  1. Well, the caches are still in your gpx file ... I guess re-submit your pocket querie(s) and reload your Colorado. You are exactly right. I was just hoping it would not be this way. Thanks for the help.
  2. I cannot figure out how to dump the found caches off of my gps. I deleted the geocache visits file but the caches are still in the gps. What am I missing.
  3. They no longer show up under the descriptions. While viewing the descriptions you have to hit the left options button to view the logs separately.
  4. Overall I am very pleased with the update. I only have one issue with my unit. If I pan around with the cursor over the map and land on a cache and select it as a goto the unit has locked up. It will do this repeatedly with a couple of caches near here. I looked at the cache pages online and both pages have different colored fonts on the cache page. On the plus side, it will not lock up when going to the same caches in the list from the geocaching mode.
  5. I would hazard to guess three separate, but very solvable problems here: Case 1) Your software updates were not current prior to use. Battery life should not have been an issue. Case 2) Some of your geocaches have HTML code or certain .jpg files embedded in the description, causing your GPS unit to lock up. This is a known bug and (I assume) being fixed. Case 3) Something was messing with your compass. I've noticed that the Colorado is either rock steady on the compass page OR its picking up nearby magnetic fields caused by various things: Belt buckles are a big one nearby the GPS when you are trying to use it. There is a long laundry list of things that I have personally found that disrupt the compass. I would suggest that you place all magnetic sources in a pack and keep it at least 18" away from the GPS, especially when calibrating the unit after change of batteries. I suspect that you wasted a lot of time and gasoline returning these units when a simple software upgrade on the first unit would have fixed your problems. I updated software right from the get-go on every gps. That was not the problem. Putting three sets of batteries in the unit (1st one) in less than six hours is just not right! You might be right about the lock ups. But why would the unit work fine for about twelve hours and then start locking up once in a while at first and then lock up each and every time a short while later. And it didn't matter what cache I picked. It would just lock up instantaneously. Geocaching mode became impossible to use even with a different load of caches. I know about things creating havoc with the compass. Things were in my pack. No keys, camera, phone, nada near the gps. I've been using these things for many years. Long before I started caching. I know broken. I am now on my fourth unit and it seems to be stable. Once the clock was incorrect and it had a hard time finding itself but this has only happened once (fingers crossed). The only complaint I have is the same as a lot of others. Very poor battery life.
  6. Iv'e had three bad units... so far. Unit #1 went through batteries way to fast. It went back. Unit #2 worked well the first day out caching but on the second day it started hanging up while in the geocaching mode. By the end of the day I could not use the geo mode at all. I tried different gpx files but nothing seemed to work so it went back. Unit #3. I picked up a couple of days ago. I tested out the battery life that nite and it went for 7 1/2 hours of full backlight before it dropped down a level. This was WAY better than the previous units. I was stoked. I took it out caching after work yesterday only to be letdown yet again. The compass will not stay calibrated. It will hold for about ten minutes and then goes all wacky. I was out in the dark in an unfamiliar area trying to use a gps that didn't know which way to go. NOT GOOD! Unit #4- do I dare...
  7. Is there a way to change the font size for the descriptions in the geocaching mode? If not maybe that might be a nice option in the Colorado for those of us with aging eyes. I searched but could not find the answer. TIA
  8. Cool, I wonder if you had your setting on NiMH, and then when the screen dimmed, if you switched over to Alkaline, if it would come back to full brightness for a while longer. Of course, there is no advantage to this other than my curiosity. Until the next update, I'll probably just switch my setting to Alkaline (I use the Eneloop 2000s as well. Thank you Costco.) --Marky I wish I could squeeze that much out of my unit. 2 hours max of max light before it kicks down using the Alkaline setting.
  9. There are definitely people having issues with NiMH batteries in the Colorado but yours sounds a little more extreme than most. With new batteries you also have to run them through a dozen cycles or so before they hold a good charge. You might try with an older set or a set of alkalines to compare. As for the TZ changing I haven't heard that one yet. Are you changing profiles by any chance? I'm guessing the default TZ setting is Central (Garmin HQ). If you are switching profiles the settings will change for the TZ as you switch back and forth. GO$Rs Yep, that explains the TZ thing. I just didn't realize that it would have to be changed for each Profile. So I just put freshly charged NiMH batteries in and kicked the light to always on. Batteries are hlf dead in about an hour so far. It seems that the folks with the 300 are getting less battery life than those with the 400t according to posts here. If that's true then maybe I should return mine and upgrade. I do not want to carry a case full of batteries around with me.
