  1. If coming back is not an option and you absolutely have to sign that log then you can use the cell phone as a decoy. People are always standing in place playing with their phones. A camera is a good ploy as well, depending on the spot. Tie your shoe, whatever to stick around and search. However you will find out that coming back another time will end up as your best option. Aborting the mission is better than compromising the hide.
  2. You need to log them as log type, 'Found it'. You logged them as 'Needs Maintenance'. ...at least the one you posted.
  3. I believe that you will need to upgrade your account yourself once you get the code.
  4. Same here. Kicked me off now it wont let me sign back on. Says my password is incorrect so I tried setting a new one and that now says error occurred.
  5. Perhaps it's the cache titles that put you off? Like this one? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3ecb6a4e-563d-45b3-8432-d91f20f6862e No, that made me smile so I'd hunt that one.
  6. Any cache on or near a playground. Most puzzles that don't pass the two minute test. Residential neighborhood caches that are in view of peoples houses. A few other reasons I'm not sure I want to admit here.
  7. Adding a dedicated handheld gps to your geocaching tools of the iPhone and Tom Tom would just about complete the toolbox. You'll be unstoppable. With the exception of some inner city caches, I don't think I've ever had a problem with reception using a handheld. The iPhone however has failed me quite a few times. Not because of the app but reception, like you said. My vote is if you can afford one, go for it, you won't regret it.
  8. The Geocaching home page has a link called Geocaching 101 which has a lot of good answers to questions like yours. As for Oriental Trading, I haven't tried them but I've seen that name tossed around on here for years as a good place for swag.
  9. thinking it over during the night, that was also what I figured out ;-) I will try that today! Thank you! Of course the bike is not necessary, nor is finding more than one. Enjoy it at your pace. Welcome to the game.
  10. "Rondje de stille Kempen" is the name of a series of caches by the same person near Antwerp, Belgium. Looks like it is meant to be done on a bike. The one point you downloaded is probably one of these caches and is your target. Read the cache pages first to get an idea what you need to do. I think you'll need to download the rest of them to enjoy the whole series.
  11. It may not promote any particular religion but it is still an agenda.
  12. Excellent, they work now. Thanks guys.
  13. One way to meet other cachers is to attend an event. Going by your first cache found I think the nearest event I can see is in Quincy, Ill. Coincidentally called 'Getting to Meet our Caching Neighbors' GC4B6GW There's also a few in and around KC. Welcome to the game.
  14. Cache my way across the country from my home in NY to the Redwoods of Northern California. Head south to visit my brother in Vegas then cache my way back across the southern states.
  15. 'Cut and paste' or TFTC logs. Not sure either would fall under the 'deadly sin' category but they are kind of annoying. OT- we miss you here on the right coast, hope all is well.
  16. Same here and since I am not really very computer smart I guess I will just have to live with it as I don't understand what people are saying they are doing to fix the problem. Hope the site fixes it soon. I am lost without it. According to Moun10bike, they've resolved this issue but it won't show until the site update at the end of the month. Scroll up to his post on this thread and there is a link to his explanation on another thread. Hope that helps.
  17. This is in issue separate from the one initially raised in this thread. See my post here. Cool, thanks MTB.
  18. Did you guys change something? Pocket query preview maps haven't worked for me in about a week. They seem stuck on my home location showing all caches instead of the caches from the pocket query. I don't believe any of the settings are any different on my computer since they did work.
  19. This describes my first two days also. After nine years I'm averaging about 10 - 15% dnf's.
  20. I've gotten used to using just the map screen too.
  21. It's not unusual that some finders don't log online, what is unusual is that 3 of the 6 didn't log online. I don't think I've found 3 in my whole cache hiding career. I don't read all the logbooks from my hides but the ones I have were all accounted for online.
  22. I agree 10' is excellent. !7' is well within reason too. My gps does averaging when I take a waypoint. I can let it sit for a few minutes for it to get better accuracy. Or at least I haven't gotten many complaints since I discovered that feature. If your phone doesn't do the averaging, take a few waypoints with both phones and average them yourself. But getting closer than 10' is pretty tough.
  23. Technically it's not a geocache until it get's published.
  24. You may have logged one twice. That would show 249 caches found on 248 distinct caches. Or something like that. You just need to find out which one. Luckily you don't have all that many to go through to find it. If you know how to use GSAK that would make it quicker.
