  1. I see I was the last finder, hope it wasn't my fault it was compromised. I don't remember seeing anyone up there that day. It was right where the old coordinates said it would be when I found it. (N40 58.782 W74 19.172)
  2. New York Admin's profile page explains it somewhat.
  3. 'Rules' seem to imply a competetive activity where this is a little more passive, they use guidelines. Guidelines for the forums are at the top of any forum thread or page. Guidelines for hiding a cache I'm not sure of any guidelines for hunting caches other than the local laws. Have fun and be safe.
  4. Ummm, thanks but could you narrow it down a bit? Which place is your favorite? Lots of trees, beautiful scenery, great photo ops would be my ideal place. I think she was just pointing out that there are tons of great places in range. Being in Islip pretty much makes us neighbors in this game. I leave the island every Saturday. There are too many to pick a favorite but Ramapo Reservation/Ringwood Manor in NJ is a great place to start, Harriman State Park is another. I usually do day trips so I can't say how to make a 3 day weekend of it. Adding to Avgraphics comment, you could spend a month between Watchung and South Mountain Reservation and never get bored.

  6. You need to go through the caches one by one and make parking waypoints to route to. Using the caches themselves rarely works. Puts you on the wrong side of train tracks, rivers or other obstacles. But Microsoft Streets and Trips with the right parking spots works great.

  8. Cool shipwreck that you can walk to: HUK-32 Shipwreck Night cache: Dusk 'til Dawn Long Island's coolest rock: "THE GIANT" The Walking Dunes were pretty neat: Phantom Woods Seals (in winter): PCD-41: Sore Thumb Do you like loooong walks on the beach: JMB-3 The Inlet ...or long walks in the woods: WS - 76 WALKABOUT MIDDLE EARTH
  9. Poison ivy and oak look similar with the leaves of three but poison sumac has a completely different look with 9 - 11 leaves per stem. With an equally nasty rash. Like others have said, the best prevention is knowing what these plants look like and avoiding them. Long sleeves, long pants and gloves if you are that allergic. Tecnu has worked for me to keep it from spreading. Buji wash packets in your pack are a good idea to use in the field if you know you've come in contact with it. I live near the ocean and the salt water helps to dry it out within days if you have the opportunity to douse the rash in it.
  10. 11/22/07 18 finds and 13 dnf's In and around Allenwood, NJ.
  11. There is a 'Did not find' logging option on the cache page which would alert the cache owner that you've tried and couldn't find it. Then maybe you could drop them a note through their profile and ask for additional hints. Asking here for someone to send you info about the cache isn't really in the spirit of the game. Another helpful tip is to try using a poking stick instead of sticking our hands in places you can't see. Good luck and welcome to the game.
  12. I think your gps is just mixing up Long Beach, NY with Long Beach, Ca. If I use a different map software (microsoft streets and trips) and type in Oceanside, the first on the list is Oceanside, Ca. Same thing with Long Beach. Try waypointing your home and autoroute to the waypoint instead of the town.

  14. Your best bet is to drop it in the next cache you come across that it fits in. As for religious themed caches, I'm not even sure that's allowed. TB's sure, but I don't know of any religious type caches.
  15. --> QUOTE(brian b @ Aug 18 2009, 09:14 AM) 4034967[/snapback] I second both Brian and Mac's comments. I was with Mac when we DNF'd the Tongue, and I understand the obsession. The views, however, were beyond spectacular. There are quite a few on the Tongue that are reasonable. David found that beast. Which means as long as we get a phone signal up there, we will too. Either way the weather looks perfect for the attempt. 65 degrees with 0% chance of precip.
  16. If you think the issue is NYAdmin, or the military serviceman from the OP's cache page, then you aren't paying attention. It's about personal agenda's not being allowed on the cache page. Positive or negative.
  17. If you get no response here, you can meet other cachers at an event near you.
  18. I'm not sure about world rankings but it's the third cache hidden in NY behind 'The Spot' and 'Sleepy Hollow-1'.
  19. Unfortunately hiking doesn't pay the bills.
  20. Garden of the Water Falls is just southwest of the town and in a nice little cluster of caches. It doesn't have the views that the Tongue has but it also doesn't require a 1500' climb.
