Well, I hid my first cache the other day GC1VJ3F only to learn that there were once 2 other caches in the same area (within 20 feet of mine). I know I can produce a query of temporarily inactive caches, but is there a way to see an area's cache placement history so next time I can attempt to be original? I guess I'm basically asking if an additional option can be added to the query form to include Archived caches. JC

I was hoping Pofe would NOT archive a cache GC533C, but now I'm starting to wonder if it's time since the location isn't what might be called "pristine" and the CO hasn't checked in since September 10, 2005. Pofe are you out there?

I agree with you climbstuff and ethanbl. A couple of us took care of an ageing cache GC533C. haggaeus gave it some TLC and so did I. It really is worth it to keep the record going even if the CO is AWOL. It's also cool to watch how the Geo-community chips in to take care of things on behalf of others. It's still limping along in a "Needs maintenance" state even though it's in good shape for other cachers' adventures. (POFE can you take a look at it?) I do have to say though, Wild Thing 73 is right too. It's sad to say, but caches can run their course and have had a "good run" as Brian Snat likes to say. Sometimes a location needs a fresh idea and frees the area up to give other folks an oportunity to have there very own cache.

I see people who KNOW reviewers, not many actual reviewers here in this thread. I understand the need to hide, if they revealed what their Geocaching name people would be emailing them left and right. They need an ID like we need and INBOX. It sorts out the pestering emails about ones cache posting etc. I would still like to see the reviewers post a comment here, (They can keep their masks on).

So are you in my area? Maybe we could look for this one together as I've only got 1 BM find in my list you can see I'm a BM Newbie. A metal detector might make a good planned for expence.

So how does one go about logging it (When found) with the appropriate authority? AND would they say anything if you happened to be on private property?

Ok, you folks have given me new hope. I will be digging a bit (lots of broken glass and dirt. I'll tidy the place up a bit and see what turns up!

Since I'm a newbie, and haven't hidden a cache yet, the reviewers are somewhat of a mystery to me. I have emailed one but only got a couple of "form emails" back. I do understand the sacrifice they make for the community here, but it would be nice to see their human side.

I went looking for a benchmark while waiting for breakfast at The Cardinal Cafe in my town. LY0463 I looked all over, it looks like the South East Abutment may have been repaired perhaps causing the covering/destruction of this mark. Any guidence? If back in 1984 the USGS couldn't find it, would it be reasonable for me to find it?

I'm trying to get a bit more organized about my geocoin collecting. Can someone tell me if there is such a thing as a 2008 New Jersey Geocoin? I want to start a coin collection for my state. I have some beatiful ones from others states I'd be willing to trade, including 2006 Utah, 2006 Oklahoma.

Normally I open up and confess if the muggle doesn't look deranged. Once however my friend and I were on a footbridge on hands and knees looking for a cache, when we saw a mom and her boy come walking by. I sort of panicked and just kept looking for the micro ignoring them. As they passed their conversation went like this: Child: Mom, what are they doing? Mom pulling her son along: Don't worry about what they are doing just keep moving!

I have a TB, Sonny Sunshine He wants to see his friends at Disney World. My family and I are headed down there November 14th 2008! I will be taking some pictures with him while in the park. The problem is, I will only be staying in the park (not renting a car to go geocaching), so I will be forced to bring Sonny (Tigger) back up to New Jersey and place him in a cache 1500 miles from where he wants to be! Would anyone be up to meeting us at a Virtual Cache in the park at an appointed time to take Sonny to a cache in Florida? It would make for an interesting log entry, no?

Well now THERE's a good question. Geocaching has taken away my kayaking time. This may sound corney but are there coords for a put-in?

I'm not afraid to expose my ignorance Questions: Parking by the lake is pretty sparse, what other parking will be available for Saturday Only Cachers? Rain or shine event?

Thanks so much for the offer, I sent the TB to Cosmic Mudkips with the approval of the owner. I picked up another one, Sunny Sunshine but we renewed our desire to go to DISNEY WORLD!!! So I will bring the new one down with me to take some pics, then its back up to NJ. UNLESS someone would be able to meet us at the park, then they could "grab" it from me and put it in a nearby cache. We are staying in the park November 14th and leaving November 23rd.

Thanks for all the great counsel! A light went on in my head, AH "PUBLIC LANDS"! Ok, For now I think I'm ready to go. I will probably be putting my first cache in a park near my house so I can keep an eye on it. I will be piggy backing on some other CO's placments (keeping the over 500' rule intact). I doubt I will have any trouble initially until I get inspired to create more challenging ones that may actually need permission.

I've been to some intersting cache locations, (though still a newbie), some of them pretty normal, some of them, well, really odd. How does one get permission to put a micro on a stop sign? And how about a on No Parking sign or under the shroud of a lamp post at the local super market? Also, I've read and re-read how to hide a cache, but how does one get in touch with the "land manager"? What do you say when you speak to them? "Hi, my name is Joe and I'm a geocacher, I'd like to hide an ammo can with some goodies in it at one of your parks, will that be ok?" I love giving the Geo-gospel to folks, but talking to the authorities about my intentions sounds like a real cold call. That being said, I have faith there is a simple answer for the fact that there are over 600,000 geocaches all over the world! BTW, I love saying that to people who are interested in hearing more about it!

I'll be going with my wife and lil cacher. I'm really looking foward to meeting everyone. I've seen so many names, not many faces.
