I'm leaving on a multiple thousand Km cycling trip on the 1st of July, joining my dad who is currently doing a cross-Canada journey. I'm planning on bringing my GPS along, of course, to track our route as well as find some caches in the different provinces. What suggestions would other forum users have for battery life and which batteries to use? I was thinking of bring 6 AA rechargeables to power my Dakota20, as well as a charger that can charge 4 batteries at a time. How well would this work? Suggestions? I'm trying to pack light too, so I didn't think Alkaline AA's would be a very good option.

Go to the logs page (this one) and click the small pencil icon. That will allow you to edit your log so you can change the log type.

Which Garmin for a non-techy
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to stew sleuth's topic in GPS technology and devices
I'd go for the Oregon if you can get it for the right price. It should be pretty similar to the Dakota you're already used to using, plus it has a larger screen and a few more features. -
Going to buy a new Oregon ... which one?

I'm thinking the same thing as you right now.... -
Go to the geocache listing in question, click "Log you visit", "Post Reviewer Note" should be one of the options in the log type pull down menu. Is that option there?

GC codes are used to identify individual geocaches, each cache has its own GC code. http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=221

map surveyor coordinates convert
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to zoomieviper's topic in GPS technology and devices
Those appear to be Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates. I usually convert them using this site: http://www.rcn.montana.edu/resources/tools/coordinates.aspx -
Memory card for Garmin Oreogon 550
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to torkel72's topic in GPS technology and devices
You shouldn't have any problems with it. The minimum you need for Bluechart is a 4GB card (link). Shouldn't matter what class you use, only difference between the two is transfer speed (10 being highest) Make sure it's a micro sd card too. -

There is an "Add to Calendar" link already on event pages, just underneath the event name: -

I have a Dakota 20, but haven't experienced these problems, probably because I transfer all my caches using pocket queries. Try going to the GPX folder of the GPS, what do you see in that folder?

How do I get all my caches unique
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to Kpt. Davy Jones's topic in How do I...?
It means that you've logged a "found it" log on a specific cache more than once. (In this case, multiple caches have probably been logged more than once) GSAK will let you know which caches it is. -
Continue releasing country based souvenirs
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to NYPaddleCacher's topic in Website
What if the souvenirs were designed by community members? If you want one for a certain country, design it. -
(Suggestion) Add a "Remember Me" option
Mr. Wilson & a Mt. Goat replied to Two Retirees Caching In's topic in Website
Yep, there is a "Keep Me Signed In", which is about the equivalent. -
Refreshing the map usually clears this for me.

If they are well maintained, then there isn't really a reason why they can't be there. Where is the fun? -The fun/Challenge should be finding a cool place where there isn't a cache, whether or not it's in your neighborhood. Who regulates it? -Reviewers, but as long as it meets the guidelines, it's fine. The reviewers are usually people that don't live in the region they review, so it's most likely that the reviewer is not friends with the cacher.

Another interesting fact I found today at http://project-gc.com/Home/Overview Was it because of the weather?

Sitting in the airport right now, flight arrived at 3am, waiting for our next one at 6:50am. Had a great time in Cuba again, brought my Android phone, but didn't really need it for the cache we did. Cubacan was a great cache, go find it if you're in the area, well worth it! Not surprised they don't have a suvenir for the country. Groudspeak is Amercian and there are still plenty of other smaller countries/provinces/states without souvenirs too.

Changed my mind and decided I will bring my phone. Leaving dark and early tomorrow!
