  1. Just one of us. As much as I'd like to see Groundspeak implement this feature, I certainly don't expect them to do so. well, there's NO DOUBT that they're dragging their feet on the issue. why do you think that they'll never do it?
  2. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a democracy. Groundspeak is a private business, and they can do whatever they want with it. If they decide a feature isn't needed/worth the development time, that's their choice. If you don't like the way they do things, vote with your feet. Just so we know who we're speaking to..... are 'you' a part of the Groundspeak organization or are you just one of us ?

  5. You probably don't realize that Coldgears is our buddy. I'm pretty sure that he can take a ribbing from his friends. Not sure that ALL comments about those keyholders were good-natured teasing, but I can guarantee you that many of them were. you're right .... i didn't know he was your buddy. BUT ... in my defense, the only reason i jumped to my conclusion was because of a history of less than friendly behavior. with bullying 'in the news' so much lately, i'll always come to the defence of someone that i feel is being picked on. Yup, I do understand that you were doing what you felt was the right thing by speaking up. And even good-natured teasing can get carried away all too easily. Thanks

  7. WELL SAID !! this should be copied and pasted onto a LOT of threads around here. the most recent being the one where the whole gang of you showed up to belittle the poor guy that wanted to share his good news about a great deal on magnetic key holders. maybe we'll read in the news tomorrow that he's jumped off a bridge in shame. shame on you all. ... I think you may be taking things a little too seriously around here.... That always seems to be the excuse from this gang. do you think that the guy with the magnetic key holders thought all of your bullying comments were CUTE ?? it was no different than the punks on the school bus brutally attacking the innocent bus aide. do you think that the National News took this too seriously ?? or the college student that outed his gay roommate on a 'public forum' much like this one. the guy 'killed himself' by jumping off a bridge. did the national news take that one too seriously too ?? you guys should all appologise to that poor guy to hopefully prevent 'him' from jumping off a bridge. you've ALL been 'out of control' for WAY too long and it's WAY past time that TPTB reined you in BIG TIME. go play in the little playground that you've created for yourself (OFF TOPIC FORUMS), and STOP your bullying. if you've got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything.

  9. i "AM" saying it. DO NOT send geocoins out into the world. you'll only be disappointed.
  10. Here's some good reading: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=226563 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=226763 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=261196 There are people who at the very least insist they refuse to log a "proxy". I'm not naming names , but maybe they'll drop in for a chat anyway. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, and I don't care to talk them out of Proxy hate. My ONLY motive for pointing out the weird taboos, is to help people make a Trackable that stays in the game. If your choice is between TB or Geocoin Tracking Numbers, use the TB Tracking number. The fact remains that Geocoin Proxies aren't as suitable, regardless of how many people do log/move them.
  11. Yes, they both have "Tracking Numbers". Some Travel Bugs' numbers start with "TB". Each kind of Geocoin has a special icon. You could attach either a coin or TB to an object for travel (after drilling a hole in the coin for attachment), or make your own trackable using your Tracking Number, one trackable per number. There's a tradition or taboo among many Geocachers that a Geocoin Tracking Number must be only on the original coin (not on a copy "proxy" when the original is lost) -- this taboo doesn't seem to apply to replacement Travel Bugs. If you buy a bunch of Tracking Numbers from Groundspeak, they'll have a default icon (maybe the "gold coin icon"?). Travel bugs have the "barcode bug" icon that looks like the TB dogtag. Other than the above, they're the same. RE: There's a tradition or taboo among many Geocachers that a Geocoin Tracking Number must be only on the original coin (not on a copy "proxy" when the original is lost) -- this taboo doesn't seem to apply to replacement Travel Bugs. I'd like to hear more about this "tradition or taboo" And i hope some of the ANTI PROXY people come to chat.

    TB Piracy

The reasons run the gamut. It's everything from someone finding it by accident and not knowing the process, to a disgruntled veteran cacher beginning a Geocide. It's the cheap chain that breaks by merely placing it in a container. So many reasons for disappearance. I think the main issue is mistakes in logging -- if you can't track it, you can't know where it is, so you can't take action that might get it back into play. And, although stuffed animals do surprisingly well even in soaking wet caches, they're likely among the first things tossed out when they get moldy. if a trackable is not logged correctly, don't you think it usually gets corrected once it's 'found' in a cache again? it doesn't make sense to me not being logged correctly spells DOOM to a trackable.
  13. good job...i love seeing the missing trackables get backin the game.
  14. the quickest/best way to get it to Germany is to place it in a TB Hotel near an international airport. a cache along an interstate highway is also a possibility, because every trip to another country will involve a major airport and probably a drive along an Interstate to get to the airport.

    TB Piracy

BUT......doesn't it seem that the cute, plush-toys seem to disappear quicker and more often? and if so, WHY? they're usually a little large to end up 'misplaced'. i TOTALLY agree with Snoogan's TB longevity clinic, and if what he says is true, that the cute ones disappear quickest, then i've got to believe that a lot of these are GONE because people actually want to keep them.
  16. If they were my coins, i would be thrilled to see them get back in the game. i say "release them".
  17. Make a replacement for Peety with the same tracking number. It's just not right to not put him back in the race. you never know, he just may WIN !
  18. it's perfectly acceptable to make a new one. it should be missing for a year or longer before you do this though.
  19. In MY opinion there's nothing more you can do. It may magically re-appear one day, but if it doesn't,you should make a replacement for it. Release the replacement, then you can enjoy watching it travel again. It's advised that you wait an entire year before you do this though.
  20. OUCH ! but that visitor may not have retrieved your TB, so you did the right thing to get it moving again.
  21. Thanks fuzziebear3. Spread the Word
  22. where was your event? it's cool seeing these things traveling around.
  23. Thanks scrapcat I think they're pretty cool too. : )
