  1. That has been done. There have been no changes. I also have all my PQs Zipped. Also, if they were blocking Groundspeak, I wouldn't get any mail from them.
  2. I run Norton Internet Security, Spy Sweeper, and Window Washer at all times. I have them set to block pop-ups and I use IE v6. I do not see popups from any site that I visit. I also have those programs set to run complete system scans each week along with adaware. As was mentioned by someone else, each program will find something that the others did not. I also do a weekly scan using WinDoctor which is part of Norton Utilities. This removes all of the entries hidden in your system that are no longer valid due to moving or deleting files. All of these are set for automatic updating, so I don't even have to worry about that. Updates are downloaded and installed in the background. Also, and this is important, make sure you have all of the latest security updates from Microsoft for both Windows and IE.
  3. Yesterday (Thursday 10/21) I had 5 PQs scheduled and received 4 out of the 5, although they all said they ran. I scheduled 5 more for today. As of 10:30 AM PDT, the PQ list says that 4 of them ran very early this AM. I received 1 out of the 4. NO!!! I DO NOT USE AOL!!!! I suspect that something is happening that the PQ E-mails are not being sent. I have checked my E-mail app and everything is set correctly. PQs that I scheduled in the past presented no problems and I have changed nothing since then. I am going to schedule some for tomorrow to see if the same thing happens.
  4. I'm presently using the Palm m515. I originally purchased this to use with my mapping program when I travel, but found it works quite well with cachmate. I added the Magellan GPS to this and then added the cachenav plugin. With this combination I just pick my cache in cachemate, then click on the nav button, and away I go. If you try this, make sure you keep everything that you can on a memory card. Then it only loads what it needs into main memory. This way you can use it for everything by using different memory cards. I use three.
  5. That may be true as far as locating where the cache has been placed. Sometimes, though, the real challenge of these lamppost caches is being able to retrieve and replace them without too many eyes on you. I remember one that I was able to retrive right away, but had to wait about 20 minutes before I could replace it due to the lunchtime crowd arriving at a nearby fast food joint.
  6. I just made my first sig item. It is a refrigerator magnet that I setup in PrintShop using my avatar and the geocaching logo along with some other things. (Yes, I have the OK from GC to use the logo on business cards receiving limited distribution.) I printed this business card size on printable magnet paper and sealed it with a clear matte finish spray sealer. None have been distributed yet, but I hope to start putting them out soon. I like this because if I change my avatar or want to make any other changes it is simple to do. Also it is not very expensive. Right now I don't have a picture to post here, but when I generate one, I'll edit this post.
  7. It looks like the only problem was on Sunday. See my earlier post. Yesterday and today I received the queries that I expected to see. Hopefully, we won't have too many of these gliches in the future. Lucanos, I agree with the post by Hynr. Hang in there and keep trying. I use GSAK and have been for several months, and I still don't get my filters right the 1st time every time. Once I do, I send the results to CacheMate on my Palm PDA which is connected to my GPSr and all works well. Just keep trying!
  8. I have been having a problem also. I have one query that was to run on 8/22 (yesterday) that has run every Sunday for months, and this time it said there were no results. Looking at it directly, there are 406 entries. I added this to my Tuesday list to see if it runs correctly. Also I had set up several one-time only queries for yesterday. One of these ran, the other 3 did not. I moved these to Wednesday to see if they run then. These are queries that I set up and run about once or twice a month, and never had a problem with them before.
  9. The avatar that I am using came with a software package that I installed. Can't remember now which one though. All I did to it was add the text "Which way to the cache" using Photoshop 5.0 LE. If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them. I am also thinking about making this into a signature item using inkjet compatable Shrinky Dink material.
  10. Send a request to logo@Groundspeak.com with your request to use the logo. You will have a reply in a few days. I did the same several weeks ago.
  11. I just became a premium member and started using pocket queries and I agree that this would be a useful feature. If anyone in the area that I live in tried to get cache information out to 100 miles from their home, they would find over 1000 caches, which is double the limit for PQs. If this feature was added, you could get a list that includes all caches from say 50-75 miles with no problem. Also any other range that you were looking for. If you were planning a day trip and wanted to do some caching in the area you were visiting, this would be very helpful.
  12. I am new to Geocaching, but have done a lot of travelling. When out in State and National Parks, I have been field stripping the tobacco portion and placing the filters in a 35mm film canister. The canister seals tight enough to keep any odor in, and your pocket or pack will stay clean. I plan on using the same system while Geocaching.
  13. Thanks for the info about the inkjet magnets at Staples. I have a discount certificate to use there, so I think I'll take a look and give them a try.
  14. I am now trying the 2nd entry in the drop down list (see earlier post). Let's see what happens. OK! they both work. Now to see if I can get a signature to work.
  15. Testing my avatar. I uploaded one picture, but see 2 entries for the same when I go to select an avatar in the drop down list. Hope this works. Add coment: It worked!!!!!
  16. Just a thought on the magnets. I have seen magnets designed to be attached to business cards. You could print your sig card on business card stock and stick them to these. I haven't tried them, but they appear to be pretty heavy. I was thinking of doing that myself, but haven't come up with a design even though I have a business card with all my contact info on it along with the geocaching logo (with permission from Groundspeak). I made that in Print Shop.
  17. I just found a good price ($35.00 plus shipping) for the Leki Wonderfreund at Northern Mountain Supply located in Eureka, CA. They charge $10.00 for 3-day FedEx shipping on orders under $50.00. Before I ordered I looked at this pole at a local retailer and I do like the grip on this. Since I have a bad knee, I can also use this as a cane if necessary. I will give this a good test on some local hills where caches are located and may update this after that.
  18. Logging your DNF's can be useful for the owner and other cachers as well. If anyone sees several DNF's for the same cache without a find, it is a tipoff that something may be wrong. This way the owner knows he/she should check the cache to be sure it is still there, and other searchers can wait to see if it is found or fixed before searching for it. I post a note if something stops me from completing a search, as happened when I was looking for one located at a restaurant. I don't post a DNF because I did not look very well and plan on returning, but want the owner to know that I tried and why I stopped.
  19. After you reinitialize the GPSr, go to the screen that shows the satellite signals. If you see good signals, my experience has been that you should get a position fix in less than 15 minutes. I have used both Garmin and Magellan GPSrs, and have had the same results with both. If you don't see the unit acquiring satellites, either the antenna or the receiver has a problem and you will need to contact the manufacturer.
  20. I am new to Geocaching, but I feel that all Finds/Not Founds should be posted on the web site. This not only lets the owner know that his/her cache is being hunted, but also what condition it is in. Also, anyone planning on looking for a particular cache can check the recent logs to be sure it is still there before they waste time looking for something that has disappeared. In other words, the logs help everyone!
  21. The DeLorme products will let you upload maps to a PDA, and you can use that with a GPS that is compatible. I use a Magellan Companion with my Palm m515. The only thing that I don't like is the map redraw speed, but if you are not travelling down a highway, it's not a problem. (At least for me).
  22. I am new to Geocaching, but am already using CacheMate. I have not downloadind directly, just manual entries for starters. I am using the Palm m515 and have CacheMate installed on a 32MB SD card. This way it is only there when I need it. The main memory has very little installed directly (only what won't work from a card). Using it this way gives me pleanty of room for notes and as many Cache entries as I want, since each one takes up very little room. I also like the idea of being able to decode the hints directly within this program when you need a hint.
