  1. Sounds like you're following the 'spirit and intent' of the guidelines to a T! Good luck!
  2. Happy Birthday and congratulations on your 500th! Hoping to see you on the trail someday!
  3. Please be courteous and close the thread. Not griping, just pointing this out.
  4. ***Personal Opinion Alert*** If I look for a cache and find it = Found it! If I look for a cache and don't find it = Didn't find it I log it either way, just so the cache owner has some feedback and can check up on the cache if he/she feels it is deteriorating or has gone missing. I don't log caches as "found" if I didn't really, physically have it in my hands. (And signed the logbook, of course.) Cachers who log finds without actually finding them are hurting themselves AND the cache owners by not following these simple guidelines. ***End Personal Opinion Alert***
  5. The tokens are pretty cool, CrimsonWrath! What is cost per piece on those, and is there a minimum order? I'd like to have something along those lines as a sig item for Team FlashnCache! (I used your link, but it came up as "Coming Soon".) Thanks,
  6. Dave of Team FlashnCache here. Me and the Team live in Terre Haute. Good day, and happy hunting!
  7. I'm in agreement with Divine on this one. If it would be necessary to include a hint that amounts to a "spoiler", I'd rather it be encrypted than right there in black and white. Also, from a personal standpoint, I would like for it to have SPOILER written all over it! Then it gives the finder the option of making it easy.....or letting it be a bit harder. Could this be the start of a new trend? Multi-level difficulty? (It's a 3* if you don't decrypt the hint, but a 1* if you do.) Just a thought... (edit: added clarification.)
  8. I am not really local to Indianapolis, (72 miles or 110 km away) but if someone more local would be interested in placing a "Gateway", I would help maintain it. Anyone from Indy?
  9. Way back when, when I was a Boy Scout; having a self-made walking stick was very fashionable. I found a fair length of wood, ash; I believe and made my walking stick out of that. I carefully stripped the bark off of a 1" x 3" section near the top and lovingingly carved my initials into it. I also braided a stout strap out of 1/8" cord that we had laying around the campsite. I finished it off with with a pair of carefully carved beads a la Philmont. The strange thing is that I made it over 20 years ago, and I know exactly where this walking stick is right now. Leaning in the corner of my garage, ready for the next hike! I guess the point is that anything will do if you want it to. I've never felt the need to invest in anything else, because my "old friend" is always at the ready. God, I'm gonna be sad if I ever break it! Hope you find your perfect match...
  10. Strangely, that looks like a pack of cigarette papers used to show the scale. What else might you use the grabber for? LOL
  11. What a terrible situation! Not only cobbed part of your name, but deleted your log as well?!? Sounds very unsportsmanlike. You don't give any clues, what "part" of your name did he/she decide was better suited to him/her? Merely mentioning the handle here may just be enough to help the offending individual to see the error of his/her ways and possibly even encourage them to revert to their old handle. Of course; you may not want to generate any ill will with someone who is in fairly close proximity, and I would understand that. Keystone Approvers's helpful advice might be the best way to go. Hope this situation works out for the best, and doesn't diminish your enjoyment of Geocaching. Best wishes!
  12. I've got to go visit "Sledgehammer"! My wife's parents live about 35 miles north of Nashville, (maybe not even that far...) and this would make a neat day trip for the munchkin and I while the wife and MIL went shopping or some such. Thanks for the info, I'm not dreading the next trip as much now!
  13. I was out in the woods this one time. I looked on the ground and there was this STICK! It looked like it was free, so I picked it up...
  14. I'll second the Cachemate / GSAK motion. Granted, they're not as intuitive as they could be, but once you figure out how it's done it's a snap!
  15. I'd love for us to be able to make it over there. I'll float it by the wife this evening. Hehe! I was just about to ask for directions, but DUH I've got coordinates! I guess I just make things harder than they need to be, sometimes! I'll post later as to whether my better half says Yea or Nay. (Nothing says I can't come without her, y'know?)
  16. I have too much respect for the rest of humanity (not to mention my fellow cachers ) to EVER be caught nude in public. Hmmmm... I was going to say more, but I think I will leave it at that. (edit: spelling...)
  17. This is a perfect illustration of why I wouldn't consider buying a Magellan. I have heard from a couple of people that their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. GARMIN ROCKS!
  18. I just wanted to chime in here as well. This has GOT to be the nicest thing I've read in the forums for a long time. I'm glad I'm involved in a hobby with such big-hearted folks, it almost makes me want to forget all of the sniping and b*tching that go on here on a daily basis. You have even given me hope for the human race. (And THAT'S saying something!)
  19. Just wanted to let everyone know that I have gotten all of the technical glitches worked out. Even though the Palm IIIxe is somewhat dated as PDA's go, I'm extremely happy with the way GSAK and Cachemate work together and get information into the old thing. I grabbed a bunch of local caches yesterday (~400, I think) and loaded them up. Total hotsynch time was about 4 minutes, it took the PDA about another 4 to sort things out. Now I'm loaded for bear! Once again, thanks to everyone for steering me in the right direction and for the technical help.
  20. My nearly-five-year-old daughter always goes with me and she LOVES geocaching. Sometimes the wife comes along and we make a day of it. One thing about the wife, though: she won't go NEAR a graveyard, so a lot of nearby caches are right out. Nevertheless, it's great family fun!
  21. Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a whirl when I get home. I'm at work right now. BTW, I do have Version 3.00 (edit: I've been awake for close to 20 hours and my fingers aren't working well...)
  22. Okay, I've run into some problems... Here's what I've done so far: 1. I'm a (brand new) Premium Member here at GC.com 2. I've got GSAK on my PC 3. I've got Cachemate on my Palm 4. I ran a query on GC.com 5. Got the results, loaded into GSAK Now I can't figure out how to get the info from GSAK into Cachemate on my Palm Ideas? Suggestions? Help?
  23. LOL My wife is already a Bejeweled addict, we have have it on our PC at home. She appears to be recovering nicely, though. I want to thank everyone once again for their input!
  24. Thanks for the feedback. When the Palm arrives tomorrow I will definitely load up Cachemate and I'm looking at GSAK also. Is there a difference between the two? If I go with Cachemate, will GSAK be redundant, or will it enhance the experience? Thanks again!
