  1. Yea, the Westell modem does that. Found the clue on the dslreport.com forums. Details here
  2. OK, finally figured it out. Thanks to everyone who passed along their ideas! Thought I'd post the results of what I found in case anyone ever has a router replacement... Recap: had to replace my Linksys router after a power surge/outage at home. Replaced it with a new SMC router. Mostly everything worked except trying to log a "FOUND" or email thru gc.com. (if I did more surfing, I'm sure I would have found more problems...) Turns out, after the power hit, I must have reset the DSL modem somewhere along the line. When I did that, it reset the modem to act as the DHCP server, something the router typically does. I went back in, reconfigured the modem as "bridged ethernet" and disabled DHCP, then the router was able to act as sole DHCP server. All is now well with the world, and I don't have to come in to work to log a find! Thanks again for your help!
  3. No, haven't been able to try too much, been slammed all weekend. One thing I did try, inadvertantly, was starting my PC in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING - and I was able to do an email link right away! So, now I need to look at what's different between safe mode and normal mode. Apparently the router is not the problem. (Just swapping the router in and out as a test is a logistical headache, with a basement router and second floor office!) So I'll try some more things as time permits - I appreciate all the grrrr8 suggestions! Will let you know if/when I narrow down the culprit. You know, I think all this started when I did a Microsoft security update. Maybe I need to back some of those out....
  4. Thanks, TotemLake. I logged out, cleared cookies, cleared caches, reboot. Fired everything back up. Was able to log back in with IE, but still cannot email or log a find (or, I just discovered, skip a month on the calendar on "My Cache Page"). After timing out on an email attempt, IE reported "Cannot find server -" Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer So I'm still no further along. <sigh> This is turning into some kinda technocache, and I keep logginf DNFs.
  5. Yes, forward & back works, seeking caches works, viewing user profiles works, the forums work fine. I just can't log a visit or email a user through their profile, both of which use form based submits. I'm wondering what behind the scenes magic happens when I hit the submit. On my laptop, I can't even log in to the site. On my desktop, IE is logged in (for now) but Opera won't let me log in.
  6. Thanks Robert, but I'm a bit leery of logging out. My IE is logged in and works for most site navigation, except the aforementioned logging finds and emailing via links. My (preferred) Opera browser is logged out and CANNOT log in (yet another problem I'm having with the new router). Would have to go back and look, but it seems the error message, after a minute or so timeout, is something about "Cannot find server." Thanks again for your help - any other ideas with this new info?
  7. Not sure where to look next. Ever since I replaced my deceased Linksys router (wireless xmtr died) with an SMC 7004 wireless, I have been unable to log finds or email members on gc.com. Is anyone aware of any special ports I need to enable to get those functions back? Thanks for any insight!
  8. I'm glad it's not just me - but sorry it has to be anybody! I've been trying to log a FTF over a period of about 3 hours. May have to get up early tomorrow morning to do it!
  9. You know you're a geocaching addict when ... your kids ask you "are we almost there?" and you proceed to give them distance, ETA, routings, nearby restaurants and 'velocity made good.'
  10. You know you're a geocaching addict when ... you can understand the hints without decoding them.
  11. I shopped for a GPS to use on hikes with my son's scout troop. Discovered geocaching.com thru a "review" on one of the vendor's websites. It's a great added bonus! Now I can get them off the couch where they keep their nose in an electronic display, and into the great outdoors... um... with their nose in an electronic display! Sounds like a grrrr8 group of folks in the GC circle, as well! Steve
  12. Technically, it never says there were THREE wisemen/kings, it just says "the Magi." I don't know, maybe Magi always traveled in threes - who knows? Nonetheless, hope you enjoy the sentiment and are reminded of the reason for the season! Steve (Not a wise man, but have been called a wise guy on more than one occasion...)
  13. ROFL! Looks like a great crowd here - I hope I have time in the coming year to hang out here! Have a GRRRR8 holiday season!! Steve
  14. It occurred to me recently that the Magi were perhaps the world's first geocachers. They followed a signal from the sky that led them to a treasure; left gold, frankincense & myrrh; and took Hope back with them. "...the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matthew 2:9-11 Merry Christmas to you all, and may all of your hunts result in smileys!