  10. I picked up a Colorado 300 the other day and did the firmware upgrades but the thing goes thru batteries like there is no tomorrow. Less than 5 hours and the unit shuts down. And this with no backight and using new Hybrid batteries. Also the time changes to central time (I'm pacific) at random times. Anyone else seeing this behavior too?
  11. I was wondering if you ever found a solution to this problem. I have VantagePoint loaded on a laptop running Windows XP and the maps will not display on my machine either. Nope, never did get it to show the maps on that laptop. It did work on another Vist machine of mine and also my XP desktop.
  12. I don't know the max but i have multiple files of 300 each.
  13. Have you tried to calibrate your compass? If not that may be a fix. Mine has done the same and doing a Clear All Memory was the fix.
  14. Well, I installed this on my desktop running XP and it works as it should but I cannot get it to work on my laptop running Vista. I'm rarely home so it would be nice to have it on my laptop. Bummer.
  15. Thanks for the reply. I have zoomed down as far as it will go. No luck
  16. OK, I'm at a loss here. I have downloaded the VP without a hitch. I have it up and running. I can transfer maps, tracks, poi's etc, etc. Now the problem... I cannot see the maps. They are on the list. I have the maps check marked that I want to see. I have the GPS hooked up and recognized. I just cannot see the maps. I can hover my mouse over where I should see the map and the hightlightes come up showing the various poi's etc, just no map. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?? I am running Vista. Also... VP will not recognize the Crossover. Just my Explorist. I have not tried the MerriPlat yet. The main reason I was looking foward to the VP was to use with the Crossover.
  17. OK, it's been awhile but I think I did this: Put the setup disc into your drive but don't let it run. Instead open it or My Computer>go to the drive that holds the disc and right click on it. Now click open. Look for the file labeled "setup" and right click on it and hit "properties". On the very top of the new window hit "compatibility". Go down to "compatibility mode" and check mark it and use the drop down menu under it to highlight "Windows XP (service pack 2)" Now go back and double click that "setup" file. That should do it.
  18. Yes you can find caches with it. It comes with a POI File Editor that with convert gpx files to POI files. Then you load them onto your sd card (out of the gps). You are limited to the number of caches in each file. I'm not sure what the limit is, maybe about 500. Go into outdoor mode (topo map) and activate one of your cache files. On the street route side you can load lots more caches into internal memory using Magellan Tools. I don't know the limit there. I have over 1500 caches loaded right now in one file. But I use that for routing to the caches then I use my Explorist to find the cache. The one thing I don't like about the Crossover for caching is that when you get close to your cache or goto the unit will let you know your at your destination then quit searching. This is my first post hope it goes right. I too have purchased a crossover. After having my map330 gps which still works great I thought I would upgrade. The crossover does the job (better than my car navigation system) but cannot bulk load waypoint on the hiking portion. Talk to magellan and tech support was clueless. You mention loading one of my cache file but I find no place to do that only one waypoit at a time. There is a new software coming out called VantagePoint from magellan, maybe this is the fix. You can load files in upt format in bulk. I'm not sure of the limit but I have several files loaded with 300 caches each. You just have to load the files onto your sd while out of the unit. Once the card is loaded into the GPS you can activate the file you want. You have to choose import files from the options then pick the file you want to be active in the outdoor mode.

  20. I bought a swivel mount for the house (and jeep). Just set the 600 into the mount and it's hooked up. No messing around trying to screw the cord in. Easier to charge and upload to.
  21. If you have a card reader or one built into your pc I think I would upload that way and bypass the GPS.
  22. Further to this quote, I've identified the problem as to why Geocache Manager is not working on Windows Vista. I haven't yet identified the solution though. Hopefully I'll have the answer in the next few days if work isn't too busy. I look forward to hearing more about this... hopefully a fix Good luck Jason.
  23. My first 600 had problems getting a fix on any sats. I sent it in for repair and Magellan sent me a brand new unit. It's been a great GPS. The size is much smaller than my MerriPlat but the color screen makes it much easier to see. I like it. It seems to be very accurate and there is no lag like my Platinum has.
  24. You may have to make a new region and do it all over again. You can take your SD card out of the GPS and send the maps over using a reader too. Are you sure it's not in your GPS? Did you go to Active Map and look to see if it was there?
