  1. You need to check the cache that you logged. Your profile doesn't show any finds for today.
  2. Mine is in Harlem. 38 miles west of my home co's.
  3. Definitely tell him to log all the caches he found.
  4. When I hit "Go" on my GPSr and leave without signing the log. Some of my more interesting logs are DNFs. Zackly. ...Hey Harrald! If you log the dnf just like you told us here it would tell anyone who cares that the cache is probably fine and won't need attention. It will also be as much for your records as the cache pages.
  5. There are so many aspects to this game. Don't let one issue derail the entire thing. Leave this one be for now and come back to it after a few weeks. Or not, the ignore list is a handy tool for things like this. But I've learned you can always adjust your caching style a little so that you continue to enjoy the hobby. Don't stop hiding caches (if that's an aspect you enjoy) because of this one situation.
  6. Go to the Getting started page and scroll down a bit. There you'll find out how to set up the instant notifications you are looking for.
  7. Unfortunately Groundspeak seems to have pivoted towards the smart phone. It used to be a game for gps enthusiasts but I'm guessing that the sheer amount of smart phones is probably where they think they'll see the most income. You're probably better off giving in and getting a new phone because they obviously have no intention of removing those free apps.
  8. "...is it okay to backdate the finds that we made together?" Absolutely!
  9. I wouldn't think the FTF game applied to events. First To Arrive maybe.
  10. If someone says I stole it, that is a different discussion of vandalism & theft, not Intro App users. How do you know they are an intro app user anyway? Could just be a sock-puppet account. Did anyone even check if it was ACTUALLY taken. Maybe just a BS log by someone in this very thread trying to make a point. Well whatever it was it worked, I'm on the premium member only side of the fence now.
  11. Whoever is allowing these welfare cachers in, WAY TO GO GUYS! Another cache gone
  12. I think it's bold of Groundspeak to offer up our caches to people who do not have to be held accountable. unless they are going to reimburse me for the one cache I know is missing thanks to a Not Validated Member.
  13. One of my caches was moved by a cacher with 6 finds who is not a validated member and cannot be contacted. I spent 20 minutes looking with no luck. I archived the cache. Can someone from Groundspeak tell me what I can do to prevent this from happening again? I mean short of making all my caches for premium members only?
  14. Or instead of a whole coordinate string, maybe an easy to remember 2 or 3 digit number that can be added to a coordinate string you post on the page that lead to the container on land.
  15. Only a statewide boycott works. By doing so puts greater pressure on the park service to correct the actions done by the one park. It also puts them on notice to not try it elsewhere. This also would show to Groundspeak that allowing this is NOT a good idea and they will alienate more cachers than they will gain through the tour. I've also stopped all geocaching related purchases, but not ready to call for anything because I don't really know if they are aware and what their position on the matter is. I doubt the state parks system is quaking in their boots at the thought of a geocacher boycott. If they see the schoolyard bickering the game can create they may just tell us to take it somewhere else.
  16. 43 north, how about a pair of show shoes or microspikes?
  17. One of my reasons was that when I first started caching I didn't even think about milestones. Then upon realizing that Groundspeak posted stats to include milestones, I wanted the first one I found to be in the milestone #1. Because I had logged my first finds in random order, #1 was not reflected as #1. By locking it in, I now have #1 in the right place. A few others were corrected also, because I had found them to mark a certain milestone. It's an accuracy thing, I guess (OCD) Ha! I can see how to lock the milestones, but how do you correct the order of caches which were logged on the same day, that don't appear in the order they were found, in order to lock in the correct find? If you didn't log them in order to begin with, you might try deleting the logs from that day and log them again in the correct order. Just reset the date when you edit them to show the date you found them.
  18. Our approvers here in NY review caches at least a few times a day. Once I had one published in less than a half hour but mostly by the end of the day that I submit them. Worst case scenario is two days. Make sure you checked the box that says it's ready to be reviewed.
  19. There's really no fair or unfair involved when it comes to travel bugs or trackable coins. They can take one or all as long as they move them along, even out of their own cache. How long can they keep that up for anyway? Visiting the same cache over and over just for travel bugs has to get pretty stale after a while.
  20. We have to replace stolen geocaches so it cannot be that "nobody notices" Do you mean that COs may say (to those who ask) that the lost caches were not stolen but muggled by accident? I think his point was that this person is in need of attention and if you don't give them any, they will find someone else to harass. There is no other way to deal with this than ignore it. Replace the missing caches at a later date.
  21. There is an event coming up called 'NY Capital Region Geocachers 11th annual picnic. It looks like it's about 15 miles or so east of Albany. Here's the link. GC4GXAP Probably your best bet to meet Albany area cachers.
