  1. How much local trail info do you get with Mapsend Topo?
  2. I was doing an autoroute today (on I-270 outside of the DC beltway) with my Meri Color and DirectRoute. I ran into a problem where DirectRoute had me going along a highway but then left a gap a mile long along the route. Instead of showing the green route it showed the red highway. Has anyone seen this yet? Is this a flaw in the mapping data? Are their any fixes for this? Thanks, Johnnycachers
  3. [This is SOOoooooo NOT an issue with the USB interface!] I agree that the USB is much faster for downloading to the GPSr and is much better than the slower serial interfaces but you still need to have the maps with you to upload. So, I can go from Massachusetts to NYC to DC without having to upload additional maps or bring a laptop along with the map software.
  4. The 60C looks really nice BUT it doesn't have a flash memory (SD card, etc) port to store lots of maps. I have a 256MB SD card for my Meri Color in which I carry lots of maps with me of places that I travel frequently. This saves me the trouble of constantly uploading maps of places that I travel to often as well as having multiple states on hand if I am hopping around a bit. If the 60C had this, it would be perfect.
  5. I like the PPC platform but not Dell. I had a Dell Axim X5 for about 9 months then the screen went. Dell was unable to resolve the problem and their customer service was atrocious. I am now looking for another PPC myself; probably will go with the IPAQ.
  6. Just recently purchased a GPS myself and got the Meridian Color. The decisive factor for me was the ability to install a flash memory (SD) card so I can hold lots of maps where I often travel to. I have a 256 MB SD card which blows away the built-in capacity of most units (typically less than 25 MB, although I think the 60C is around 55 MB). This allows you to have all your maps at your fingertips when traveling across large regions without the hassle of downloading new maps to your GPS on the road from your laptop. The color was an added plus that aids viewability of map features (streams, highways, etc.).
  7. Kb1cx, I have a Meri Color with a 256MB SD card and DirectRoute. I think the 64MB is a little small. I live in in New England and have Maps for (1) MA-CT-RI combined at 33MB (2) NH-VT combined at 11MB (3) ME at 7.5MB plus several others outside of New England where I travel frequently.
  8. I just bought a Meri color about 2 weeks ago and it is very nice. The color screen and the SD card capablity are 2 very nice features. I wished it had the electronic compass that the Meri Plat has. Got the Color Traveler kit at Compuplus.com for $420. w/ shipping.
  9. OK, sounds like the Mapsend Topo software is not going to get me what I want; local, state, and national forest trails right on my GPS screen. How about future releases of Mapsend, does anyone have any insight as to what and when something good may be coming out? Also, how useful are National Geographic Topo maps for printing out local, state, and national trail info?? Thanks.
  10. I have a Meridian Color that I have been using recently for geocaching. It would be nice to have trail information right on the GPS. What are your opinions of the Magellan Topo Software? Will this show me trails? How accurate and thorough are they? Do they only have trail info for large areas (i.e., White Mountains, NH) or do they also have trail info for local (small town) conservation areas? Do you know what the source of the maps are so that I might review before purchasing? Is there a better solution than using the Meridian software (I have seen posts about the National Geographic topo maps)? Thanks!
