  1. Yes, I am old school, and you are doing it right. I load my caches (and even some extras!) to my GPS -- I use GSAK. I enjoy my cache outing. Good idea to take notes along the way. I log them all when I get home, using thewebsite on a computer with a keyboard so I can write nice logs and tell about my adventure.
  2. I think the have the sciences backwards ... Rocket science: 50 points Geology: 100 points Environmental science: 200 points Futurology: 300 points Rocket science is a lot harder than geology or environmental science. And I don't even think futurology is a science.
  3. I feel like I cant always remember the date -- I might put the wrong date when I am in the field. But I always date my online logs correctly. I try to log on the same day, so the computer does it for me. If I get a bit delayed, I make sure to put the correct date for the entry (sometimes I have to correct it). I am a stickler for logging in the correct order and with the correct date online. As for streaks, I got to 80, and it broke. Not planning on attempting another one. And Covid has made things even worse ... I think my slump may have grown from it.
  4. @allardjd -- here is small world. I have cache hides here hundreds of miles away from you, and yet you are credited with the containers. All through caching connections.
  5. Depends on where you are, your level of 'lockdown', and your level of risk. Our parks were never closed, we were encouraged to get exercise. So to me geocaching was fine during lockdown. Just don't do it in a group.
  6. Follow up tip -- if you are not the FTF, you can follow the tracks of those who have gone before.
  7. The geocaching.com map doesn't do this, but project-gc.com has tools that can help you with county challenges, including maps and selecting needed caches.
  8. I bought the tiny pen and tiny tweezers for a swiss army knife, and I found a tiny bit of space in the battery compartment of my GPS where I store them. I hope not to use them, but I should have a pen now if I need it.
  9. Correcting the date may not trigger it. You may need to delete your log, and relog it for the correct day.
  10. Having just had a lovely earthcaching week finding several natural arches, my new goal is to find more natural bridges and arches -- with caches and earthcaches at them, of course.
  11. multiple puzzles (bogus coordinates), events, earthcaches, and even a regular can all have the same posted coordinates. I have often found multiple caches at the same location on the map, or very similar locations. The icons do not have to follow the spacing guidelines, only physical stages of physical caches.
  12. If you want those notifications, you need to be a paying member of project-gc.com (different than geocaching.com); and you need to sign up to receive those notifications. Just for clarification. So yes, some people are paying and signed up and receive such notifications.
  13. 3 seconds? I really didnt know that. Full stop yes, but not 3 seconds.
  14. Looks like I found 25 caches since this promotion started, and that got me all of the souvenirs. I didn't really go out of my way to figure out how to find which souvenir, they just happened in the course of my caching.
  15. So the screws would be my ender right there -- I dont think you should ever need to unscrew something. Plus the guidelines, and the muggle factor -- I would have ended up with a DNF at that one.
  16. Since the attribute was just added and the PT owner has to update each pages attribute, it might take time before they are updated (or they may never be). I found the first of a PT in the desert -- but since I was not out to do a PT that day, I just did the one, without doing the rest.
  17. Well, you take the high road, and I'll take the low road, And I'll be to the cache before ye But me and my true love will surely meet again on the bonnie bonnie banks of ground zero.
  18. Chill -- it is a bit of fun -- a set of caches with a fun story. They may be all over the world. But they have local owners. I'm sure the local caretakers have 'their' local cache on watch, and can respond to any maintenance needs. Additionally, it is a matter of record with the reviewers as well, so if there are any issues that require reviewer intervention, then the local cache owner can be contacted as any other cache. They are there for anyone to find, and if they are not to your liking, then you don't have to find them -- just like any other cache. It is not that hard to find an active player in any area -- look at a few caches, find a common name. Look at the caches of that player. See what they have and how they are rated. No reviewer inside information is required.
  19. I also create PQs, and then preview them to see the caches that are selected. This can be done immediately and directly on the computer, without actually creating a file that needs downloaded.
  20. A list, by whatever criteria you choose. I use it as a way to filter for particular sets of attributes. Maybe you want to find all the high terrain caches near you. Or dates. etc.
  21. The other problem that Garmin would face is the distribution of a firmware change. Many folks dont update their devices, some dont even know how.
  22. I dont see any additional model information. eTrex Vista. Hiker companion.
  23. This one is old, I used to use it; as far as I know it still works although it has been in the closet for a while. Uses AA batteries. Unit, packaging, cable for downloading (although you may need an adapter part for your computer), case. Black and white screen. I would sell it for $15, just to basically cover shipping.
  24. Yes, that was the Audit Log, and it has been discontinued.
