  1. Someone said they used a breath strip container as a cache. How? The guidelines say that the cache must contain a log. Do you put a code or something inside these containers so finders need to email you with the code in order to log their find? The smallest one I've ever seen was a breath mint container with a small piece of paper folded up inside as a log. Just curious. It seems like a neat idea.

  2. I think I've decided against traveling GeoCoins. I'm going to buy some for souvenirs only. I currently have three TBs right now. One has gone missing as the cache it was in was stolen. Another is floating around in Washington state and is traveling nicely. The third is in the hands of a cacher and has been for over two months. You're right about them being desirable and ending up in a collection. -BK

  3. I was a FTF on a new cache but the person who found it AFTER me logged into her computer first and put herself down as a FTF! I know she was after me because I saw her!!! So not only do you have to be the FTF, you have to have your portable wireless laptop with you so you can beat them at login! Hee hee! -BK

  4. I carry a large ziplock bag full of trade items with me. I usually always trade multiple items and leave much more than I take. I obtain a lot of my items at trade shows and conventions so I have loads of stuff to trade, especially stuff that little kids would want! -BK

  5. If the cache site is close to my car, I will take it there and make my trades and do my log. I always take it away from the site so that even if someone sees me, they still won't know where the cache is hidden. I've run across cachers before who were crouched right by the site with the goods strewn all over the place. That sort of ruins the thrill of the hunt for me.-BK

  6. I keep everything in large clear shoebox labeled "Geocache Treasures". l love going through them every now and then and it brings back fond memories of the cache I got them from. I have my own items that I either buy or pick up at conventions for trade. -BK

  7. I consider junk to be a broken item, an empty plastic bag or a packet of McDonald's salt. I leave things like pins or keychains or 99 cent store items. However, I love signature items such as frogs or little dinosaurs and the like because it is a personal calling card of that visitor. Sometimes I just leave a trinket and take nothing. If I have nothing on me to trade, I'll leave money. I just go for the fun of it but having a nice trinket and trading are part of the fun too. :D

  8. I attend the annual international comic convention that we have here in San Diego and get tons of free pins, toys, stickers and the like. I've been trading these as well as stocking my own caches with them. Some items are collectibles that can be sold on ebay if the finder so wishes and some items are just for kids or fun. I had one cache that was nothing but 99 cent jewelry and people with little girls loved it. Just go for anything except food and weapons and have fun!

  9. I took the stuff that people left in my own cache out because it was a memento from the trader. Then I refilled the cache with my own swag for new visitors. In a way I'm glad I did this because someone thoughtlessly stole my cache. I was really upset because I really wanted the logbook and they probably just chucked it after taking the swag out. Now the stuff I collected from visitors is the only thing I have to remember them by. :D

  10. Definitely watch where you're going and dress appropriately for the terrain. I keep a variety of footwear and clothing in the back of my truck for such occasions. Where I live, caching terrain can vary from swimming to hiking. I've been pretty scratched up on occasion because I wore shorts on a hike and almost broke my ankle in a gopher hole. Carry a stick or hiking staff with you and plenty of bug-off. Don't blame you for being tick-phobic. I don't like them either! -BK

  11. So far I've recovered $3.75. Most of the coins were dimes and quarters but I was lucky enough to find a gold dollar and a 50 cent piece once. Of course, what I leave is always more than the value of the coin. I love to see nice swag in caches and stock my own with nice items for others to find. I love the hunt but the trading is very fun too. -BK :(

  12. Hee hee! Like the definition for 'swag'! Tell it to the pirates! Anyway, my new cache was a great success. I alternated between leaving tiny charms such as gold footballs, hardhats, etc and toe rings and anklebracelets. I personally love when someone leaves a signature item like a rubber frog or gecko. Some sweet person left a silver necklace for me because it was my first cache. I mostly enjoy reading the log entries though. I love hearing from people! -BK

  13. I like the dollar store idea! It's cheap, convenient and you can get loads of nice trinkets for trading. I also collect pins, buttons and toys from the annual comic convention and trade those. I'm in it mostly for the hunt and the opportunity to photograph different caches and new places that I've never been to before, however, I must say that I also love trading little things. I think it's a chick thing??? :( -BK

  14. If the logbook is too wet to write in I will usually take a digital photo of the cache to post with my login as a record of my find. Then I will email the owner of the cache and let them know about their logbook. If I live close to the vicinity of the cache, I will replace it for them. Personally, I love looking through the logbooks to see what people say. Some people will sign the log and not post on the site. -BK

  15. I realize that in geocaching, the hunt is the biggest part of the fun but some people, like me, also like trading toys and trinkets. What really bugs me is that I see more and more caches that are full of junk. The most recent finds were broken toy parts, a coffee stirrer from a fast food place and a doggie doo bag. Come on, folks! If you take something nice, leave something equally nice! I usually add swag to caches that seem sadly lacking. If everyone does this then the treasure hunt will be that much more enjoyable! Sorry, had to vent! -BK

  16. I've revisited old caches only if they looked like they've been exploited or the contents are full of junk. It's amazing how many people are thoughtless and leave trash in place of a trinket. I fill these caches with my own swag to make them nice for the next finder. I also replace old beat up logs with new ones. I like finding nice caches and would appreciate if someone did this with my own caches. If I take something, whatever I leave is always better or at least even. -BK
