  1. I received my mission, I will try to post a picture later. Thanks! My mission recipient got theirs too, so I am all set now!
  2. Thank you Fuzziebear3 for the very sweet Easter Mission Woohoo! I am glad you finally got it
  3. I'm GPS all the way. I haven't had much success with the phone, and actually only use it for WhereIGos since my GSP cannot do them. I also have my GDAK database on the phone if I need to refer to it, but all of that information is already on the GPS anyway.
  4. While it might (or might not) be easy to code an exception list, is it really a good solution? It would lead to more appeals and more work as to why this cache or that cache should or should not be on the exception list, and someone has to then maintain the list. Right now, these are the possible exceptions I can name off the top of my head: Brass Caps and YOSM Traveling caches Events that are recycled Monthly challenge type caches that can be achieved multiple times
  5. You can upload your images directly to your cache page on geocaching.com, rather than using a third party site. After you upload an image, you can right-click it to get the url if you need to include it in the description.
  6. A little late getting it sent out, but it is now on its way. Mission 1: Email sent: 3/13/2017 Name received: 3/20/2017 Mission sent: 4/12/2017 Mission received: Sent mission received:
  7. This is of course speculation, as that is really all we have here. To me, the issue that needs to be addressed and is actually the reason for the change is the duplicate logging issue, and that issue seems more common with the apps and more frequent lately. Whether due to pressing Submit multiple times, or timeout and automatic resubmission, the result is duplicate logs on the cache listings. I think the solution is mishandled though. It is not so much a matter than a cache shouldn't have multiple found logs for a given account. While rare, there are several examples that do make some sense, such as those brought up in this thread. A better implementation would be to 'not allow multiple found logs with the exact same text'. This way, it could prevent the bug where duplicate logs are posted, but still allow multiple logs if desired, as long as they were each written individually. (Oh, and you can't multiple log with just always TFTC, but I don't think that is really the issue).
  8. Lots of states have a county challenge, or other statistics such as find a cache in XXX counties.
  9. Search for size Regular or greater. Those are the ones that can contain travel bugs
  10. I would love a way to download all the information, but I don't know there is one. I run a travel bug race and I have to page through all the information and figure out the points for each racer.
  11. Welcome! You did the correct thing by signing the log, and leaving the cache where it was, and also swapping with the goodies. The intention is not to move the cache, but just to find it and sign it as you have done. I would normally then tell you to log it online, but i see that it is a premium member only cache. Here is the link to the cache page: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC5V6P7_take-a-walk
  12. Not to mention the fact that we would need an appeals committee to look into CHS scores, and suggest ways to improve one's score just to adopt/place a cache. Not a fan. The system works just fine. If there are bad caches near you, ask for them to be archived. If a cache is up for adoption and you want it, then adopt it. If no one adopts it, then it will get archived. If you adopt one, it becomes yours [you are now the responsible owner] and you should treat it that way. It probably needs a maintenance check to get things started. The only parts of this thread that I can be in agreement with are that we might have a reviewer action on an adoption, and encourage a maintenance check on an adoption. I don't like any of this automated scoring and actions.
  13. The cache might be missing from the box ... or maybe you just didn't find it. It is particularly hard to tell. Log a DNF and contact the cache owner and see exactly what is hidden and where. Remember, whatever is hidden could be very tiny (about the size of a fingernail) or it could be very well camouflaged. Additionally, since one can figure that many people interact with the box weekly, it could be missing, especially if it is at all visible.

  15. Finally received my newsletter, and it is absolutely useless. I always liked the list of recent geocaches, this is now gone. After several clicks I get to the 1000's of geocaches near me. Not useful at all. I also liked the list of nearby upcoming events (although I still had an issue with the algorithm). On that one, after several clicks I got a list of events for the city where my IP goes through, which is not the same as the city I am in. Since I do have home coordinates that work for the geocaches, you would think it would use the same ones, but no. Please go back to having content in the newsletter, not just links to the search results, which are not even correct.
  16. I would like to join this mission -- I had fun on the Christmas one, and have been waiting for this one! Mission 1: Email sent: 3/13/2017 Name received: Mission sent: Mission received: Sent mission received:
  17. You can certainly try, but chances are that if you didn't see it while you were there, then it is unlikely that you will see it in your picture either. Remember, whatever you are looking for may be cleverly concealed, or may be very small. Did you look -under- the bench, -inside- that hole, etc.
  18. I see this as more of a sliding scale than simple on/off switches. Some things will add a benenficial score and the health rating will increase. Other things will add a detrimental score and the health rating will decrease. The health rating can wobble up and down constantly without triggering any response - so long as it stays above any pre-determined thresholds which have been selected as points at which some action must take place. We dont know the algorithm. I would think it is a bit complex, and it can be tweaked. Generally, I would think that an OM would reset it to a 'neutral to good' score at that point. Then we can see what happens after that, finds, or more DNFs, or another NM/NA.
  19. If it should not be ignored, then in many cases archival (by the cache owner) is the only option. It certainly cannot be avoided that the algorithm is inaccurate at times. It does not make sense however to formulate the e-mail in a way that does not mention all options that are ok for Groundspeak. It's like either "eat the salad or leave the event" while they also would accept people not eating the salad if they explained that they are not allowed to eat salad out of medical reasons. It's an email. Ignoring it is always an option. Other things are options too. They don't all have to be enumerated. If a store indicates an item is on sale at a great price, do you have to go out and buy it at the store, and right now? Maybe you think about it and buy it online somewhere else instead? Maybe you decide it is a good price, but you don't want it now and will wait instead? Maybe you are reminded of some similar item and go buy that instead? Maybe you are busy and don't get out to get it right now anyway? There are always many other options.
  20. Geocoins found in caches are exactly like TBs, they should be logged and moved along to the next cache. They are out to travel too.
  21. Non-verified member? No email address provided? Right, message center then.
  22. They are new. Send them a nice welcoming email mentioning that you saw their log and that they were new. Invite them to attend the next event. Then you can mention that it's always nice to read a longer log that gives a little more detail on their adventure. I bet they don't even know that anyone sees whatever they write.
  23. I agree! (geocat_ and I are in the same area) We also work with the parks, and the parks work with us -- we do CITOs and education, they allow caches and events
  24. Just got the kindle version today, and plan to read it soon. Thanks! Read and finished it while I was on vacation! A nice gripping story and page turner! TFTB!
  25. Or even just simply A+B+C+D+E+F=42 (which is of course the answer to everything ). Often simple a simple check sum is nearly useless. Was that supposed to be 9 + 13 + 5 or 11 + 12 + 4? Huh? If you've only got one value in error, it'll always detect it, and will only give a false positive with multiple errors if those errors exactly cancel out. If your guesses for A to F were completely random, the chance of a false positive is 1 in 55. I certainly wouldn't call that useless and it's a good deal better than nothing if there's no mobile data available in the field for a full-blown checker to be useful(often the case away from major towns and highways here). And I prefer the simplicity of just addition in the field. In the example above A/B+C = D-E/F I would wonder if they meant D-(E/F) or (D-E)/F. Not everyone is good at even simple math.
