell/Navtech navigation software which she wants to use to give her directions to the cache from her house (She drives great distances to get to them!).. Having never used this software before (I use Tomtom for getting where I want to be on an X30high and a good old fashioned eMAP for caching), I am wondering if there is any way to feed it WGS84 co-ords instead of zip codes or whatever it uses to navigate? I apologise in advance if this has been covered elsewhere on these forums, and if it has, could you point me in the right direction please
  2. Next time, check that your GPS is set to WGS84 and not some bizarre irish datum... YOU SIR, are an idiot
  3. Im a great lover of my little eMAP. Its got the latest firmware on, while it doesnt have the same capabilities of more modern machines (such as being able to take standard memory cards, no proper floating compass etc), for its price I was more than happy with it. Ive been caching with it for over a year, and cant think of any reason I would need to upgrade. Its a basic mapping machine (wonderful when loaded with the streetmaps), with the addition of the neoprene cover, its semi waterproof and has been into quite a few adventures and rugged caches over its time with me. Battery life is pretty good considering, and its slim enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I must admit also, that when i first started caching, I went with a friend who had a GPS12 and the eMAP simply blew it away... He's now got a Magplat, which Ill grant you is an excellent piece of kit, but still a little chunky compared to the sleek lines of the eMAP.. You wont go far wrong with it..
  4. I Totally agree, I would love to come across a cachesmasher in the course of my travels...
  5. I'd also like to add my thanks to Highland Nick for organising Highland Cachebash 2004. I drove from Lowestoft to Inverness on the previous Friday, where for a warmup, Thunderbird30 took me out on an 11 cache day taking in the real highlands. I have never seen such beautiful countryside and enjoyed such solitude in my life (OK, I was with TB30, but if you feed him enough Whisky and Scotch Pies he stays quiet long enough for you to enjoy the silence!) Cachebash was fantastic, we found all 6 on the first day and I ached in places I didnt even know I had. Once again massive thanks to Highland Nick for the event, Thunderbird30 for doing the driving and providing the running commentary on Scottish history,The Baron for providing my diesel and Chivas Bros for providing the Single Malt! How about a "Cannonball" type event for next summer, taking in the most Northern,Southern,Eastern and Western caches? "Once I used to sit on my bum in front of a monitor, Now Im a Geocacher!"
  6. and its because of you im now going into see clients with grubby shoes and leaves in my collar... Ill give you credit, it's an interesting way to kill a couple of hours in a working day! Garmin Emap..Best toy I ever bought!
