  1. When I first started caching I was using a gps. Now I see that the Iphone has a great app. My wife has the iphone. I have a Blackberry storm 2 and wondering if Geocaching is planning on coming out with a blackberry app. If not is the one on the blackberry store worth the $19. This is the one I am talking about http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/142
  2. So as a matter of practice, anytime I see a coin shoudl I take it? then place it on my next cache? What if I go several weeks without going geocaching? Just trying to understand the etiquette.
  3. I see there are some very costly coins out there. Do people pay $15 $20 or more just to take the coins an put them in a cache? Isn't that like just throwing away the $$. Sorry I hope I am not offending anyone? Or do people buy the coins to just collect and never place them in a cache?
  4. Thanks for the advice on the coins just orderd 4 slugs.
  5. Sorry I don't understand... what do you men drill a hole and put a sheet in?
  6. I am somewhat new to Geocaching. We found a total of 3. Correct me if I am wrong but the way I understand Geocoins is a coin that I can place in a cache and I can track it to see where it travels to. Here are my questions... I see they are very expensive. I have also looked online and see a lot of them are from 2006 or so it seems. What I am looking to do is to purchase about 5 coins that I can leave in caches. I do not want to pay 10 or 15 for a coin I will never see again. Just seems like a lot of money to me. I don't have too much of a preferance as to what they look like but I guess being that I am from NY maybe that would be nice. Also, what is to stop someone from taking my coin from a cache and either keeping it or worse selling it on ebay? Can you tell me when I can get cheap coins I can put out there?
  7. You don't have to load maps into the GPSr for it to know where you are, it'll figure that out anyways. The best way to figure out what caches are the closest to you would be to create a Pocket Query for each location and load them to the GPSr, either as GPX file or using POI loader. Can you explain this in more detail? What is a pcoket Query. What is GPX or POI Loader?
  8. Next month my family and I are taking a cruise to bermuda. A few question. I have the etrex HC. Do i need to load in maps or anything so it know I am in bermuda? Is there any way I can identify caches that are near where the boat docks. Or caches that are safe in the area and easy to get to.
  9. Last weekend I did my second cache upstate NY. My problem is many of the descriptions don't tell you where to park your car. I do not have turn by turn in my portable GPS and my car GPS does not accept coordinated. How do I find out how to get close to the cache before I go on foot?
  10. What is the GPX exchange file used for?
  11. What is the purpose of the encryption section of the cache listing. I am especially confused because I can easily hit the decode button and read the code. Can someone please explain this to me?
  12. Why does many site listings have a code with a decryption button?
