  1. Mega Wales are proud to announce that the Mega Camping will be located at Kennexstone Camping and Touring Park, Llangennith, Gower. The campsite is situated in the heart of the wonderful and varied landscape of the Gower Peninsula (Welsh: Penrhyn Gwyr) and was the first place in Britain to be designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' (AONB) by the Countryside Agency. The site has around 240 pitches and accepts tents, caravans and motor homes. Dogs are welcome. Book your pitch now! Further details may be found here The loggable Mega Camping Event (open to campers and non-campers) will commence at 5pm on Saturday 30th July. The event will be an informal bring your own barbeque get together on the campsite. There is plenty of parking for day visitors to the event. We are also planning a number of other Side Events around the MEGA weekend that emphasise a Welsh theme including a picnic at the top of the Brecon Beacons, a walk on to Worm’s Head at the end of the Gower and Events at the National Museum, Wales. Further details of these can be found on the Mega Wales website.
  2. I guess I'm going to be busy next time I visit the in-laws.
  3. From the Garminuk website. Rules of the Game * Geocoins must be placed in a geocache within one week of activation. If you find a Garmin Geocoin and choose to leave it in the cache, make a note of its unique ID and discover the coin online to enter the contest. So I guess bad unless you never activate it. Yes, that's the rule if you want to enter the game. Given that you can only enter once though (i.e. only one coin), Garmin are hardly encouraging people that may picked up more than one design Absolutely, but weren't they limited to one coin per caching team. This promotion isn't so clear cut as the Jeep and Unite for Diabetes coins/tb's as the Garmin ones seem to be the property of the cacher who obtains it and then it's up to them on deciding it's mission. So I guess it's up to you what you do with your coin but it's surely in the spirit of things to share it with others by releasing it. You can enter more than once though, you just have to retrieve/discover a coin in the wild and enter it's tracking number.

  5. If your referring to our local cipher cache series then it's best to start with the first in the series as it's (a.) the easiest and (b.) when you've found the cache it will give a hint for the next one and so on. If you haven't had a response from the cache owner then I can only assume they are either away on holiday or are not getting your emails for some reason as I have always found them very prompt in replying to emails and giving help on finding their caches. They have some helpful programs and scripts that are mentioned on the cache pages, if thats what your after I can email you a copy. Don't give up on them though as they are very rewarding to solve and are in some great locations. Oh, and if you can help me with number ten it would be much appreciated.
  6. Lovely! Works a treat, thanks for bringing this back I've missed it.
  7. I think this should solve it. When you are on your compass page, press menu and make sure it's set to Bearing and not Course, as this would display the problems you've been having. Just spotted this over in the GPSr units and software forum.
  8. Hi folks, The 2008 South Wales Event III has also now been published too, so check those diaries. Keep a watch on it as it will be updated soon.
  9. I have found my HCx to be very good under tree cover but I only have a Extrex Venture to compare it. I think the worst accuracy it has displayed in the woods has been 9m, what are you getting? If you haven't done so already, download webupdater from the Garmin site and update to the latest software and firmware. Also make sure you have calibrated the compass as this does seem to stop it jumping around. One other thing, you mention using a the unit on a lanyard. The unit does perform a lot better if it's held level. Hope this helps.
  10. If the original owners have abandoned this cache. I would be happy to place a new cache(s) at this fantastic location. I will begin inquiries as to permission but not much I can do about scouting locations until the area is open again. I do like FMC's idea of a multi or possibly even a cache at each major fall though. I'll keep you posted as to progress.
  11. Posted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 1:54 pm Post subject: Satmap -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Guys, Guess what: I share your frustrations but I'm pleased to say that we're starting to ship the Active 10 now. There's many reasons for the delays and unfortunately all were unavoidable. It's an innovative product which makes a number of technological advances over existing GPS and of course innovation takes time - if it was easy our competitors would have already done it! Instead of giving you a list of excuses, I guess what's important is that the product is now ready and we hope you'll agree it's worth the wait. Like any company we need revenue but the product has got to be good - so unlike a lot of companies we took the decision to delay rather than asking you all to be our beta testers. Everyone who has registered will be contacted next week. Now that we're starting to ship product we will be able to shift our focus more towards customers and less on product development. We will work hard to improve our communications. Thank you very much for your patience and sorry for the delays. Kind regards, Richard Calthrop-Owen, Satmap Just found this info on another forum in case anyone was still waiting. I gave up and bought a vista HCx. Shame I didn't see this earlier as I was in Hereford this week and it would have been nice to have a look/ feel/try. I do like the rather relaxed attitude to the mapping, I quote from the Satmap website FAQ, "You can only use our maps on the Active 10. However, you can swap our maps between units (just as you can swap paper maps with your friends), so the maps are not locked to any single Active 10."
  12. If can come along to the event on Gower on the 22nd, I can show you the cachemate software and will be bringing along a laptop with GSAK on as well if you want a demo. (I'm no expert mind)
  13. There might be a, "cough" local event you could bring it to.
  14. Iv'e got an empty one of these going spare and a magnet too if you need it. Glad to help to get this cache back up again. Let me know how you want me to get it to you.
  15. You haven't missed much, it's pretty much the same article. The picture is the same too. There was a much better one in Country Walking in 2003 which is how I found out about geocaching in the first place.
  16. Cheers! Jon, Well done on your 500th especially on "that" cache. Cheers mate, Zetetic
  17. I'd let him log it but when a maintenance visit is required he's yer man.
  18. It would be great if this UfD TB could reach here in time.
  19. Congratulations on your major milestone, we had the pleasure of bumping into you in London on a caching trip last year. We were struggling to find "A Fleeting Glimpse" and probably would not have found it without you. Zetetic & Pezzini.
  20. Put me down for the cache desert of Blaenau Gwent and the other half Pezzini for Neath and Port Talbot if not already taken.Fingers crossed.
  21. Just heard back from the other cacher in Canada and they do indeed have a duplicate tag, same number and everything. I will now contact Groundspeak for advice. I really hope this is not a widespread problem.
  22. I was lucky enough to receive my Unite for diabetes TB (Ref TB1BH2M) over Christmas and had it in my inventory ready to place in a cache. However I have just received an email informing me the TB has been grabbed off me by another cacher in Canada, although the tag is still on my desk in Swansea and I have not disclosed the code to anyone. I have emailed the cacher who has has grabbed it and am awaiting a reply. But, I'm left wondering if there are duplicate tags out there or if the code has been entered in error or if the codes are easily guessable. It does seem from the comment on the TB page that the TB has been genuinely found. Anyone else had this? I won't grab it back until I've heard from the grabee but I would like to find out how this has occurred.
  23. Not all strictly geocaching related but the ones that have earned their keep on my Clie are, Mimee - coordinate converter tool. Tide Tool - very useful for those tidal island caches. Sudoku - type in that pesky puzzle cache and autosolve! FuelCalc - bit scary this one, find out how much your caching trips really cost . Only trouble is I can't remember any links for these but if anyone wants them just send me an email and I'll send the .prc files in a zip.
  24. I'm gutted the boat trip has been cancelled but as consolation there will be some new caches placed nearby. So it looks like a mornings caching then meeting up with everyone in The Ship after Hope to see you all tomorrow.
