  1. I've been following this from a distance, as I've been way to busy taking on new and different responsibilities at work. I'll be skiing on Saturday , so that is out. But to be honest I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel until sometime after Easter.
  2. quote: My first take was the Darth Maul TB from the Attack of the Clones cache For me it was a tape of some weird music up at Great Scott. I wish I had kept it, but am not sure what happened to it.
  3. quote: I am not sure why the implication that Mt Marsh is in Portland... Well, that would be my head thinking one thing, and my fingers thinking another. In the general Portland AREA, Mt. Marsh appears to be the oldest, but Inspirational still takes the cake for being the oldest within the city limits. Anyway, I've been working off and on on a Portland Caching page (hence the history), and have done most of the easy stuff. The cool hard stuff I would like to do, I'm still figuring out. It's tough understanding the concept of databases and dynamic web pages, but not knowing the particulars of making it happen.
  4. I realize that I'm way to biased to be even somewhat objective in this, and I realize that there can be nothing worse than overzealous parents showing pictures of their kids, but you gotta admit, he's pretty cute.
  5. I'm doing a little research in early Portland Geocaching. Obviously Un-Original commemorates the first stash ever placed. And Makaio has the distinction of hosting the first local get together. Excluding Mountain Marsh, is there any cache in Portland proper older than Inspirational? How quickly did things get going here? It seems as if Makaio and Exocet and Wit Camp were finding caches as early as December of 2000, but even then it doesn't look like things really started to take off until April of 2001.
  6. I look forward to seeing how things go from any one of you. Thanks!
  7. I was wondering if any South Dakota cachers could help the Travel Bug "Darth Maul" continue his quest for other jedi. He was last seen in this cache. It's tough to advance the goals of the darkside, when you're trapped in a box.
  8. I was wondering if there are any Colorado cachers that would be interested in helping the Travel Bug Buzz Lightyear along. Buzz was last seen in this cache. It's tough to get to infinity and beyond when you are sitting around.
  9. Born in Fort Benning, Georgia, but family moved to California shortly thereafter. Raised there for most of my life in Northern Cali - which is nothing like Southern LA-LA land. Did a 9 month stint in South Dakota when my parents got some hair brained idea that they wanted to live there. One winter proved them wrong, and we moved back to California. My great great grandparents also traveled over the Oregon Trail and settled here. My mom was raised in Medford, and her parents lived in Florence for all of my life - so we were up here all the time as kids. Have been here now for 11 years, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else - though occassionally I miss Monterey, and days spent watching the Giants play at home whenever I got a craving to drive up to the city to catch a game. The mrs. is a native of Vancouver.
  10. I don't know if it was Japanese, but I have been getting some strange characters in my emails from this forum. Looks like a bunch of gobbledygook. Mr. Snazz - thanks for the 80's song reference. Stupid thing is stuck in my head now.
  11. I'm slightly fearful that something may happen to me now. Since you were the first to grab the clone cache out of Attack of the clones - there is this fear that your bad karma will work it's way to me. Not that I really believe in karma or anything, but in a caching sense I'm thinking it sucks to be you right now.
  12. Not that I have visions of beating everyone to this. Life has gotten way to busy anyway. I just like the movies.
  13. And all things green. Having done a little caching in your old stomping grounds (mom lives in Danville), I was always amazed at the great satellite reception. There are some caches around here that at certain hours of the day are impossible to find (back in a canyon with heavy tree cover, and limited line of sight to the birds above). Anyway, I found it easier to find things down there, whereas up here a 30 foot radius has a lot of wet green plant life to conceal a wet green ammo can. You'll get on a roll soon, and continue to add to an already impressive count. But I've always said that if you can cache up here, you can cache anywhere.
  14. To Adrian for such a great accomplishment. And to dad too - he's got shoes on. That is an even greater accomplishment.
  15. You might also want to check out Government Duck along the Columbia River, and Racoon Haven which is on an island in the Willamette. Racoon Haven is not the only cache on this island. I think there are two others.
  16. I have a micro that requires an email as proof of finding. You need to answer a question that is found in the container. Sometimes I respond to the email and sometimes I don't (mostly I do). It just depends on how busy I am. Most people log and email me at the same time anyway. If I notice that they haven't logged, I definitely get back to them to let them know they are correct in their answer. If they don't email me and log, I typically will email them to see if they had and answer - or at the very least they can describe the exact location that they found the container. It works well for me, and only once have I deleted a log from someone who never responded to my emails.
  17. I too have been using hotmail for over a year for geocaching related stuff, and have never found myself not getting any email from gc.com. I'm not sure why this would be happening to you - maybe contact the support peeps at microsoft.
  18. quote:Originally posted by robertlipe: http://gpsbabel.sourceforge.net It's supported CSV for a long time and S&T2003 support was added just a few weeks ago. Thanks! It solved my dilemma.
  19. quote:Now a little question for ye?Is it possible to use GPX files in Streets and Trips?? I think this question has been raised elsewhere by Markwell as well. I sometimes bring my laptop with me, and plug my GPS into it, using Streets and Trips 2002 to track my route. I need a way to convert the GPX file into a comma delimited file. I used to be able to convert a LOC file into one of these, by opening it in geobuddy, saving it as a CSV and then transfering all the data to S&T. Now geobuddy gives me an error on LOC files that have been converted from GPX files. Any suggestions?
  20. Since all of Joedohn's caches have been removed you won't find any of my truly favorites here. His were simply the best at getting you out to areas you would never see in a local Portland cache. Most of my more enjoyable experiences have been on long hikes with great final destinations. Of course I have some favorites that include memorable moments with others, and the generally eccentric or different caches which tend to spice up the common park and find variety. Anyway - seems you like the great outdoors and a great view. All of these offer at least one of these. Most I've visited more recently. Hardy - Great location for a cache. Really gets the blood going. Went on a gorgeous October day and loved the peace and quiet. Radar Hill - Great views of the ocean and SW Washington/Oregon coast. Great at sunrise. Memaloose Island View - I love this end of the gorge, and this cache is in a quiet spot. Maybe you too will have a hawk buzz you and then land 10 feet away on a tree. Room with a View - Cool location. Old Fashioned - Steep lung busting hike but great views of Mt. Adams and surrounding area. Also an interesting "thing" at cache location.
  21. to get a hold of him, but my email was unanswered. Every one of his caches that I did was fantastic. He was one of the few guys that found some really interesting places. I like Oregone's Idea of placing a cache to remember his hides, and may have to do the same.
  22. I have many. See here for a list of my current top 10.
  23. quote: CAN'T REMEMBER WHO??! I'm hurt... I'm sorry. It's a wonder I remember half the things I do. And some of the things I do remember, I wonder why I'm remembering.
  24. A while back someone on the forums (can't remember who) had a bunch of temporary tattoos made of the geocaching logo. There were about an inch and a half square. Pretty cool for kids, and those who don't want the permanence of real tattoos. He mailed them out to whoever wanted a few, and I ended up with four. I just recently put two in a cache, and have kept a couple. Someday my son will be old enough to think that it's really cool.
  25. In general I would hate to see anyone hold onto my bugs for more than a month, but am less apt to stress out if there is communication from the holder of the bug. I've had bugs sit for months with people with no response and this drove me batty. I've also had people hang onto them for a season, but they kept in touch.
