  1. Kind of my opinion as to the security of the cacher's identity. Personally I don't have a camera to take photos with, so I can't do ecs like these.
  2. Yes, I did explain to the owner, and he said "Sorry, no picture, no find."!!!! pity, oh well!
  3. Why do so many earthcaches need to have a picture as a requirment? I don't have an efficient way of getting pictures onto my computer. This problem has kept me from looking for several earthcache, and from getting my bronze ec master. For me, making a picture an ec requirment is the equivelant of making and that ec pm only. There are a few owners who have had pity on me, but not most. Any cheap (as in $$$) suggestions on how to get over this? I understand a picture as an occaisonal requirment, but for 99% of ecs? Why?
  4. I understand you're problem, I've run into it as a cache owner. When a person submits a cache next to terrain and difficulty ratings there's a little link that says "rate you're cache" and you can rate you're cache's d/t. It's imperfect but it gives you a good basis. If the owner gets a lot of DNFs or logs saying "this one took me forever! (more than 30 minutes)" they should change the difficulty.
  5. No this has not bugged, and probably never will. The caches I've placed have averaged about 1 find every month ( It's been out about 6-7 months, and several of those finds were in the first month or two), so I'm just happy that the caches have been found.
  6. In southern Oklahoma it's eastern red cedar. However, this tree species is invasive and geocachers placing geocaches near cedars are inadvertantly becoming enemies of our environment (a very unique one, by the way. It's an eco-tone). The cedars/junipers take way more than their fair share of water, and they also disrupt native wildlife nesting habits.
  7. I am going to be writing a letter to the editor of my local paper about geocaching benefiting the community, and I would like to include a special section about CITO and its benefits (our area could realy use a CITO event or two, or 3, or 4, or more! ). So, I would like your opinion as to would should or should not be included in this part of the letter. If you have an idea in general for this letter, please reply to the post in general geocaching discussion titled "Letter to the editor about geocaching".
  8. Lately I've been thinking about writing a letter to the editor of our local newspaper about geocaching, and how it can help benefit the community. Include any and all suggestions. I will include in the hypothetical (at this point) letter something about CITO, so I will be posting a separate topic in the CITO section of the forums for comment, like this.
  9. GC1QXY0 is mine, the story goes like this: Day 1: published. Day eight: still not found (considering there are about 3 active [in the extreme sense of the word] premium members in driving distance, maybe more, this was very unusual), so I decide to go after it. I look for about 45 minutes, and am thouroughly wet and muddy by that point (the area was literally drenched with rain the night before, and several other nights in the week, and it was a dirt road), so I decide to give up. That evening I decide to give it one more shot. So I go and look for another 5 minutes (oh, by the way, this was a 1 star difficulty and 2 star terrain) and decided to call up my good friends, the owner of the cache, who lived up the road about 30 seconds. They got down there, and low and behold, were the cache had been it was obvious that it had been hit very hard, and the container was gone. We concluded that someone who was a trifle tipsy came driving along and knocked the cache loose, and then it was washed away by the heavy rain. So the owner ( Davis Warrior) went back home and got a replaicement container, came back placed it in a more secure position. I signed the log and got my first FTF. Next morning: One of the previously mentioned active premium members (oblander4cachers) emailed me to this affect: Saw you got the FTF on the cache. We went looking for an hour and looked in every possible location were it could be, but no find. the gps continually took us to the sw corner of the bridge [where the cache was originally]. Please give us a hint, yes we're desperate! So I emailed the about the previous nights experience and they eventually found it. Thus concludes the story of my memorable first FTF.
  10. I am totally against pm earth caches. I am against pm caches period (I don't think I'll include the punctuation mark since I already mentioned it ) I mean what if you don't have the money to be a pm? (like me)
  11. I was wondering if NGS benchmarks were the only type logable or if others, engineer corp, for instance, were also logable on geocaching.com.
  12. Between logged and ulnogged, the percent is about 25-35%.
  13. I have figured out how to do it. Thanks every body.
  14. Is your "on-device" firmware up to date? The more data about a given situation, and what all has been added to the device, and versions of 'support' software; the easier it is to lend assistance. Norm The gps is new, so every thing should be up to date.
  15. My delorme pn-20 is not allowing me to download geocaches onto it. When I plug it in and click send to gps, it will complete the 1st part, but gets stalled on the 2nd.
  16. I recently did a cache with my friend. He published it (including in the "who published it part" that both he and I) and it showed up on his user, but not mine. I was wondering if there is a way of getting it on my user to.
  17. High I'm a relative amateur at benchmark hunting to some people, so I want to know how many you guys have found. (as of time of posting, my current number is something like 17)
  18. My dog would love it, if she'd agree to go, but she's to scared of the car.
  19. Can't anybody tell what he means? (maybe I'm interpreting you're replies wrong) Stop beating a dead horse!!!
  20. This topic is closed. Thanks so much everybody!
  21. I find it a pity that virtual caches have been grandfathered. I want your opinion as to why they were grandfathered and if we should try to get them reinstated.
  22. Does this place also sell other models at such a highly discounted price? If so which ones?
