  1. Yes, I would be willing to do that if you would like.
  2. This is one of the reasons why I kind of like the map change. I find it pretty cool having trails you entered show up on a map everyone can see.
  3. That's very good to hear, as many people don't like their customer service.
  4. I think I just go with map, compass, and GSAK.... don't really want to hold our group up if a GPS is discovered. We're staying on the Varadero Peninsula as well, not at that resort though, somewhere else.
  5. This website provides free garmin maps in an installer file format which will load automatically into MapSource. There are programmes available (the name escapes me at the moment) that will load .IMG map files into MapSource as well. When your select the maps you want from this website, and click "Build My Map", the final email you get will have many different download options. One of which is a gmapsupp.img file. With that, you can simply copy it onto an SD card(assuming there isn't already a map on it) and be ready to go as soon as you turn the unit on.
  6. Arctikkat, did you bring a GPS down while you were there? We're leaving next week...
  7. What kind of maps are you looking for? If you want a Topo map, I'd go for the Ibycus Topo. If you want just the streets, go for the OSM map(same as on gc.com)
  8. Never heard of the app you mention, but I have heard good reviews about the ones The Frosties posted. What the Galaxy Ace like for caching so far? I'm looking to get a new phone soon...
  9. We`re going to Cuba in 2 weeks. When will you be there? Don`t plan on losing my GPS, so I`m sticking to map and compass.
  10. Only had a chance to find 1 today, after school and work. That's all I had time for, but I'm glad the calendar day is now filled in!
  11. If the maps are that bad, go on the OSM website and edit the map yourself. That's what I did, and our area looks perfectly fine with the new maps.
  12. Maybe we shouldn't compare it to that type of pricing..... All I want is to do keep paying the same amount for the same services, and not Google maps. People who want the old maps can pay extra for it, and people who have easily adjusted to the new ones don't have to.
  13. Premium memberships could have add-ons (similar to data and unlimited texting in phones) where a Premium Member could have the option (for, say 5$ extra) to use the Google Maps. And only people who want to pay the extra to use it, get to use it.
  14. Well, how nice for you. But since you have three times as many forum posts as found geocaches, you have a different priority for how to use this hobby than I do. I personally enjoy finding caches a lot more than hanging around forums. Who cares how many forum posts and found caches anyone has, they're just numbers. Anyway, back on topic... I do not think it is necessary to have a new level of memberships just because of these so called silly maps, I like them. They have more detail and can be edited by anyone, which I think is great. If you don't like them, get a greasemonkey script, or use another mapping program.
  15. Totally agree with this. If people want the maps to improve, then it's up to them to do so.
  16. I'm sort of wondering the same thing, and am also in a similar boat as Coldgears. Edit: (I'm wondering this)
  17. Caches that require SCUBA Gear usually have a symbol in the attributes. Edit... Here's a link that might be usefull: http://www.geocaching.com/divecaching/
  18. Make a bookmark list and then create a pocket query of that.
  19. I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but if you've been caching since 2006 and have over 1000 finds, shouldn't you know this already? The best answer would be pocket queries. I guess I'm just confused about why you're asking... I am sorry I asked. I always thought that cachers were a friendly and helpful group. I am sorry you feel that way, but please post again if you have another question. We are happy to help, again, sorry you didn't feel that way this time.
  20. I read a book recently that said something like: "With WAAS enabled, GPS's are accurate to within 3meters 95% of the time(in optimal conditions)"
  21. What always helps me on big caching trips is a printed out map with some, or all of the caches on there. Do you know the trails in the park? If you don't you might be able to find some on the internet. What I usually do if I don't know the trails is find one on the internet, then, using reference points(such as roads, lakes) I match it to Google Earth as an image overlay. From there I use the GE Cache viewer to see the caches and to see on what trails they're on, and sometimes print it. Hope this helps!
  22. I'll +1 that eTrex 30, looks about right for your needs although it's a bit above your pricepoint.
  23. Did you calibrate the compass? (I don't know if you can, but check) Remember, this is a phone most of all, not a magnetic navigational device.
  24. 1.If you go with a Garmin GPS, there is this free map available: OSM 2.The biggest screen I can think of is on the Garmin Montana, although they are quite expensive. 4. Look for the paperless option. Hope this sort of helps!
